Hi guys,

I'm looking to buy an r33 gtr, but i'm not sure why the blue plate is so faded?

See the image post-49206-0-97479300-1299751891_thumb.jpg

Does this look dodgy, how can i check?

Paint on that one is pretty bad, but at least those rivets used to attach the plate look the same as on my one, and the numbers don't look dodgy - not sure mate, make a call or inspect more R33's and see how their build plates look.

Thanks for all the feedback guys.

Luckily I can still read the numbers on the build plate so I'm going to do a VIC roads check for $24.

I just find it strange that the build plate is faded, it looks unnaturally faded when compared to the surroundings.

Also, Is it normal for the VIN number to be pop riveted near the passenger side strut tower?

Looks same as my one, even the aluminium plate with the 6T91 number looks the same, my one is rivetted near the front right headlight. I think that's how they used to do them when complianced - your is Sept 2000.

^^^like he said, cleaning can kill anything. and the white rivets that hold it in are not reusable, and generally a good sign that the plate hasnt been tampered with. although that is a strange spot for the VIN plate. but it is an old import i guess.

Mine is actually engraved into the strut tower. It's a compliance thing and nothing to worry about. By law they have to put the aus vin number (with 6U900 in it) somewhere in the engine bay. Some compliers will even just engrave it below the jap vin on the firewall but strut tower is very common

    • Unsolicited advice? Keep the engine as close to stock as you can. Nothing wrong with adding some boost and making a little more power, but given where you are, you really don't want to try to make it into a monster. I can't imagine the roads are up to it, and the lack of locla support when it grenades will be a ball ache. FWIW, If there is a dyno around that you can access, then brand new injectors are a good idea, which will lead you to (at least) putting a Nistune in it, which will allow you to put an R35 AFM on it, all of which will make it possible to make it much much nicer to drive and live with.
    • List all of your mods. It sounds like an aftermarket ECU hitting rev limiter. Like a valet mode, or a cold rpm limiter?
    • @Kapr Haha yeah thats the one. I missed that you had a built up engine, I wouldn't want to run it on there either then. It was good in my situation just to replace the original turbo on a stock engine. @MBS206Yep definitely not a replacement for anything name brand
    • You are selling this? I have never bought something from marketplace...i dont know if i trust that enough. And the price is little bit "too" good...
