I was driving along Canterbury road yesterday and just over a rise there was a popo road block that funnelled three lanes into the centre lane where a sensor on a tripod about 1/2 meter off the road was scanning (I assume the number plate but maybe more) the front of all cars in the queue.

There would have been 50 cars at the time and the lane went about 20 meters where there was a number of popo pulling over some but waving most through.

So, If the sensor was scanning number plates for unregistered cars or registered cars owned by suspended/cancelled drivers then, as there were five cars and a truck pulled over at the time I went past then I can't believe 10% of an arbitrary bunch of drivers are in that category.

If not then wtf is the sensor testing for?

Frankly un licensed/un registered cars...they can go to town as far as I'm concerned.

been hit by 2 in the past, thankful I've always had comp insurance.

not sure about amount, but every time I have seen them in action they have a bunch of ppl pulled over.

and some will be in teh clear.

eg if I have lost my license even if some-one else is driving my car they get pulled for a check.

But I think the amount of un reg/ un lic on the street would scare most ppl.

And really with todays modern policing, ie all about speed cameras, so long as Bin laden was under the speed limit he could have been hanging in Victoria for the past 10 years and he would have been still safe!

I've never come across this before so it seems to me that with the 3km speed tolerance (fkuk 3km at 100kmph is only 3% margin) and this type of thing, if they have a combined camera/electronic scanner they may be testing ride height, popped lights, all sorts of things.

Guess I see it as a trend where maybe we should all get a roadworthy every Monday before heading out for the week.

Cynical me I suppose but the government even talks up "more revenue through speed cameras" these days.

Still if it's just nabbing unreg/unlicenced ppl then that's all good.

But it's getting more un-nerving as time goes on.

It's not just unrego and unlicensed cars.

It's also if you have outstanding warrants (read: fines) with the Sherrif/Police, checks for Alcohol interlock etc etc.

There is a broad selection of things they are looking at.

I mean you could have $150 outstanding with the Sherrif for example - and that will nail you going through one of those cameras

Sounds like a good idea to me. A lot of people (read: scumbags) hide behind privacy legislation for civil matters...friggen leeches of society.

There are TONS of unregistered cars on the road. All it takes is someone to have not paid their rego for a week. The percentage of unregistered motorbikes is much higher though.

Checks for Unlicesed driver, unregisterd car, suspended/disquailified drivers, Warrants both Police and Sherriff any wherabouts for vehicle and or car owner. Also if vehicle owned by learner driver. They generally coincide with booze bus so obviously drink driver's also caught. In some operations we have taxi directorate there and check all taxi's and even immigration along with EPA.

I have worked these operations and no matter how many of us are there we are always flat out. I should be working one agian in couple of weeks.

I agree. This is a great initiative from Vic Pol! Finally getting to the bottom of the real issues on our roads.

Get them all i say!

If you dont pay rego or dont have a license, you SHOULD be caught!

Seen this in Caroline springs few months back, next day there was a carpark on the side of the western highway lol.

Big thing in the herald sun a few days ago about these units.

I was wondering what that was about! I thought it might of been drink drivers who got done - But now I know!

So if a skyline goes through one of these they may get stopped to check for EPA and maybe some other things?

I have worked these operations and no matter how many of us are there we are always flat out.

that should answer your question.

If you go through any police operation without a EPA/defect - You've had a good day.

Buy a lotto ticket would be my best advice in that situation as lady luck is on your side.

Go in with a golden rule - you are never safe :D

so you think the comment "I have worked these operations and no matter how many of us are there we are always flat out."

Means "but if your driving an import we will drop everything to defect you"?

    • I thought that might be the case, thats what I'll start saving for. Thanks for the info
    • Ps i found the below forum and it seems to be the same scenario Im dealing with. Going to check my ECU coolant temp wire tomorrow    From NICOclub forum: s1 RB25det flooding at start up Thu Apr 11, 2013 7:23 am I am completely lost on this. Car ran perfectly fine when I parked it at the end of the year. I took the engine out and painted the engine bay, and put a fuel cell with an inline walbro 255 instead of the in tank unit I had last year. After reinstalling everything, the engine floods when the fuel pump primes. if i pull the fuel pump fuse it'll start, and as soon as I put the fuse back in it starts running ridiculously rich. I checked the tps voltage, and its fine. Cleaned the maf as it had some dust from sitting on a shelf all winter, fuel pressure is correct while running, but wont fire until there is less than 5psi in the lines. The fuel lines are run correctly. I have found a few threads with the same problem but no actual explanation of what fixed it, the threads just ended. Any help would be appreciated. Rb25det s1 walbro255 fuel pump nismo fpr holset hx35 turbo fmic 3" exhaust freddy intake manifold q45tb q45 maf   Re: s1 RB25det flooding at start up Fri Apr 12, 2013 5:07 am No, I didn't. I found the problem though. There was a break in one of the ecu coolant temp sensor wires. Once it was repaired it fired right up with no problems. I would have never thought a non working coolant temp sensor would have caused such an issue.
    • Hi sorry late reply I didnt get a chance to take any pics (my mechanics on the other side of the city) but the plugs were fouled from being too rich. I noticed the MAF wasn't genuine, so I replaced it with a genuine green label unit. I also swapped in a different ignitor, but the issue remains. I've narrowed it down a bit now: - If I unplug and reconnect the fuel lines and install fresh spark plugs, the car starts right up and runs perfectly. Took it around the block with no issues - As soon as I shut it off and try to restart, it won't start again - Fuel pressure while cranking is steady around 40 psi, injectors have good spray, return line is clear, and the FPR vacuum is working. It just seems like it's getting flooded after the first start I unplugged coolant sensors to see if its related to ECU flooding but that didnt make a difference. Im thinking its related to this because this issue only started happening after fixing coolant leaks and replacing the bottom part of the stock manifolds coolant pipe. My mechanic took off the inlet to get to get to do these repairs. My mechanics actually just an old mate who's retired now so ill be taking it to a different mechanic who i know has exp with RBs to see if they find anything. If you have any ideas please send em lll give it a try. Ive tried other things like swapping the injectors, fuel rail, different fuel pressure regs, different ignitor, spark plugs, comp test and MAF but the same issue persists.
    • My return flow is custom and puts the return behind the reo, instead of at the bottom. All my core is in the air flow, rather than losing some of it up behind the reo. I realise that the core really acts more as a spiky heatsink than as a constant rate heat exchanger, and that therefore size is important.... but mine fits everything I needed and wanted without having to cut anything, and that's worth something too. And there won't be a hot patch of core up behind the reo after every hit, releasing heat back into the intake air.
