Sell the car - but a turbo model.

Then you get the brakes, gearbox and everything else.

It'll cost more to upgrade your bits than it would to actually buy a car and just use what comes standard.

What are you trying to achieve with a 6-speed gearbox anyway?

It'll cost you 5-6x as much, and really offer nothing.

thanks man, down the line when im finished the engine ill probably go all out with the 6 speed gearbox,

but atm ,

im up to getting the mods (in progress) and fitting them, tuning it, work out all the kinks, lay down some 1/4 mile times, hopefully some track runs

and then worry about cruising down the highway in six ,haha, would be sweet though.

cheers.

Keep us updated with ya progress man.. and welcome to the forums

f**k why do threads like this end up with ppl giving him so much shit?! Its pretty obvious from his first post he was just after some advice/opinions on the matter.. Sure, heaps of ppl are helping, but he's also getting a bunch of f**kwitts that act like its money outta there pocket and some sort of insult that he wants to do something different.. If you have nothing helpful to say f**k off.

Different is one thing, a gross waste of money is another :)

But ye, not the first "i wanna put a 6-speed" thread, there have been many in the past, and thankfully people realise there is little point and stick with the normal 5 speed.

Also the same for getting a N/A upto a turbo-spec type thing. Easier and cheaper to start from a turbo base.

mate im in the process of an engine build,

and i beleive an rb25de head iis better, then the rb25det head when building this sort of thing ,

sure its harder, but its what i want to do, so enough critism mate.

i am asking for info.

Nismoid does have some solid points man, in just about every case its going to be cheaper and easier to start with the turbo model as its base has the better gearbox, diff and brakes as far as im aware. Having said that, i completely agree with your decision to do it your way. With these forums having wrecked turbo models all the time, you can pick up all your parts really cheaply anyway. Plus the plans for the car sound awesome.

well s15 6 speed is a pile of shit when lined up next to rb25 5 speed.... so dont bother looking at this as an option.

s13 never had 6 speed.... so yer i dunno what you meant by that.

With a lot of f**king around you can get a gtr box to work but im slightly confused as to why????

if you can give reasoning for ur want of changing to 6 speed then it may help.

unless u regularly drive down the highway at 160 kmph then what is it needed for?

and if your doing track work unless your thing is a missile you wont need 6th gear i would not imagine (depending on track)

if i was going to contemplate spending this much money doing a 6 speed conversion i would just bite the bullet, borrow some money and put a 6 speed sequential hollinger in my bus hahah

from what i recall, to make a gtr 6 speed work well you would also need the diffs, once again cost is going up for no real gain

as everyone has suggested already through experience and knowledge its much better to stick with the 5 speed

6 speed may not change final drive much anyway, it will primarily fill in gaps, which with the torque that an 30/25 will make is going to be of little benefit, you may even find that on a track with the weight and extra changes you will go slower. But you did say that you were just after advice about which box to use, maybe a Supra box?

thanky you, finally someone understands, its not about performance its about drivability sure the 5 speed is great, but i want a 6 speed, i dont need one i just would like to have one.

started with the n/a so even shitty turbo wrecked parts is a start lol, ive got the engine and drivetrain part going good so far, so the wrecked turbo parts ect turbo brakes ect will be all i need. for the time being until i get into serious stuff like racing, track work ect but right now its basically a sleeper project that isnt a typical sleeper, thanks.

im just contemplating my options ive always wanted a 6 speed not to make my car go faster (cause theres no difference except for the extra gear) just cause i want one, am i being so obscene to want to do it my way?

sorry about the s13 6 speed, some dude informed me it was good, ( to bad theres no such thing) thanks.

yes thanks, ive always liked the supra 6 speed, im not worried about the final drive ratios ( i would've just changed the diff ratios lol) thanks mate

im not after gain though, im after a nice drivable car capably of cruising down the highway (my ratios are f@#%ed im doing 3400 rpm at 100kmph in 5!)

while also capable of some sweet power,

thanks for your input, cheers.

thanks man good to now there are some good guys that are actually interested in my plans and not just try talk me out of it cause they dont like the idea, my car , my plans , my way . cheers mate thanks heaps.

    • Harness is for a s1 Rb25det, and it is engine and lower harness.  the old harness had broken off plugs and was in very rough condition/exposed wires and splices etc. it is not able to be put back on the car, I could visually inspect to see if they had rewired any pins on the ecu plug. The fuel pump definitly isn’t turning off it’s an external pump and very loud you can hear it. Will look at the other harness tonight, am also going to pull the fuel rail and watch the injectors spray, will update here with what I find. Pretty sure at this point it has to be something to do with injectors because car will fire up on starting fluid and cas is clicking the Injectors. Fuel pressure is steady 43psi
    • Check the injectors flow evenly, and are actually flowing what you and the ECU think they should be flowing. If it's starting up on starter fluid, you have a fuel issue. Is it possible under cranking your fuel pump is turning off?   The harness you replaced, is that the whole engine harness? Do yourself a test, and drop the old harness on and plug it into the Z32 ECU. It's possible they've wired things different. From memory S1 to S2 is different in RB25 and you may have a wrong loom
    • I haven’t pulled the injectors to watch them spray yet but they are clicking from the cas and all of the spark plugs are wet with fuel. I’ve thought the cylinders were being flooded from the beginning and was hoping fuel pressure would fix it. Tonight I am going to pull the rail and watch the injectors spray. Don’t know how to test/diagnose if the plugs are firing in correct sequence but that should be a timing thing and as far as timing goes my car still has the half moon for the cas can only install it 1 way. And my mechanical timing is 100% correct I posted photos above. Confirmed with the balancer on and off.
    • I checked spark on all cylinders and they all visually have spark with the plug pulled and grounded, but plug 1 is the only one that fouled. This was a running swap that blew up and was rebuilt by a machine shop, put a new wiring specialties harness and did all gaskets, studs, and bolts while it was out.  compression is 135-150 across all cylinders. Aside from that from my understanding with the z32 ecu and maf the car should start regardless. The wiring for TPS and the dual 02 sensor/ dual knock sensor stuff shouldn’t actually stop the car from starting or even running well, (just slightly rich)  they just give fault codes. Car supposedly is supposed to start as long as you have z32 afm and ecu with the nistune base map and that’s info coming from a well known and trusted tuner who does a lot with SR/RB (Rsenthalpy). After more trouble shooting today where I’m at right now is that the cas is sending signal to the injectors they click while spinning the rotor, Fuel pressure is now set at 43psi, all cylinders have good compression and all of the plugs looked great (just wet with fuel) except for cylinder 1 which was very black (cylinder 1 has 150psi compression). all of the coils generate spark if pulled out and grounded out on the head. On the fuel pump car just pops into the exhaust. On starting fluid car will fire off. Hard to tell if all cylinders are firing off but definitley a couple. sounds like all of them but it’s only for 3-5 seconds hard to tell.
