Hi Just Jap staff,

I have been wanting to buy carbon boot lid for my BNR34 for a while, but I have a few concerns/qualms about fitting a carbon trunk lid. I was wondering if you could clarify these as it would help me decide whether to take the plunge and just get one!

1, The overall fit of the carbon trunk in terms of panel gaps, alignment with rear quarter panels, OEM rear bumper; and ease of fitting OEM high mount stop light; lock barrel and latch.

2, Can OEM spoiler be mounted and if so would additional bracing needs to be custom fabricated to prevent spoiler being ripped off at high speeds? Or is the carbon trunk be strong enough to support the OEM spoiler by itself? How hard is it drill the holes for the OEM spoiler? (Can a panel shop handle such a job)

3, Is there any gurantee policy on the finish and fitment of the carbon trunk? That is what if one was ordered and the fitment ended up sub- standard?

The reason for all these questions is because I imported a carbon spoiler from Japan a while back and the fitment was so poor I ended up not installing it altogether, and to date it is still sitting in my garage collecting dust!

Love to hear from you abut this

Hi Matt,

Thanks for your query - Let me see if I can address your questions.

1. As with almost all Carbon Fibre aftermarket parts on the market, fit quality is generally good however if you are looking for absolute perfection, you may struggle with anything short of a $2000 dry carbon unit, and even then some adjustments are often required to obtain a spot on fit. I am aware of your car and know you are quite picky so what I will try and do is check with the boys if we have fitted one in house for a customer, and if so, see if I can track down some photos. That said, we have sold a number of them to customers and had no complaints. Normally I would say bring your car in and test fit one and see how you like it but short of you driving up from Melbourne that would be a tall order!

2. The R34 Coupe Carbon Bootlid is designed to be wingless, and therefore it does not have the provision for reattaching your factory wing. It may be possible to drill it yourself to suit, however we don't advise doing so as there is potential to damage the boot itself. Furthermore, we would also recommend that if you are attaching any large wing to a Carbon Boot, that bracing be added underneath for strength and piece of mind. As for weather or not a panel shop can handle such a task, im sure you can appreciate we can't answer that, and it really depends on which panel shop you went to. The Boot Lid itself is designed to accomodate your factory brake light and boot latch/release mechanism.

3. The finish on the Wet Carbon Boot Lid's is high gloss, so if you receive one and find a serious fault in the finish/scratch/s or damage, we will cover it under warranty.

I hope this clarifies - Please give me a call in the store direct if you would like to discuss further on (02) 9545 0532.

Cheers,

Steve

Regarding the carbon fibre parts.

Are the boot lids, doors, bonnets etc made from 100% carbon or is it a fibreglass structure skinned with carbon fibre material. Looking at the carbon doors for the R35 they appear to be 100% carbon hence the price whereas the doors for R33/R34 are much cheaper.

Thanks

Hi mate,

We stock a variety of both Wet and Dry Carbon products. All parts are Wet Carbon (Carbon with Fibreglass re-inforcement) unless otherwise stated or labelled as Dry Carbon.

At this stage the only doors we are stocking in Dry Carbon are R35, however we expect to be extending the range within the coming months.

Regards,

Steve

    • Gday gents, been having a issue for a little while now and have come for some advice. car is a r34 gt-four (awd na sedan), when taking tight corners such as car parks and roundabouts feels as if the diff is locked on both ends, have literally snapped 3 shafts and issues doing my head in. Car has 60k klm so mechanical failure in the diff is unlikely but possible, been to 2 very reputable shops near where I live and both have had no luck. What would be my process of trying to find the cause? not too interested in pulling apart transfer cases just to find nothing, have these cars come out with electronic BS that might cause this? not too mechanically inclined so any information will probably be passed on an expert thanks in advance
    • I realise that perhaps no one will in Japan will see this, but why not try anyway. What are you driving in Japan? I have a (sniff (;_;) ) 2018 Toyota Corolla Sports 1.2L Turbo 6MT. It has a class trailing 116PS and 190Nm power/torque... 😐 Why? Because back in 2018 there was only 1(?) manual transmission car available from Toyota which was the 86 (not including the Mark X GRMN 2015/2019), so when they released this one I had to support them by getting one in the hope that they would continue to release more manual models. As it turns out they released the Supra, Yaris, and GR Corolla all with manual transmissons after that. Mods are RSR Ti2000 Down springs, HKS panel filter, 18x8.5" Weds Sports SA-20R Face F with 215/40R18 Toyota Proxes Sport tyres. Eventually a full exhaust, boost controller sub-con, Blitz turbocharger and aero parts will be added before it gets replaced...
    • It looks proper factory fitted. It's exactly how I would do it. Well done 👍
