Classic man... going to town to see a customer as my r34 is a work car and I was travelling through the parklands just befor south tce and greenhill rd.

Saw this kunstable on his 2 wheeler just sitting there on the other side of the road, i thought it was a bit wierd as he was looking my way and i was on the opposite sid of the road and he had no laser gun....hmmm took off from the lights nice and casual. I drove past some cars on the left on the way into town and all of the sudden ther is 12 oinkers pulling me and 1 other car over.

Im thinking this is a wierd breatho for 2 pm on a tuesday.

then a nice policeman approached with a defect book in hand, ( i think he was keen to canary my car at a guess) as he invited 4 of his mates looked over my ride.

I just sat there as they checked my licence and rego then asked me to "pop the bonnet son"...

I then pulled out the trump card, i got out of the car and said " sorry boys but this car only recently went through regency and you wont find anything illegal on it" and by the way here is the paperwork i said....they just looked at each other stunned, the car had just been converted from Vic rego to Sa and its a work car so i got rid of the Bov etc.

The copper said I could go on my way, then this other nice policeman said, hangon we are going to defect him for no tyre placard, so I flipped down the glovebox and there it was, then the copper said " lets defect him for window tint being to dark...I laughed and pointed out that it was Factory cut UV glass and showed them the stamp on the window.

"on your way said the unhappy policemen 4 in total at this stage... pity they didnt notice the illegal xenon headlights.... go pick on a clapped out commodore blowing tonnes of smoke with bald tyres remember u r public servants.

its bad at the moment, there are defect stations every where.

There were two yesterday (that i know of). They were on south rd and bridge rd.

The one on bridge rd was just before montague rd, near the caltex. They pulled my mate in (who drives a stock mirage) and they tried to do him over for tyres and tint.

Its getting harder and harder to drive my car round wit out having to look behind my shoulder every second!!

The cops here are unbelievable. Going back and forward to see Matt in Sydney a few times, I've noticed that they barely even look at you over there compared to here. If you're not doing anything wrong they tend to leave you alone. Obviously they've got more important stuff to take care of.

I dont understand how they thing they can defect you for window tint when you just went through regency. go figure.

I work for 3 the new mobile network so they pay for the r34... what would you rather have for a work car, a stock commodore or an r34?

Insurance aint too bad and its nice and legal soo I am lucky when it comes to defect stations.

But it makes me wonder why the police concerntrate on imports when you see so many defectable peices of crap on the road, fair enough some imports have been illegally modified which poses another question, if a bov or exhaust or turbo timer is sooo illegal why do insurance companies insure the imports with those modifications listed on the policy?

I enjoy imports because they are different from a crappy commodore ( which puts out more power up to 285kw or more from factory).

Why should I be penalised or singled out when I always obide by the lawmakers rules FFS?

i was driving down St Bernards Rd the other day doing the speed

limit, when a copper went past. Saw them put there indicator on

and was luckily only about 100 metres from my girlfriends house,

pulled into her driveway and reverse parked my car so they couldn't

see it from the street.

We went out in her car 10 minutes later and they were still out

there looking for my car. How crap is that, it is just BS considering

my car is very stock.

Its a conspiracy to make us buy local cars.

Old Aussie Bomb = Perfectly Legal.

Import = Find anything to defect them.

Its a bit rude if your car is legal then they try something so minor and keep going till they get something no matter how minor.

Thing is this would go into their general statistics, which would make their numbers look better.

Then Mr Mike Rann will say "The latest un-roadworthy car campaign we found thousands of cars they are not suppose to be on the roads".....

Its like the Police Blitz they had on the Adelaide to Victor Harbor road going back a while. They where going on that they caught 200 drivers in 3 days.

TRUTH :

* They had just changed the speed limit to 100 from 110.

* They often had 3 camera's hidden within 4km of each other.

* 200 may sound like a lot but According the Police Annual report 1.9% of drivers are speeding. Check out their annual report www.police.sa.gov.au. 6,000 people use this road daily and more on weekends. That is only 1.1% of drivers. ( I wonder how many of these where caught 3 times, or because the speed limit just changed ).

* They started patrolling the neighbouring roads and these where also included in the 200.

People where thinking 200 people in 3 days, that’s heaps, we have a problem.....if they got the full story they would realize this is well below the state average & people where caught several times.

People will see that so many cars where defected and think that we have a problem, but if small things like incorrect tyre stickers are being reported how fudged are the Statistics they feed us on a daily basis.

Nice work cell

I was travelling back with a car load of pizza's for the boys and passed a "kunstable" in his fancy XR8 cop cars as they are here, and sure enough he pulled a ubolt. I pulled over after crappin myself as I do in Adelaide, hiding the power fc hanset under the seat, closing the engine altering electronic gaget filled glove box and winding down my jet black windows only to be greetted by "Very Nice Car Mate". I didn't have any of my already lined up excuses that I could reply with so I just stood there like a dork with a puzzeled look on my face.... The "Kunstable" walked to the front of my car and said " Oh you do have a number plate" (as it is set to one side)and proceeded to tell me how some idiots put lines through theirs to obstruct the letters. He then left wishing me a good day. I got back in the car wondering how he didn't notice my number plate was home made from perspex and I had no front indicators at all... I don't know if the cops in NSW are all like that ,but to date I am not one to complain.....mind you 58 cars were defected down Homebush and 3 impounded the other night for street racing. I think I will have to find a friend with a stocka a go check it out.

