Hey everyone,

I'm running a set of -5s on my GTR. The place I bought them from talked me out of buying the HKS actuators saying they were a waste of money. Now I can't turn my boost up past around 16psi. My question is if I buy the HKS actuators will I be able to up the boost more. Looking for 25psi+

Cheers,

Jamil

The actuator is around 1bar give/take.

HKS one isn't magically better. It's probably the same as the Garrett one anyway.

If you are running just off the base actuator pressure, then you'll never make more than that... You need to increase it by whatever method you choose.

If you do have say, a boost controller, and you can't get more than 16psi, then that's the boost controller, not actuator problem. its probably installed/config incorrectly

Test difference in pressure drop before and after the cooler with boost controller engaged.

If no pressure difference present, means exhaust manifold pressure have forced its way out of the wastegate. You can get either a larger turbine housing, more cropped turbine wheel, or a stronger actuator.

The only actuator that seemed to work with boost controller for 25psi and hold 25psi applicaion is those large can ones

or build your own with 2x springs inside the actautor hat.

what kinda advice is that?

because he runs off the actuator, and doesn't get 25psi... he needs to back cut wheels or change housing? lol.

-5s will hold 25psi if they are set there.

running off supplied items, garrett or hks will only ever see 15-16psi, and hence he needs to mod the actuator, get a ebc, or bleed more air off. quite simple really.

My tuner managed to adjust the HKS actuator rod to hold 22psi, I wasn't running any form of boost controller/bleed valve.

Turbos was pair of GT-SS by the way.

    • Before I get to the test day, just to finish off the android head unit. This is a demo from car start up....the standard/host system takes a few seconds to boot (same as all v37) but Android comes up quickly. In this vid I'm using the delivered launcher but have set the default to Agami since which is easier to navigate when if use primarily 5 apps. You can see the host system still takes over when required eg putting it in reverse, and you can switch between Android and not by holding the back button 3 sec. It is pretty responsive (fast) but you can see I had to press harder than expected a couple of times.  I still have the phone connected to the stock system, and that also seamlessly takes over Android music playing. v37-android-demo.mp4 The bigger reason that I put this in though is so that I can use Ecutek directly on the head unit. That gives me a dash with logging (up to 20MB only), high and low value warnings on any parameter etc etc. I've run a USB cable from the Ecutek OBD dongle to a USB input on the unit, easy. v37-ecutek-demo.mp4   The unit did freeze on the launcher the other day, I think Agami was trying to verify the license when it didn't have a data connection...will monitor and report back if there are any other problems but so far I'm very happy with the upgrade.
    • Nah that is just crappy GPS mapping, I did have a small excursion (cold tyres, damp track, surprise!), will post up that when I get a chance.
    • So 10/10 times that code is coil packs? I mean if that's the case ill drop the $400USD or so to replace them. I didn't know these cars threw codes before the issue became an issue.
