Hi there peeps... Can anyone give guidance and their experiences in making the necessary modifications for registration of R32-GTST under the 15+ import rule. Such mods Prestige Motorsport suggest are:

retractable seatbelts for rear seats, sun visors, child restraint points on the rear parcel shelf for cars with rear seats, high level brake light, driver's side mirror to be changed from convex to flat, unleaded fuel filler opening restrictor, side intrusion bars, engineer's certificate, and a new set of tyres if the Japanese tyres are worn out.

Where and how have people done these mods and how did they go when having their car inspected at Regency TransSA?

Also have people come across any problems when purchasing a import on the net (in particular Prestige Motorsport)? Did you get what you thought you paid for and was their any probs with shipping and DOTARs?

Cheers heeps guys!

i thought the tyres had to be replaced reguardless of condition

no because this is a 15 year old car if the tyres are worn out than u have to change them.

prestige motor sport from wat ive heard are pretty good as in service and they tell ya wats happening hope that helps mate

I imported an RX7 Series 4 Turbo through mark @ MY Trading. He was a pretty honest guy and guided me through the whole process its fairly straight forward. Just remember, you get what you pay for so pay that little extra for your car otherwise you will enfd up with a POS. Only a few things will need to be changed for a skyline, intrusion bars will most probably be needed and the most costly, CRA 's for the rear seats, dimmer switch, drivers side mirror, fuel restrictor etc... As long as the tyres have suficcient tread you wont have to change them. Shipping and taxes aprrox $2300 on a 390000 yen car.

A mate of mine just brought in a modded Cefiro, i believe he only needed an engineers certificate for the intrusion bars (4 on a cefiro), but while he was there he got everything else engineered (full roll cage, bucket seats, body kit, suspension, front mount etc.). Probably worth while.

Cheers guys, Is the engineer's certificate only required for the intrusion bars on the 2 front doors... or a certificate for the whole car???

The whole car. The engineers certificate then allows you to get a blue slip (ie. get number plates) and then do rego.

I have a list of places in Sydney as I am importing an R32 GT-R -- but not adeliade I'm afraid. There doesn't seem to be a directory of these workshops so they can be quite hard to find, but Geoff should be able to point you to someone. The cheapest in Sydney is about $1200, the median is about $1500, and the more expensive places about $1800-1900.

LW.

Iwells, what do you mean by the "whole" car?

As I understand it, all the modifications too the car to comply with the ADRs must be certified by an engineers report. That doesn't mean they have to be installed by an engineer, merely that they have to be present and working when the car is certified.

I could be wrong though :)

No worries Iwells, my mate got it engineered after the intrusion bars and before all the other stuff. Maybe it was a bit on the dodge??

My GTRs on the way too, so i guess i'll find out. I intend on using the same guy though because i cant believe the mods that were passed. RTA checked it all out ok too.

Prestige Motorsport claim not all states need a engineers certificate.... which states are these???

Also, my R32 GTS-T will be completely stock standard (initially). So does that mean I only need a engineers certificate for the intrusion bars as they are the only mechanical modification done to the vehicle b4 rego???

    • When you say your cams are 272/262 is that 272in and 262ex?
    • We're arguing semantics. I am saying 45 accel and a 55 deccel ramp are "2 ways". Even a 45 degree ramp and an 89 degree ramp is "2 ways", because it is literally... two ways. The cusco 55/30 ramp is a 2 way. It's two ways. I get it though - in normal nomenclature a "2 way" would be 45/45 or 55/55 or 60/60 i.e the same locking in both directions. And something like 45/65 would be considered "1.5 way". I would then say if we're getting into the nitty gritty then every locking diff is a "2 way" diff and we should not speak in 1.5, or 2 ways but ramp angles instead. Which ofc if one of those ramp angles is 90deg, that side is not doing any locking. :p So Nismo don't obviously sell 3 things. The fact of the matter that they only sell two items really goes to show that there's a 2 way and a "1,5 way" which is really a 1 way. I believe the actual lockup for the 'adjustability' of the GT pro is really just setting preload for when the ramps actually start locking up. It's not changing how much 'wayness' there is. It is (somehow) horribly explained. People just buy whatever diff and go "locks up good bruh" and that's what ends up on socials forever.
    • No, you're wrong, and you've always been wrong about this. The Nismo has 2 sets of openings. One is a real 2-way, and the other is a 1-way. There is no 1.5-way possible with the ramps that they offer. A real 1.5-way does exist. That Cusco stuff I posted is a prime example. If the forward drive ramps are, say 55°, and the overrun ramps are, say, 30°, then you will get about half as much LSD effect on overrun than you do on drive. It is real, it realy works. OK, you're slightly right. The Nismo has 55° and 45° ramps on the 2-way, so it does offer less LSD effect on overrun. But, I think that just means that they've (probably) sensibly established that you do not want actually equal LSD effect on overrun. You just want "quite a lot, but not quite as much as the drive LSD effect".
