Wanted to know if it worth while upgrading to a stock 27mm R33 gtr rear sway bar on my C35 laurel which i assumes carries the same bar stock as the R33gtst....I'll measure it to confirm but its visually much smaller than the gtr one.

I dont have access to whiteline or any other fancy brands so this is pretty much my only option so i just want to know what adv / disadv will i notice particularly if the car will still be predictable as its strictly for the road,... it also has a 1way mech. diff and 255rwkw, rwd obviously

For a rwd car, in general people change the front sway bar first to increase rear traction/decrease front traction. If you increase the size of the rear only, you will end up with probably better body roll control but also less drive/traction coming out of corners as you may start to lift the inside rear wheel giving much less mechanical grip available. It will also change the natural understeer tendency more towards oversteer first on limit in general.

So my guess is no? Unless you were chasing some specific handling behaviour or bug in which case you would be much better off with an adjustable sway bar.

Hi,

We are not sure wher you measured from but a GTR rear bar is not 27mm.

The usual upgrade there is that the GTR is solid VS the hollow rear but they are the same diameter from what we know of and no where near 27mm.

We have dealers and Suppliers all over the world so if you click dealers on top of the page of our website My link you will find one near you and we have a list of rear bars that will suite you well and you will easy have access to them. If not email us at Email me

Also if you look around there are many sponsored traders on here that sell Whiteline products you could purchase through

yeah i did the GTST to GTR sway bar upgrade on my 33 GTST.

Made it stiffer with less roll. Iv also got ciolovers in (8kgF, 6kgR) so i do find it harder to get the power down. To compensate i just threw on some sticky 275's. Best of both worlds now ;)

Hmmmm...

Yea man the R33 gtr rear is between 26.5 - 27mm......That has been confirmed a few times around here in various threads

The R32 is a little smaller and the R34 gtr is the smallest of the batch

What size solid bar will equal to a 27mm hollow?

now you are asking a very tricky and technical question that i think you are dreaming if you are 1-even going to find an answer. 2- find an answer that is correct as oppposed to speculative...

Otherwise, id say the bottom line is that these sway bars and this 'swap over mod' would have very little impact, especially when we usually are throwing all sorts of other things into the equation like coilovers (stiffness, damping, ride height), strut braces, engine dampers, different size rims and low profile tyres, different width tyres.

Se where im coming from?

We'll its been a wk since driving around with the gtr bar and there is a noticabe decrease in body roll and so far no negative results tractiion wise

I would have liked it a little stiffer tho........i think....

So if you can get your hands on a R33 gtr rear bar for small money and able to swap it out yourself id say its a very good upgrade

yeah its a good mod, especially if you can pick one up cheap. I got one for free when buying some suspension off a GTR :)

it is worth noting tho that there is only so much an stiffer sway bar can do. If you want it harder you are going to need to change those coilovers...

Yea man already got some tiens which were stiff as fu&k but i swapped out the springs with some jic ones and that eased up the ruggedness a lot ....its still firm tho and the damper setting is all the way down

I think i'll fiddle with the damper a little and see how that goes....dont want to compromise tractiion tho

so basically using a 33gtr hollow rear sway bar as an upgrade for r33 gtst is a bit dissapointing?

i wonder how it compares to the 22mm whiteline rear swaybar.

and what other aftermarket alternatives are there, besides whiteline?

If you can get your hands on Cusco sway bars, they're a quality piece of kit.

It's a steel bar.

If you could tell the difference between a Cusco and Whiteline item of the same diameter I'd be very bloody surprised and you'd be kidding yourself big-time!

There is nothing wrong with the Whiteline kit and if you are paying more $$$ for your metal bar it is simply for a brand name which is not worth a pinch of shit on the track or anywhere else in the real world.

what ever happened to selby sway bars? surely there are/were other brands.

The Selbys name was bought by Fulcrum, along with some intellectual property. A bunch of the old Selby's staff now work for Whiteline; I believe.

I also had some excellent work done by Todd Selby, of Signature Sway Bars. He made me 8 sets of beautiful custom NM35 Stagea Sway Bars. He mostly does low volume/ one off, custom stuff. Great guy, couldn't do enough to help.:worship:

If you like I can put you in touch with him; but I'm making an enquiry for you, regarding your PM on monday. I'll let you know what's what.

Springmakers will make custome swaybars if you give them the stocker for a pattern and tell them how thick you want the bar. In my city for about $300. Or you can get Japan sourced big name big ticket aftermarket stuff.

    • I'm thinking that this is such a small part of the problem that you could easily forego the vac pump and just achieve 90% of what you need, which is keeping the gate open when off boost. It's not as if there are not already techniques to keep a gate fully closed under boost. After all, you have boost. Just use a wastegate actuator that will allow you to apply the boost on the appropriate side, just like every external gate out there.
    • Heres another fitment photo. redrilled the pattern to 5x112, and threw my audi´s rims on. had to touch the upper control arms with grinder, because the "sharp corner" was sticking about 2-3mm on the tire path. i have the "fender lip" mostly cut off, otherwise these (too) would contact with it. 20x9.5 ET25 rear    265/30 20x8.5 ET20 front    255/30 they are temporary, and look too big for the chassis. searching for 19s to it.
    • From experience, it will come back to bite you haha.
    • Background: my BMW 225i hatchback (rebodied MINI/X1) came with 3x RE003 and 1x Goodyear Asymmetric something. The RE003 roared and slid around, the Goodyear side was quiet and grippy. Definitely my car was thrashed before it got sent to dealers. My brother also got RE003 all round on his old VA WRX STI, I wasn't impressed with them, car was loud so can't comment on noise. Anyway, Hankook stopped making/updating V12 Evo2. So bought S1 Evo3 runflats. Great daily duties tyre and not that harsh ride. Tyre reviews site/youtube rated them as best stopping in the rain and I believe them. Next set, Goodyear Asymmetric 5 non-RFT. It beat PS4 in tests and is like $100 cheaper, so put them on. Great tyre, more grip then S1 Evo3 but a tad noisier as expected, still rocking them. Next set I am looking to go runflats, probably the new Hankook Evo. Although the new Pirelli PZ5 did well in tyrereviews test. Or go Goodyear Asymmetric 6 which was top tyre last year. The V12 Evo2 on my gen5 Liberty GT wagon did great in cold condition (drove to snowy mountains for a day so my husky can feel his ancestor's roots). Super impressive performance for $120 each lol. Never skimp on tyres, brakes, suspension. There's old pics of my R31's crappy random brake pads bending in the caliper at Oran Park track day somewhere around here. Anyway, my 2 cents.
