Ok guys I've done a bit of searching around and haven't really been able to find anything that relates directly to these mods on an Rb20DET.

I've got 230 kW on 16 psi and running the following mods.

Full RB20DET rebuild with upgraded rods and bearings

FMIC

Full turbo back exhaust with performance cat

Greddy Dump Pipe

z32 AFM

Cold air intake

Splitfire coilpacks

550cc injectors

Nistune Chip (on stock ecu)

Garrett GT28R Turbo

Bosch 044

Exedy Super HD Clutch

Would Pon Cams and an exhaust cam gear be beneficial???

James

Not sure about Pon Cams as I've never used them on a RB20DET, but an exhaust cam gear would be beneficial if you're chasing more low down power, just retard the exhaust 2~4 degrees to your desired levels.

Have a search on the dyno results, might give you more insight.

I'm guessing pon cams would further enhance the gains of an exhaust cam gear. Cheers bro

TBH, when I had pon cams on my car, I didn't bother with cam gears.. many have said Pon Cams are perfected, no need to dial them in. One or the other, not both... *waits for flaming*

Better just browing the dyno results to give you a better idea, remember top numbers mean sht when you've got a total lag monster.

with my Pon cams, in my 26, we left the exhaust cam set on 0. and did some miror adjustment to the intake side, as it gave me more response, playing with the exhaust side just made it real bogy down low.

gained mid range, and topend... did lose low end response, like under 4k it dosnet really see any positive pressure. it was only on 18psi, could have made abit more power but i was out of injectors.... we prob could have wipd it with more timing but i wanted it safe for trackdays/drags...

IMO it's a lot of money for not a lot of gain.

The only real place to spend money is on a bigger turbo and chase more power.

"Roy (troy)" put in some cams into his TD06/RB20 set up, and lost response, which i guess is the issue with most RB20's.

He went back to factory cams.

Alternatively man, if I didn't want to chase power and was after drive and feel, would it still be a bad move?

Well define drive and feel?

If you want the RB20 to have anything before it gets up onto peak boost, then IMO its a bad choice.

How often do you drive around foot to the floor? No often.

Yeah I adopt the give it a squirt every now and then. Most of the time cruising off boost with regular rolling boosts to the speed limit.

Drive & Feel: Responsive, direct, least lag possible, nice spread of power....and I will add...that pleasing lumpy nature of the engine note with aftermarket cams.

Please advise if I'm being a tosser lol

    • Yes I can see how that would put you off HFM, especially with the price of good quality brake fluid. From what I understand it as you say the BM50 is the standard BMC for a R32 GTR, I must admit I would like to go far a Genuine Nissan BM57, but lack of cash prevents that at present. With the price being so close between the genuine BM50 and BM57 a BM57 New it seems a better choice as you gain that 1/16 bore size with the BM57, I would be interested in how much difference you feel with the BM57 fitted. I am going to take SteveL's advice in the short term and see how much actually comes out of that proportioning valve vent and save up for the Genuine Nissan part. Thanks for clarifying the HFM failure
    • Thanks mate. I just got the post inspection 1/2 done from state roads when the starter motor packed up, either that or the car alarm system is having trouble.  OEM part number 23300-AA112.
    • Hi, I though I was coming to an end in finding a replacement starter motor for a rb25de neo. I came across a starter motor from Taarks and a message below stating: Direct fit. 11 Tooth count. All below part numbers have been superseded to 11 teeth. Can some body shed some light on going from 8 teeth to 11 teeth apart from 36-month / 25,000 km warranty for passenger vehicles to 12 Month Warranty. Compatible with the following Nissan part numbers: 23300-20P00 23300-20P01 23300-20P05 23300-20P10 23300-20P11 23300-AA111 23300-AA112 23300-AA300 23300-08U10 23300-08U11 23300-08U15
    • Low battery? Maybe check capacity? I know first-hand, on BMWs if your battery drops below 80% capacity, it starts causing strange issues.
    • 8.5 +37 = should fit rear, but I think it'll hit on front. What you want is low 30s/high 20's front, mid 30's rear. That 17" screenshot you posted looks good, I'd run it on my R32 (but that's long dead now). For tyre sizes, my rule of thumb is: 8': 235, 9": 255. But that's just my opinion. Nismo sizes: 18x8.5+35/18x9.5+38 is a good starting point.
