well after completely f**king up the budget in getting Adelaide oval revamped, they need to recover the extra money spent somehow. To be totally honest this government is making things in this state worse and worse by the day, yet i don't f**king see the roads getting any better. Soon you will get fined for sneezing in the car. Arrrgh this state government is frustrating me every time they open their big flaps arrrgh

Oh come on man, Port Road is pretty good ey! I won't drive from Semaphore to the city on Port Road... totally f**ked.

Why would any politician want to oppose this legislation? When has one stood up and supported drivers? No and none; if it doesn't get through in its full form they will pass parts of it that will still affect drivers, us especially with modified cars.

All points to revenue raising for SA for failed projects, Desal, Hospital, Stadium... all projects that will (and have) blown out in cost because of the Governments incompetence. Same deal on national level with mining tax, carbon tax, etc....

...end rant :) (for now)

I reckon we need to organise a cruise and get the media involved to show them that we don't want this to pass and that we are just a bunch of car lovers and not hoons. You can go out and buy a pair of footy shorts and boots and go join a club and play anywhere anytime but we can't buy a good car, modify it and drive it without getting in shit for having a nice car. Don't know about anyone here but if i get defected for a blown globe or wiper blade i'll take it to court and fight for us import drivers. The only good thing in it , is that mechanics can fix and lift the defect.

If a cop says to me i have a tail light out, all i'll do is say thanks mate , give him a thumbs up and drive off.

and hope no one rolls their neighbour's S13 at that one

This is why i carry extra light bulbs in my car at all times, specially headlight bulbs because they are always going...

Also take it to court if you get defected for 'suspision of defect' and say the cop was an absolute arsehole, or film the whole thing on phone/camera and tell him this is being recorded due to me taking your arse to court and i want proof of your Incompetence!

And i dont know about this cruise thing working, just shows the government how many cars on our roads are actually defectable, due to 99% of cars on cruises are defectable, they'd just look at it like, "look at all that money we could be making off those people mwahaha".... bastards!!!

to tell thr truth, Id actually REALLY like to be a police officer.

I think I'd be a very decent officer of the law. Using discretion at all times.

having said that there is no way Id be accepted into the training, as without knees I cant run, cant kneel, am on medication & registered disabled.

going on from that, I cant even continue with my Uni degree as I failed the First Aid Certificate because I cant kneel down to perform CPR.

tbh life atm for me simply sucks :( not in a happy place atm.

with this potential new defect law, anyone who has a somewhat decent job should really push for a el-cheapo company car, and do away with your own personal registered car simply for the hassel sake. Lets face it, if you own an import and this proposal becomes law then you're going to cop a reaming at some stage......

so to all you good hard working souls out there.... start pushing for a company car; defect problem then isnt yours but your employers.

film a police officer carying out their duties, and tell them you are doing it?

lol try that and see where it gets you.

i think the person that wrote the article for adelaide now is loving how this has been blown way out of proportion and getting way more attention than it deserves thanks to them using the light bulb/wiperblade example.

if this gets passed it does not mean that cops are going to go out on a spree of handing out major defects for not having water in ur washer bottle. stuff will carry on as is and if you are unfortunate enough get defected there will be an expiation notice as well. It's pretty straight forward and to be honest im surprised the idea of having a mandatory fine attached to a defect has taken this long.

currently Police have the discretion to defect you, let you off or give you a fine for breaching vehicle standards... it is easier for them to fill out a defect notice than it is a fine, so i would expect that they arent too impressed about the extra work they would potentially be lumbered with

where do i apply for that job Craig ;)

so Carl this could work as a positive the lazier the officer they may not be bothered doing two lots of paperwork

remember people this has to be passed through state government first

Really looking forward to getting my brand new Toyota camry in July... Specially seeing as I don't have to

Pay a single dollar for anything :P

Hehe

enjoy it, its a peice of crap, I had one that the ECU failed on, 4 times, accelerated random, or not at all. then the brakes failed in the first 2 months.got it with 13 k's on it. returned in a year with 56,000 on it.

drivers flare off the dash, horrible steering, to think it was a toyota amazed me, on how poor it was .

time to move interstate, this place is a whole other country in itself. I left a long commment on the news about it.. hope they publish it

ADR no

ok I see your point, I had a brand new "GETZ" you knowwhere fast for a rental car once. I felt like it was chained to a house when I floored it and it was a stick shift too , and stopped by fred flintsone methods or bike coaster brakes.lol

you'll see the new model camry is a bad car .....mine was the 2.4 petrol . I know it suprised the head mech guy at CMI when we went for a drive in it. and it coasted in a round about with my foot floored way before the round about.

the list of things that are designed poor in that car is loing, fuel economy is great,

carry a towel in the car i f your drive in the outback at night, the radio doesn't dim, and is annoying as fark reflecting off the window and you'll need to toss it over the dash lights in the console

fly by wire throttle = fail, ECU controlled tranny= fail

and back on topic, this state needs some balls, who voted these tards in ? do they realize how much money gets dumped into cars, new and used in this town ?

