Hi,

Just wondering if I'm missing any companies in my quoting process :)

I've done ratecity/infochoice which then did quotes against Budget and some others.

Commbank

AAMI

RACV

Alliance

Suncorp

Real Insurance

Bingle

Just Cars

The Buzz

Budget Direct

So far RACV & The Buzz have been the cheapest which was suprising :)

Bingle won't touch a car with more than zero modifications

Real won't touch this car because it has an exhaust, extractors, bonnet/headlight protectors & tint :)

Thanks,

Gareth

Maybe try Shannons, I have been with them for years.. pay slightly higher but they look after you. + Free windscreen replacement each year.

Might do that, but there website still says they don't cover daily drivers. This is a daily driver.

GIO

Would AAMI insure it, my missus has AAMI and is only allowed 1 mod..I also have my ute with AAMI for about $800 each ,full comp no excess which is pretty cheap I think

Surprised RACV was cheapest, what mods do they allow? They quoted us heaps more than AAMI.From memory was at least $400 more So did just cars which sux cause i really want to lower her car :(

Might do that, but there website still says they don't cover daily drivers. This is a daily driver.

I have my lightly modified Stagea, AND my povvo Mazda 323 daily with them. They'll do it if you have an "Enthusiast" vehicle with them as well.

Both vehicles are effectively on the same policy. My Mazda just had $6000 worth of PDR done after a hailstorm; no issues, so much easier to deal with than the "mainstream" companies, and I don't reckon it costs any more.

Also have my House & contents with them.

They do if you have other cars with them.

I will have a garage next year so that's an option then.

Went with RACV, I had to "tweak" my policy a few times. "Thebuzz" insurance was an option, and $40 / year cheaper, but there is a little surface rust on the car and that means they won't cover it. Any surface rust larger than a 20cent piece means 3rd party cover. And this year of falcon they didn't paint the engine blocks :(

RACV did:

10,000 agreed value $X

10,500 agreed value, same as above

11,000 agreed value, +$13

11,750 agreed value, +$13 (same as above)

11,800 agreed value, +40 (or more, hit the threshold!)

The interesting thing with RACV is they have no interest in your modifications. As long as the car is roadworthy your covered.

EDIT: I should mention I get a 5% loyalty discount (10% next year) off insurance :)

Might do that, but there website still says they don't cover daily drivers. This is a daily driver.

Mine is a daily and Shannons cover it (Possibly because they also insure Lukes Skyline?)

As for impecable driving record.... not too sure, I was 23 when we insured with them and I had a crash before we insured with them and was very low in demerit points on my licence but they took me on, maybe because the policy is in Luke's name and I am just a listed driver of the wagon and skyline and he had a fairly good record? (and was 3 years older than me so was over 25 at the time?)

They have been mostly good to deal with. Only issue we have had was when I wrote off the Magna a few years back it took them weeks to let us know the assessor had been out and confirm it was a write off, and even then there were stuff arounds when we were trying to buy the wreck back etc.

Other than that one incident things have been good with Shannons and I would recommend them.

Shannons also require an impeccable driving record dont they?

Under 25 they do not sure about after that

nope.

21 and have been in a crash which was my fault with my first car(when 18).

"he said no worries doesnt make a difference, only need 5 years of driving history including Learners Permit"

and continued to insure my car - daily/only car.

nope.

But did you have a garage for the car? Or appropriate off-street parking.

and have you had any fines in the last 5 years

Yes 1 red light camera fine. And that's it for the past 5 years.

But everytime I speak to them (only twice now) and I mention street parking its an instant no :)

    • Hope you aren't too sore after that one, might take a day or 2 to notice yet and I guess it is a loooooong drive home. On the bright side, tube frame front end is a thing at superlap, right?

    • The chart of front pressure to rear pressure (with one being on the x axis and the other being on the y axis) is not a straight line on a typical proportioning valve. At lower pressures there is a straight line with one slope, and at higher pressures that changes to a lower slope. That creates a bend in the line at that pressure, called the knee point. If you do not change the proportionng as the pressure gets higher, you will suffer excessive pressure (at one end of the car or the other, depending on which way you look at the proportioning action) and then get lockups at that end. The HFM BM57, from my memory of previous discussions, is based on the BM57 from a different car (to a Skyline), with a different requirement for the location of the knee point and the distribution of pressure front to rear, and so is not a good choice for an upgrade on a Skyline. Here's a couple of links to some old posts, one from here, one from elsewhere. A lot of it pertains to adjustable prop valves, but the idea is the same. There are plenty of discussions on here about this issue from al the many years of people wanting a cheap/accessible option. https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/ https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/
