HI ALL,,,

I have a r33 with RB25, Power Fc with hand controller,

Up untill yesterdy all was fine, not had a prob before with it.. water temp would sit 78 - 80 once fully warned up after (about 5 minutes) and might creep up to 83 after few hours driving,Fine right? been like that for years

Right,

My cars been sitting in the pannelbeaters the last couple months, (front bumper damage and minor side pannel damage) the radiator didnt get touched atall in accident baring in mind, but they had to remove the rad to do work, when i went to the place yesterday car was running, they said it had been running a couple of minutes and i looked at Fc hand controller and Water said 60.... i then revesed straight out of the unit (20ft) got outta car. talked for honestly no more than two minutes, Got back in car and hand controller was reading 114c!! pannelbeater says nah that cant be right because the stock temp gauge is only reading just above halfway mark?

Please all! Am gratefull of all advice!!

CHEERS AGAIN

Let it cool Nd check the coolant level. If its ok leave the cap off open the air bleeder screw on the inlet manifold till coolant comes out then refit the bleeder screw and start the car, let it idle till it warms up with cap off and heater on.

This should remove any air that is still trapped in the cooling system.

If it still overheats get a new thermostat

in my experience, the stock temp gauge reaches half-way around 60-65C and will stay there till around 110C before rising - so it could be easily right.

+1 on bleeding the coolant system too.

You may have air in the sysyem, When the car is cool remove the radiator cap and start the car, let the car idle for a while(might take 5-10 minites), giving it a few revs here and there, watch your temp gauge, and add coolant as needed, also ensure you have some coolant in the overflow for when the car cools down so it doesnt suck air back in.

Might fix it.

+1

Basically from my experience the stock temperature gauge should always be reading just under 1/2 way for a normal operating engine at normal temperature.

If it gets to 1/2 mark then thats enough to throw a caution, anything over 1/2 means there are potential over heating issues with the engine.

I had my gauge read just over 1/2 way & when I pulled over the coolant was boiling in the reserver tank, even though according to the stock gauge it's no where near the H mark, had it checked & it turned out to be a worn Rad cap & thermostat.

    • The fancy pants red shock tower brace is finally incoming from MX5 Mania, getting it shipped from 'Merica has been a long and problematic process, and GWR, the 'Merican supplier will not ship directly to consumers outside of the US, Mania basically had to order a heap of them, the colour choice was silver, or red, and we all know anything red adds 5 killerwasps of dynotorques..... Whilst it does fit over a 2.5, and I've seen a few photos and videos of it being installed and fitting, google also says it might get real close to the FAB9 intake front runner, people in the US says it does fit with the FAB9 intake, except for one person who said it slightly touched.......so there is that.....LOL..... As it seems that I am the first in AU to have this combination of parts there's no local knowledge about fitment, so I'm just a willing guinea pig in this endeavour, I'll cross my fingers and toes and hope for the best In other news, I ordered stuff from China  on the same day I ordered the 23° silicone bend from Victoria, the stuff from China arrived a day ago, the 23° silicone bend is still travelling around Australia thanks to Australia Post, and "may" be here next week
    • Very good news...I contacted Racebox about it last night. My car is a 2016 so remains to be seen if it is compatible, requires a TCU swap, or is impossible.
    • What ECU are you running? This is probably the biggest question. If it's a PowerFC, I'd probably change the ECU and get something newer that will handle the injectors in a nicer way.
