I've 3 motors, all using brand new R33 GTR cranks & N1 pumps, as has just about everyone i know down here with a built 26. No issues.

For your set-up, which is really not over the top at all, don't get too caught up in spending coin all over the place.

If you want too, then fair enough, but its not required IMO.

of course. a 32 crank with a collar fitted = 33 crank. many people just buy the 33 crank as it's quite cheap and you get the larger oil pump drive flats AND a brand new crank (no chance of it being bent or worn). one is no better than the other. they both have the same size drive flats and should be around the same clearance between pump gear and the drive. but that depends entirely on the manufacturing tolerances of both the pump and the crank/collar.

what they are talking about is making a new collar (not yet on the market) that has smaller gap between the pump drive and the pump inner gear. the problem with that is I do not know to what tolerance the pump gears are made. if you make a collar to have a clearance of say .002 then what happens when the gears are only manufactured to a tolerance of .005? you would find some might still be a bit sloppy and some may be too tight. so you'd really need to be making the collar AND the inner gear together to be such a tight fit and have very high quality control or manufacturing tolerance to make it work. but if you are going to all that effort what you need to do is make a splined collar, and a splined inner gear (like a 2JZ pump). then sell a kit of collar and inner gear, or even collar inner and outer gear as a set. then you have no more problems.

personally going to the effort of basically matching collars to each pump is probably not worth it. they are talking about buying a reimax gearset, then tossing the inner gear, buying a new (matched) collar and inner gear (with the flat positions moved half a tooth - which is a good idea) and then fitting. it's a nice solution but would cost a shitload and still doesn't address the problem that you have 2 small flats driving the oil pump. yes the fit is tighter but it's still not half as good as a splined drive set-up.

if you really want to spend coin wait until someone has the spline drive set-up available.

Good post Baron!!! I didn't think that way nor do I know about toyota's system. I should have a read about these.

But whatever, I was hunting for an used r33 crankshaft.. here in NA, used crank go for like 500$. with that thread, I realise my crank with a 100$ collar will be as good as an used r33 crank and I have 400$ to play with the machine shop to machine my crank. I doubt it will cost 400$ for a polish and collar fitted. so I'm saving some coins on a set of ACL bearing for exemple.

Used though.

You'll find you end up spending coin/time on a used one to get it into decent state that you can reuse it.

I don't get you though mate. One second you are trying to save every cent you can... And in the next thread you start you are looking to bust $1,000 on unnecessary bits...

2 pieces of advice. don't buy a used crank if you already have a used 32 crank.

the reason is so often people buy a used crank only to find it not straight and is un-usable. and at $500 it's an expensive lesson.

if you have your 32 crank by all means use it with the collar. with a collar fitted there is no difference to the 33 crank. in fact depending on the material of the collar some would argue it's better than the factory machined oil pump drive on the 33 crank. use the money getting the crank drilled, cleaned and grubscrewed etc

but if it were me, I'd seriously consider buying a NEW r33 crank. if you have any contacts in USA with nissan parts you should be able to buy one fairly cheaply (somewhere between $1000 and $1500).

otherwise get your crank checked for straightness and journal wear first, if ok then continue with getting the collar fitted and the crank prepped.

yes the 2JZ type drive is the way to go if you want to spend serious money on a standard type oil pump system. unfortunately no one makes it yet but it won't be long...

it looks like so (this ones a 2JZGE pump but the drive is basically the same as GTE):

drive collar would be similar to this:

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
    • So, now all you need to do is connect the 2 or 3x 12v feeds into the unit to permanent 12v, ACC 12V and IGN 12V that you can find in the spot behind the stereo, and the earth, and then it will switch on with the car.
