and last but not least another one i have but am not too fond of. THe GoPRO!

review has it right about the tricky lcd menu screen but doesnt mention that every other SD card has compatibility issues and how easy it is to break the supplied mounts..ordered a double suction cup unit with the drift camera above as the gopro single suction jobbie keeps flying off the car..

question, have we found if it is illegal to put a camera in your car to record things like the cops pulling us over without letting them know?, plus, i'm thinking about just getting one so i can put it in the car for things like track days and drag strips

as long as your in the pblic domain and not stalking anyone theres nothing to stop you from filming whoever the hell you want.

just dont test it out at the local kiddies pool or a bikie gang meet..could have interesting consequences for your health..

as for cops, meh its up to them if they get mad but they are being recorded by their own systems so cant imagine why they would be bothered by you doubling up..

At present, there are no laws governing recording of data in a public place (a roadway, by definition, is a public place).

The consensus seems to be that whatever you do in public, you should be willing to have recorded.

There are laws that prevent image/audio recording where people have a reasonable expectation of privacy (e.g. your own home).

The police inform you because things you say/do might be used in evidence, and there is the requirement that you are informed (basically because they have an unfair advantage).

The reason that call centres inform is due to the Telecommunications Act 1997 - you are using a carrier service, and it's unlawful to record something carried by such a service without

either a warrant, or informing the parties that they are being recorded.

Outcome: As of now (2011); by law, you don't need to inform a police officer (or anyone else) that they're being recorded by your camera/phone/incar surveillance

if you get pulled over and are recording them from your car. The police officers have no reasonable expectation of privacy when they are interacting with you.

SW

Just be aware that defamation laws still apply even if it's not illegal. Poorly thought out displays of video can still have severe consequences.

I would love to have an onboard camera too however, and with motion detecting for when the car is parked. Some years back my new car (2nd hand but first day I had owned it) got keyed in the car park as I was doing the change of ownership thing. I came outside and nearly died. Even though the car was insured earlier that day I just couldn't bring myself to go back to the insurance and say it had been keyed that afternoon. Video proof would have given me the confidence to go back and see the insurance company.

As of 2006 truth became a complete defence:

So it would be very hard for someone to win a defamation case based on the content of an unedited video.

Cheers,

you can record and you don't need permission because you are in a public place. just like how the police can record you without permission.

however, is it a good idea? well depends on the situation. IMO, I would only bother if I was 100% sure, the police were doing something illegal.

Otherwise you will just create more problems for yourself.

I can just imagine the words " follow me to the nearest EPA van"

As stated, all HWP cars in NSW have video anyway. The thing to remember is your video camera in your car also records evidence of any offences you commit and in some situations may be siezed as evidence against you.

Here's some options to consider. HD is important as it allows for number plate recognition etc. GPS is also important to establish Date, Time, Location, speed etc

here's the original thread FFS

kinda want a new gopro but i had so many issues with the my first gen model im a bit scared of them.

TV stations can afford to buy hundreds of them and just toss the ones that start having compatability issues with SD cards or ceasing to function after they fly off your car due to the crappy mounting equipment supplied with them

bought a drift innovation camera a while back

been good times since.

wish i could afford the contour thingy with the GPS but im sure prices will drop eventually

No stuff them they wanna be pricks cos we drive imports record them and report them so there attitude will be investigated some of them have no right treating and speaking To us like shit for no reason they have a problem some of them and u can report them online by the way

    • So.....wire it up appropriately. You can't use the resister pack with those injectors anyway.
    • that’s the thing i’m on ID1050s and haltech not getting power due to the injector resistor
    • ahh okay cheers, i was thinking of just going for the m073, think m079 would be way too overkill considering they are same size.
    • My first car was a HG. I'm very familiar with them. A mild cam upgrade is a good idea. The 186 is a very flexible engine - meaning it has good torque from down low. You can give up a little torque down low for quite a lot more excitement in the mid range, and a bit more up top - but they are not exactly a rev monster. You need to upgrade valve springs at the minimum. For a bigger cam, you'd want to make sure it wasn't still running the original fibre cam gear. That would be unlikely, given that most of them shat themselves in the 70s and 80s, but still within the realms of possibility. Metal cam gear required. Carbies are a huge issue. The classic upgrade was always a Holley 350, which works, but is usually pretty bad for fuel consumption. The 186S had a 2 barrel Stromberg on it that was very similar to the one on the 253, and is a reasonable thing if you can find one, and find someone to help you get it set up (which is the same issue with setting up a 350 to work nice). The more classic upgrade was twin sidedraught CD type carbs, or triples of same, or triple Webers. The XU-1 triple Webers being the best example. You can still buy all this stuff new, I think, but it's a lot of coin to drop. And then the people able to set them up are getting fewer and further in between. There's still some, but it used to be everyone's** dad and uncle could do it. **Not everyone's! But a lot. All in all, I wouldn't get too carried away with the engine. Anything you do to it without a full rebuild for power and revs will only make it slightly faster. I am all in favour of a complete teardown rebuild, with nice rods and pistons, 10 or 10.5:1 compression, and a clean port job with at least a big enough cam to run 98 with that compression, if not bigger. And if I did that to a dirty old red motor, I'd want to inject it too, which I'd struggle to fight against the devil on my shoulder that would argue for ITBs and trumpets. But the bills would start to mount up, and it will still never make stupid power. OK, a few people still know how to build absolutely mental red motors, courtesy of the work that went into HQ racing and modern knowledge being applied. But even a 300HP red motor is no match for an RB20 with a TD06. So you have to decide what it's worth to you. I'd just put a set of 6>2>1 extractors, a 2.5" exhaust and an electronic ignition conversion/dizzy on it and just run the old girl like the fairly slow old girl that she really is.
