If you just want a RWD RB26, the GTST option is definitely much cheaper.

I know on my R33 GTST, i've spent a lot of money on GTR seats front and rear, new front bar, bonnet, grill headlights etc and mine isn't even widebody yet. I'd much rather a RWD GTR over a engine swapped GTST!

contradicting sourself?? or a typo?

the second point you make is what makes the rwd GTR most wothwhile.

amongst less maintenance,

free range choice of tyres sizes that dont play up with attesa

quite a few gtrs need a transfere case rebuild, so no need to worry bout that

etc.

One point i thought may need changing is the front hubs/uprights to gtst, not sure if they are a direct swap? As the front driveshafts when done up tight support the disk assembly, or a large makeshift bolt and nut could overcome the problem.

id rather build an awesome GTSt with a 26, that wasn't trying to be a GTR.. for the expense of making a GTR faker you could've just used a combo of aftermarket parts (guages, seats, brakes, etc) to make a way better car anyway...

what are you gonna do with this GTR with half a driveline when you're bored of it? doesn't really sound cheap/easy to reverse the conversion... and if you wanna sell it, who's gonna buy it? etc

like half the cars out there  , i'd do it if i ever found a cheap one with a blown transfer or something :nyaanyaa:

my transfer case is farked, and i have two gearboxes and three diff/sump assemblies, so i figure, keep all the good stuff and if i so desire, probably one whole weekend and i can have it all reversed.

other that that, i love the sound of the wide body, 26 gtst, kinda.

also i live in a remote area, and parts are definitely not avail. without post etc

besides, i prefer doing something out of the norm,

looking to get a bit more lock out of the steering too, not as a drift car, but one i can take to anything.

stoooopidest thing ever... if u want a RWD gtr, but a R32 Gtst roller, wide body it, and put a rwd sump on rb26, get ya self a gtr rear cradle, and r33 GB.... cost you the same price as a gtr and you wont be distroying somthing that works....

  • 5 weeks later...

Why not leave the front active and take the back out?

FWD Gtr. Why has no one done THIS before?

=)

With an open centre diff so it single legs and then boost it to 600 hp.

Got me stumped why no one had done it.

well. im embarking on a vq35hr awd conversion yes awd out of a infinity in the usa. while im doing the conversion im going to be running the stock rwd 6 speed just to get it going/engineering etc etc.

thats untill i can modify my r32 gearbox or a r34gtr gearbox to suit the vq bellhousing. (not same as vq30/35. same as vq40 navara) that with my borg warner s400sx3 will just fry everywhere.

so i would not remove the 4wd. for the street its just to much fun being pinned into the seat rather than dissapering into a cloud of tyre smoke.. :)

    • bumping this post as im still having dramas, my fuel pick up is sitting on the bottom of the tank, my pump gets a constant 13 volts through a relay, my fuel pressure holds consistently without fluttering or dropping, yet as soon as im near half a tank of fuel my car starts fuel starving and leaning out, it cant be due to g force as it never pulls hard enough before it starts breaking up, any help would be much appreciated
    • Just a thought, was that car and auto at any point of its life? If so, maybe whoever bridged the inhibitor switch/circuit did a not so good job.
    • Wife wanted basket things in the wardrobe in our temporary house. Thought about ripping our the wardrobe and fitting the entire IKEA set, but it's a temporary house and we want to move in a few years. So IKEA advertises this as a 50cm unit, however the actually basket and rails measure 46cm wide. Only issue was depth, IKEA stuff is quite deep, where as the builder special junk is super shallow at less than 40cm. Send it, chopped the rails, then offset the mounting holes, job done, happy wife, less shit scattered all over the bedroom. Did the same to the other side too. Also drove the Skyline shit box today, dropped off oil at Supercheap Auto. I didn't realise they only now take max 2x bottles per visit. I visited 2x Supercheap Autos.
    • I've seen similar actually in my situation. You never know what tables are attempted to be used when the car thinks it's -99C or +200C. The fail state is not usually that extreme but you know what I mean - it was in my case though! This is where being able to read all the sensors is useful cause you see this stuff really quickly.
    • The above is very important. However as long as you keep timing relatively low, it's plausible to make your own knock ears and plausible to learn to tune with a modern ECU that can do wideband O2 correction like a boost controller. I mean if you only have one viable road to even drive the car on, learning to tinker to this level may be worth doing given you can't do much else with the car...?