I wish I had a electric car, so I could go thru the defect revenue trap without vasoline . so I could get a SUSPECTED DEFECT lol

the public needs to sting them, a car just from the show room floor defected ?? with video please

    • Update 3: Hi all It's been a while. Quite a lot of things happened in the meantime, among other things the car is (almost) back together and ready to be started again. Things that I fixed or changed: Full turbo removal, fitting back the OEM turbo oil hardlines. Had to do quite a bit of research and parts shopping to get every last piece that I need and make it work with the GT2860 turbos, but it does work and is not hard to do. Proves that the previous owner(s) just did not want to. While I was there I set the preload for the wastegates to 0,9bar to hopefully make it easier for the tuner to hit the 370hp I need for the legal inspections that will follow later on. Boost can always go up if necessary. Fitted a AN10 line from the catch can to the intake hose to make the catchcan and hopefully the cam covers a slight vacuum to have less restrictive oil returns from the head and not have mud build up as harshly in the lines and catch can. Removed the entire front interior just shy of the dashboard itself to clean up some of the absolutely horrendous wiring, (hopefully) fix the bumpy tacho and put in LED bulbs while I was there. Also put in bulbs where there was none before, like the airbag one. I also used that chance to remove the LED rpm gauge on the steering column, which was also wired in absolute horror show fashion. Moved the 4in1 Prosport gauge from sitting in front of the OEM oil pressure gauge to the center console vents, I used a 3D printed vent piece to hold that gauge there. The HKB steering wheel boss was likely on incorrectly as I sometimes noticed the indicator reset being uneven for left vs. right. In the meantime also installed an airbag delete resistor, as one should. Installed Cube Speed premium short shifter. Feels pretty nice, hope it'll work great too when I actually get to drive. Also put on a fancy Dragon Ball shift knob, cause why not. My buddy was kind enough to weld the rust hole in the back, it was basically rusted through in the lowermost corner of the passenger side trunk area where the wheel arch, trunk panel and rear quarter all meet. Obviously there is still a lot of crustiness in various areas but as long as it's not rusted out I'll just treat and isolate the corrosion and pretend it's not there. Also had to put down a new ground wire for the rear subframe as the original one was BARELY there. Probably a bit controversial depending on who you ask about this... but I ended up just covering the crack in the side of the engine block, the one above the oil feed, with JB Weld. I used a generous amount and roughed up the whole area with a Dremel before, so I hope this will hold the coolant where it should be for the foreseeable future. Did a cam cover gasket job as the half moons were a bit leaky, and there too one could see the people who worked on this car before me were absolute tools. The same half moons were probably used like 3 times without even cleaning the old RTV off. Dremeled out the inside of the flange where the turbine housing mates onto the exhaust manifolds so the diameter matches, as the OEM exhaust manifolds are even narrower than the turbine housings as we all know. Even if this doesn't do much, I had them out anyways, so can't harm. Ideally one would port-match both the turbo and the manifold to the gasket size but I really didn't feel up to disassembling the turbine housings. Wrapped turbo outlet dumps in heat wrap band. Will do the frontpipe again as well as now the oil leak which promted me to tear apart half the engine in the first place is hopefully fixed. Fitted an ATI super damper to get rid of the worn old harmonic balancer. Surely one of the easiest and most worth to do mods. But torquing that ARP bolt to spec was a bitch without being able to lock the flywheel. Did some minor adjustments in the ECU tables to change some things I didn't like, like the launch control that was ALWAYS active. Treated rusty spots and surface corrosion on places I could get to and on many spots under the car, not pretty or ideal but good enough for now. Removed the N1 rear spats and the carbon surrounding for the tailpipe to put them back on with new adhesive as the old one was lifting in many spots, not pretty. Took out the passenger rear lamp housing... what do you know. Amateur work screwed me again here as they were glued in hard and removing it took a lot of force, so I broke one of the housing bolts off. And when removing the adhesive from the chassis the paint came right off too. Thankfully all the damaged area won't be visible later, but whoever did the very limited bodywork on this car needs to have their limbs chopped off piece by piece.   Quite a list if I do say so myself, but a lot of time was spent just discovering new shit that is wrong with the car and finding a solution or parts to fix it. My last problem that I now have the headache of dealing with is that the exhaust studs on the turbo outlets are M10x1.25 threaded, but the previous owner already put on regular M10 nuts so the threads are... weird. I only found this out the hard way. So now I will just try if I can in any way fit the front pipe regardless, if not I'll have to redo the studs with the turbos installed. Lesson learned for the future: Redo ALL studs you put your hands on, especially if they are old and the previous owners were inept maniacs. Thanks for reading if you did, will update when the engine runs again. Hope nothing breaks or leaks and I can do a test drive.
    • No those pads are DBA too  but they have colors too. I look at the and imo the green "street" are the best.
    • I’m not sure what happened I told them about sonic tunes free OTS tune and the next the I know .. I was booted..   To funny
    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
