Adam_RSX
Get a DR30 instead Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/35691-planning-to-get-an-import-r31/page/2/#findComment-737117 Share on other sites
boj01
yea i agree with adam! the dr30 is becoming a cult car in japan and is inevitably going up in price here in australia as well. they have been advertised in sydney for up to $12000. a very worthwhile car to own and you will turn a lot of heads as not many people know what they are! im not a huge fan of the NICS RB20DET and decided to go a different direction and purchase a dr30 with an FJ20DET in it. the SR20DET replaced these engines, but the FJ is such an internally strong motor. with few basic mods, 200rwkw can easily be achieved. parts are much of a problem for the R30 coupes because like any Nissan, parts are interchangeable the r31 would probably be easier to get parts for but there isnt much difference Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/35691-planning-to-get-an-import-r31/page/2/#findComment-744841 Share on other sites
Adam_RSX
No 'D' in FJ20ET. It predates the use of the D. They sound a lot better than SR's aswell The other good thing about the DR is that all the front panels inc guards are interchangable with Aussie MR30's, which are cheap enough to buy a whole car now just to get the spare panels Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/35691-planning-to-get-an-import-r31/page/2/#findComment-744875 Share on other sites

Adam_RSX
GTS-X or GTS... no GTS-t You'd be mad to pay either of those prices... GTS 2 doors and GTS-X's seem to sell for around 8 now... and DR30's are either really cheap or really expensive, but I can only see them rising.. they shouldnt fall any more Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/35691-planning-to-get-an-import-r31/page/2/#findComment-744979 Share on other sites

Adam_RSX
Yeah I'd go a GTS-X and mod it rather than a GTS-R. They were a homologation special, so its just all the biggest bits they thought they might want to use for racing, which doesnt mean it will work well as a road car Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/35691-planning-to-get-an-import-r31/page/2/#findComment-744999 Share on other sites
sky^rkt
the r31 imports are a great car! i myself have a gts 4 door which now has an rb25det in it. when you are lookin at buying one, make sure to check every aspect of the car over, if it has high milage check the turbo, and check that the head isnt gone. it isnt fun when the head goes =[ anyways good luck in finding the car! there are plenty out there you just gota keep a look out Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/35691-planning-to-get-an-import-r31/page/2/#findComment-745040 Share on other sites
MicksR30
hey all, i just stuffed the L24E motor in my Aussie MR30. Im looking either for a complete R30 for sale (any model), converting mine to RB20DET. Or perhaps selling mine. If anyone is interested it is Ti model, electric windows, cushy seats etc. No rust. straight body and two tone paint, dark metalic blue top and silver bottom. obviusly with a dead motor. They were a homologation special, so its just all the biggest bits they thought they might want to use for racing, which doesnt mean it will work well as a road car I'd agree.. while they have some niceties.. and of course the classic and rare status.. for the ~$10k price difference you could easily work up a GTS-X with RB25DET (or even 26dett) conversion and lots of other things. None of the suspension, drivetrain or anything else in the GTS-R is that special compared to what is out there these days - maybe back in its day it had a few features ahead of its time, but you're really just paying for the status and name.
