My first Skyline was a 4 door R33 GTS and I purchased a Cusco oval type strut tower for the front. It was the only suspension/body modification and it was night and day in handling. My R33 GTST has both front and rear round type Cusco strut tower bars and I am happy with them, though it would be nice to have exotic titanium strut tower bars :woot:

I think the underbody is robust enough to not need bracing, but then some cars, such as the new Subaru WRXs are known to have weak underbody bracing. But then I don't have aftermarket underbody bracing so I cannot say about how effective they are, I might get a set if someone says they are worth it.

For suppliers, maybe check Nengun or Perfectrun.

Thanks. I'm not too sure on the stiffness of the R33. I'm quite suspect on it. The R34 was apparently 100% stiffer or some such, well that was the blurb when they released them.

I think I at least need the strut brace at the front. Wondering if an under-engine brace exists?

underbody brace wise the only one i know of is the one that braces between the caster rod brackets

difference.. yes very little and not as much as a strut brace

i remember reading the r34 website on the old nissan japan site, it has a reinforced C pillar, they also mentioned that the r34 GTT chassis brace design was based on the R33 GTR, and R34 GTR is stiffer again

its true that R34 GTT and S15 do feel stiffer than R33, especially on driveways

again R33 is so big inside so naturally it won't be as stiff as an R34

S15 and R34 GTR have all sorts of funny braces from factory like the spare wheel well brace, transmission tunnel brace and rear subframe brace, sometimes it really makes you wonder if they really do anything

never really checked out the GTT so i dont know what braces they've got

The tower bracing will definitely stiffen things up.

There are also these, there is a rear under brace going around as well.

The R33 GTR has a lot more bracing through out it than the R33 GTST.

In the boot/backseat (not talking about the rear brace that is factory on S2 GTST's) and underbody from memory.

I'll try to find pics.

EDIT: No luck finding pics of the damn things i'm talking about.

I've often thought about welding some additional support to the stock sheet metal link between the strut towers and the firewall. I would think making these 2 sections wider and thicker would help a lot.

No that is NOT my strut brace - I wish it was though !!!

yeah i looked into all of this fairly recently, most places set not to bother, i ended up replacing the suspension bushes through out and that made quite a difference even though the factory bushes were still in a reasonable condition!

not sure if thats much help, but no point spending hundreds on products that do very little!

    • After using a protractor for an actually accurate assessment of what is required,  and by NOT using my uncalibrated eyeball I worked out I need a 25° silicone bend from the TB ro the MAF, but, my choice was either a 30° or a 23° (23° is a weird spec), so I grabbed the 23° one from Raceworks I also grabbed 1mtr of 3" straight from Just Jap, I needed 350mm, but they only had 300mm, or 1mtr lengths....meh Also ordered a 1/2" hose bulkhead fitting from fleabay, this has a smoothish mushroom looking head (they are designed for below the water line of boats) that will fit inside the bend, the hose bit and threaded bit looks to long, but nothing that a hacksaw cannot fix if required, the hose will then just get jamed on the threaded bit up to the retaining nut Fingers crossed and the unsightly amount of hose clamps will be reduced down to 4 once all the parts arrive
    • Oil change does not trigger code 21. Code 21 is for coilpacks primary side connection. You can try to clear the code with a battery disconnect, hold down the brake pedal to drain capacitors through the brake lights with the ignition on for 10-15 seconds before you reconnect the battery. I have seen R35 coil conversion permanently cause this code with no ill effects so it might be the resistance it wants to see isn't quite right on one or more coilpacks. Could be inside the ECU, could be the harness, could be a coil. You can test it all if you want or just ignore until the car actually starts misfiring.
    • I forgot you have a Nistune ECU. Use Nistune to do all the tests I mentioned instead of faffing with 30+ year old electrical connectors. You can read MAF volts off that too, there are reference values in the service manual to tell you roughly what it should be in different conditions.
    • No. I think it might be the AFM. Hence the use of the terms "swaptronics", which implies the use of swapping out electronics for the purpose of diagnosis. It's about the only way to prove that a small/niggling/whatever problem with an AFM or a CAS or similar is actually caused by that AFM/CAS/whatever. A known good item swapped in that still gives the same problem is likely to be caused somewhere else. They're all the same. Spraying AFMs with cleaner is an each way bet between cleaning it and f**king it.
    • Oh wow! This might actually work amazingly. Do you know the ratio of the diff? I was told the only thing you need to make sure of is if the front & rear diff ratios are the same. Ours is a 4.083 Thanks!
