I am having major dilema's with trying to buy a car. I sold my MY98 WRX cheaply in an effort to get back into a skyline, As i had found the car i wanted to buy. Went and took it for a test drive and everything is awesome except for a whine when decelerating in 1st and 2nd, So i got a mechanical check done on it. As expected problem with gearbox.

Because of this i am driving around in a gutless nissan pulsar that my girlfriends sister owns. The problem now is trying to find another car that fits into my stringent criteria. It took me 4 months to locate my first line and i was hoping it wouldn't take so long this time.

I have looked everywhere for a 95+ silver or Black GTS-t, obviously for the right price.

Anyway to save me too much hassle, Does anyone know of any good gearbox places in Brisbane?

Cheers

ummm last time i looked r33 gtst boxes were like a 1k or bit more? plus fitting and everything will add up to 1.5k

There is also the problem of buying second hand boxes knowing if they are stuffed or not too.......i bought a used box once and one of the syncho's was ****ed as well as the bearing was leaking oil onto the clutch and rooted that too.

I know you have been looking for ages blx, but surely theres quite a few r33's getting around now. I would advise you not to get this car as other people said in the other post, a stuffed gearbox usually means its been thrashed and who knows how well the engine has been looked after? i mean they are strong engines but not bulletproof.

Get another one unless you can negotiate the price really good. I know how hard it is waiting, but make sure you get it right the first time, you dont want a car with problems niggling at you everytime you drive it.

yeah.. watch the gearbox. If its dodgy, its only gonna get worse and they're not cheap to replace, or recondition for that matter. Give it some stick and it'll get worse rapidly.

Keep looking I say.. and don't be so picky on colours, or it being 95 :P Otherwise you will be looking for ages. Everybody wants black.

Haha I tried the 'being picky game' 2 years ago  I only knew of 2 R34 non-turbo autos in the country at the time.....I bought one of them because of the complete lack of choice. Glad I did though, cause it's got a sunroof an they're hard to find :P

If your buying the car from a dealer and it comes with a warranty... just give it some stick and when the box blows get it replaced on warranty... i mean u get the car u want and it saves buying the box... just make sure that u keep up the 5000K services and u'll be right.... just an option.... or on the other hand u could wait till god knows for "that car" to come and buy that one ultimatly its upto u good luck

    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
    • Any going to watch World Time Attack at SMSP this year?
    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