I am all for the "if you aint doing anything wrong then be left alone" attitude. Does seem to be the norm here.

do you members know that sapol read this site constantly?

exactly timmmaayyy.

Boostd: The thing over in sydney is that they cant pull u over unless u have done somethin wrong. In ur case, he thought u had no licence plate, ie due cause to pull u over. Upon inspection he saw u did have one and left u alone.

SA used to have the same laws in that u only can be pulled over if u have done somethin wrong, however its now been changed so that any random "cough import" car can be pulled over for a roadworth check and breath test.

    • Update 3: Hi all It's been a while. Quite a lot of things happened in the meantime, among other things the car is (almost) back together and ready to be started again. Things that I fixed or changed: Full turbo removal, fitting back the OEM turbo oil hardlines. Had to do quite a bit of research and parts shopping to get every last piece that I need and make it work with the GT2860 turbos, but it does work and is not hard to do. Proves that the previous owner(s) just did not want to. While I was there I set the preload for the wastegates to 0,9bar to hopefully make it easier for the tuner to hit the 370hp I need for the legal inspections that will follow later on. Boost can always go up if necessary. Fitted a AN10 line from the catch can to the intake hose to make the catchcan and hopefully the cam covers a slight vacuum to have less restrictive oil returns from the head and not have mud build up as harshly in the lines and catch can. Removed the entire front interior just shy of the dashboard itself to clean up some of the absolutely horrendous wiring, (hopefully) fix the bumpy tacho and put in LED bulbs while I was there. Also put in bulbs where there was none before, like the airbag one. I also used that chance to remove the LED rpm gauge on the steering column, which was also wired in absolute horror show fashion. Moved the 4in1 Prosport gauge from sitting in front of the OEM oil pressure gauge to the center console vents, I used a 3D printed vent piece to hold that gauge there. The HKB steering wheel boss was likely on incorrectly as I sometimes noticed the indicator reset being uneven for left vs. right. In the meantime also installed an airbag delete resistor, as one should. Installed Cube Speed premium short shifter. Feels pretty nice, hope it'll work great too when I actually get to drive. Also put on a fancy Dragon Ball shift knob, cause why not. My buddy was kind enough to weld the rust hole in the back, it was basically rusted through in the lowermost corner of the passenger side trunk area where the wheel arch, trunk panel and rear quarter all meet. Obviously there is still a lot of crustiness in various areas but as long as it's not rusted out I'll just treat and isolate the corrosion and pretend it's not there. Also had to put down a new ground wire for the rear subframe as the original one was BARELY there. Probably a bit controversial depending on who you ask about this... but I ended up just covering the crack in the side of the engine block, the one above the oil feed, with JB Weld. I used a generous amount and roughed up the whole area with a Dremel before, so I hope this will hold the coolant where it should be for the foreseeable future. Did a cam cover gasket job as the half moons were a bit leaky, and there too one could see the people who worked on this car before me were absolute tools. The same half moons were probably used like 3 times without even cleaning the old RTV off. Dremeled out the inside of the flange where the turbine housing mates onto the exhaust manifolds so the diameter matches, as the OEM exhaust manifolds are even narrower than the turbine housings as we all know. Even if this doesn't do much, I had them out anyways, so can't harm. Ideally one would port-match both the turbo and the manifold to the gasket size but I really didn't feel up to disassembling the turbine housings. Wrapped turbo outlet dumps in heat wrap band. Will do the frontpipe again as well as now the oil leak which promted me to tear apart half the engine in the first place is hopefully fixed. Fitted an ATI super damper to get rid of the worn old harmonic balancer. Surely one of the easiest and most worth to do mods. But torquing that ARP bolt to spec was a bitch without being able to lock the flywheel. Did some minor adjustments in the ECU tables to change some things I didn't like, like the launch control that was ALWAYS active. Treated rusty spots and surface corrosion on places I could get to and on many spots under the car, not pretty or ideal but good enough for now. Removed the N1 rear spats and the carbon surrounding for the tailpipe to put them back on with new adhesive as the old one was lifting in many spots, not pretty. Took out the passenger rear lamp housing... what do you know. Amateur work screwed me again here as they were glued in hard and removing it took a lot of force, so I broke one of the housing bolts off. And when removing the adhesive from the chassis the paint came right off too. Thankfully all the damaged area won't be visible later, but whoever did the very limited bodywork on this car needs to have their limbs chopped off piece by piece.   Quite a list if I do say so myself, but a lot of time was spent just discovering new shit that is wrong with the car and finding a solution or parts to fix it. My last problem that I now have the headache of dealing with is that the exhaust studs on the turbo outlets are M10x1.25 threaded, but the previous owner already put on regular M10 nuts so the threads are... weird. I only found this out the hard way. So now I will just try if I can in any way fit the front pipe regardless, if not I'll have to redo the studs with the turbos installed. Lesson learned for the future: Redo ALL studs you put your hands on, especially if they are old and the previous owners were inept maniacs. Thanks for reading if you did, will update when the engine runs again. Hope nothing breaks or leaks and I can do a test drive.

    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
    • I'm not going to recommend an EBC pad. I don't like them. Just about anything else would suit me better. I've been using Intima pads for a while now.
