i was with just cars and had an agreed value plan and was paying 1700pa for my 33r with declared mods and they just decided to refuse me insurance on my vehicle when it was due to be renewed. Ill never go back. I am now with Lumley who seem.to do mainly special vehicles and are alot more compliant towards our requests. Age is 26, qld

gee i though agreed value was bases on market value of the car.

Either way i think Full comp is a rip off, majority of the time a little prang is not worth putting a claim through as you can buy second hand parts quite cheap.

Think over 5 years for example, at 2k premium thats 10k you could of saved, from that in the event that somethign happnens that 10k goes to repairs?

Then you need to worry about all your mods and if they will casue an exlusion, Then when you disclose them they bump up the quotes.

Dont get my wrong ive always gotten full comp, And as a pl plater in a skyline its not cheap.

Though now ive kind of been swayed to Fire and theft only.

End of the day insurance is a company and they want to make money.

Say you ahve full comp.....someone smahses your car and leaves.....Your stuck paying the excess are you not? who is your insurance company going to chase?

Half the time the repairs are worth more then the agreed value of the car therefore its a write off.

2 exapmles.

Mate bought a daily mirage for 8k, 2 months later gets hit by a truck on the way to work, Company says its a wirte off and he gets 5k market value for the car.

He was not at fault, Yet he looses out by 2k, Plus the money he pays in insurance,

2nd,

Mate runs up the gutter in his bimer, LOL i know..... Puts it thorugh for a claim....Takes it to repair quote and mechanic states They can only use new BMW parts.

front bumber and new wheel required with a few other little things, Bam it more then the agreed market value to wrtie off aswell.

Just another thing, Say you have some decent front end damage, Just car take it to there repairer.

Now...One would assume they would need to use all new Nissan Parts.

So for example New front bar from Nissan, New Front mount from nissan, New Headlights from nissan....ect ect

I doubt they would ever be allowed to use second hand wrecker parts...And there not goign to be jumping on here tralling the for sale threads now are they!

Isent there a new law that came in a little while back that if cirtain parts of the car are damanged its an instant write off. Used to be just chasis damange and now that has changed, I think if any structual part of the car is damaged its delcared an instant write off.

I would be checking with your insurance provider.

Here we go, Found the added excess table

This excess is additional to the standard excess if your car was being driven by a

person in the age ranges shown below at the time of the accident. The age excess

on your Policy depends on where you live.

Male

AGE NSW/ACT VIC QLD SA WA NT TAS

16-21 $500 $700 $600 $650 $650 $650 $400

22-24 $400 $600 $350 $550 $600 $550 $300

Female

AGE NSW/ACT VIC QLD SA WA NT TAS

16-21 $450 $650 $550 $350 $400 $350 $350

22-24 $350 $550 $300 $250 $300 $250 $300

It also states in there PDS

"Some excesses, like the standard excess, will apply whenever you make a claim, unless you can provide us

the name and address of the responsible party, or their vehicle’s registration number."

So like i said, In a hit and run case....Your coughing up the money still.

Two things to add;

1. Postcode makes a HUGE difference, particularly in Sydney. I had the Shannons rep on the phone telling me that my quote would be over $1,000 cheaper if the car were stored at my parents' place in the Mountains as opposed to the Inner South West, as they've "had a lot of stuff go missing from your postcode; not just damaged or vandalised; *go missing*".

2. The magic age used to be 25 when the age excess would 'disappear' and you would theoretically pay the same as your 50 y.o. dad, but I was told (again by the Shannons rep) that premiums continue to be higher even once you're over 25. The age threshold that is used to determine the sliding scale increase, also continues to increase itself; i.e. you're not paying "regular" prices until you're well into your late 20s or even early thirties.

Both of these factors will then also differ by each company's internal policy. It definitely pays to shop around!

I'm with Lumley Special Vehicles (underwritten by Wesfarmers). When I originally called them last December, they'd only just started up and were keen for new business (to compete with Shannons). Not sure if that's still the case; but they're definitely worth a shot particularly if they're still trying to steal market share.

Wow those are some fairly cheap premiums. My R34 GTT with Just Car was just over $2000 a year with the standard excess. 22 year's old in Brisbane.

To be fair I did lose my licence which bumped it up about $350 for the year.

Agreed value was $21k & they paid out 21k minus the excess coz my car got jacked.

Mine WAS up around $2700 when i was 24 due to loss of license and having a GTT, but i have stuck with Just Car all these years and it is down to $1400 or something..... That is with the highest excess etc..... Still have to sort the agreed value though as i think its a bit low but it seems the longer you are with them the better it gets!

Yeah the agreed value went from 21k to $16 500 when I got my renewal notice. Good thing the car got stolen whilst it was still insured for 21k or I would have not been happy.

Really good service though, took 3 weeks to payout & didnt have to provide a single thing apart from the police report number.

    • Cheers. Skyline is back on the menu, can’t get rid of it. It’s like a child you don’t want, or herpes
    • I got back to Japan in January and was keen to get back on track as quickly as possible. Europe is god-awful for track accessibility (by comparison), so I picked up a first-gen GT86 in December just to have something I could jump into right away. The Skyline came over in a container this time and landed in early January. It was a bit battered after Europe, though—I refused to do anything beyond essential upkeep while it was over there. The clutch master cylinder gave out, and so did the power steering. I didn’t even bother changing the oil; it was the same stuff that went in just before I left Japan the first time. Naughty. Power steering parts would’ve cost double with shipping and taxes, so knowing I’d be heading back to Japan, I just postponed it and powered through the arm workout. It took a solid three months to get the car back on the road. Registration was a nightmare this time around. There were a bunch of BS fees to navigate, and sourcing parts was a headache. I needed stock seats for shaken, mistakenly blew 34k JPY on some ENR34 seats—which, of course, didn’t fit—then ended up having the car’s technical sheet amended to register it as a two-seater with the Brides. Then there’s the GT86. Amazing car. Does everything I want it to do. Parts are cheap, easy to find, and I don’t care what anyone says—it’s super rewarding to drive. I’ve done a few basic mods: diff ratio, coilovers, discs, pads, seat, etc. It already had a new exhaust manifold and the 180kph limiter removed, so I assume it’s running some kind of map. I’ve just been thrashing it at the track non-stop—mostly Fuji Speedway now, since I need something with higher speed after all that autobahn time. The wheels on the R34 always pissed me off—too big, and it was a nightmare getting tires to fit properly under the arches. So I threw in the towel and bought something that fits better. Looks way cleaner too (at least to me)—less hotboy, less attention-seeking. Still an R34, though. Now for future plans. There are a few things still outstanding with the car. First up, the rear subframe needs an overhaul—that’s priority one. Next, I need to figure out an engine rebuild plan. No timeline yet, but I want to keep it economical—not cutting corners, just not throwing tens of thousands at a mechanic I can barely communicate with. And finally, paint. Plus a bit of tidying up here and there.
    • Nope, needed to clearance under the bar a little with a heat gun, a 1/2" extension as the "clearancer", and big hammer, I was aware of this from the onset, they fit a 2.0 with this intake no problems, but, the 2.5 is around 15mm taller than a 2.0, so "clearancing" was required  It "just" touched when test fitting, now, I have about 10mm of clearance  You cannot see where it was done, and so far, there's no contact when giving it the beans Happy days
    • It's been a while since I've updated this thread. The last year (and some) has been very hectic. In the second-half of 2024 I took the R34 on a trip through Germany, Italy, France and Switzerland - it was f*cking great. I got a little annoyed with the attention the car was getting around Europe and really didn't drive it that much. I could barely work on the car since I was living in an inner-city apartment (with underground parking). During the trip, the car lost power steering in France - split hose - and I ended up driving around 4,000kms with no power steering.  There were a few Nurburgring trips here and there, but in total the R34 amassed just shy of 7,000kms on European roads. Long story short, I broke up with the reason I was transferred to Europe for and requested to be moved back to Japan. The E90, loved it. It was a sunk cost of around EUR 10,000 and I sold it to a friend for EUR 1,500 just to get rid of it quickly. Trust me, moving countries f*cking sucks and I could not be bothered to be as methodical as I was the first time around.
