Hey guys, I'm looking at purchasing a Skyline. I used to own an R33 series 1 back in my late teens but had to sell it six or seven years ago when I got married. I'm in a situation at the moment where I won't be requiring my car to get to work anymore so want to sell my car and buy a new toy. My question is this: What should I buy? I cant make up my mind between an R34 GT-T or a V35 350 GT. I know I the best way to decide would be to test drive, but I'm just wondering what other peoples opinions are on the matter, especially in regards to performance, enhancement and road comfort. I'm looking to spend around 18k at the most. I have also considered a Supra as the twin turbo models 1994-1998 are quite affordable these days, but I prefer skylines ever since Gran Turismo back in 98 lol. Any opinions would be welcome. Thanks guys...

you'll struggle to get a decent, manual V35 350gt coupe for 18 grand.

You're always going to have divided opinions. The R34 is more strictly a performance car, whereas the V35 is more of a luxury car with a bit of punch.

Personally, I'd go for a tidy R34 GT-T. But both cars have merits. Probably shouldn't listen to me thought, since I own an R32 and a 350Z. I have the best of both worlds anyway.

buy a nissan and not a renault.. (those that get what I said will nod.)

the R series cars are nissan built/infuenced. the V series are nissan built renault influenced and have electrical niggles that will driver you batty. suggest you read the FAQ I work in the v series area.

lets see, get clean R34 for 15, spend 5k on mods and you have a weapon with parts that are cheap and plentiful

should you need them. Theres an endless supply of tech support and as stated they are not so full of electronic BS

or

Get V35 and be comfortable..

i know which Id choose :D

Haha cheers for the input guys. I would probably prefer a turbo over N/A so I'm kinda swinging the way of the R34 at the moment. Plus if I can pick one up cheap enough I might be able to do a few mods down the way... Just have to hide it form the missus...

A V35 to me is a luxo sports/cruiser car that can be left standard and still be cool whereas the R34 GTT is a sports car that needs money spent on it to go fast.

2 totaly different styles of cars.

Like comparing a Supra and a Soarer.

I may be wrong in your opinion but I dont care.

OP, what style of car you want ?

I like my boat !

    • It's funny, as Ive seen plenty of people use them in cheap builds on YT. And they actually go okay, even though a lot of other maxspeedingrods stuff is terrible. Those turbos seem reliable enough, the only part being, a good quality turbo that is "identical" to it, will out perform it day in and day out. In both a lower boost threshold, and the ability to flow more air at the same boost pressure. As a cheap cheap replacement, not a terrible choice. For cheap and shouldn't blow in a day, not terrible (like other eBay/Temu turbos) for low cost and still decent performance, that's where the question comes in to play from the results I've seen. I'd actually find it hilarious to buy one, and strap it to a paddock basher or some other cheap as POS originally NA car, and send it to the moon!
    • The maxpeedingrods turbo is cheap and bolts on to stock parts. I think you just need a bigger silicone coupler for the intake. Its a cheap china turbo, but it's been running on mine for almost 3 years at 16-19 psi.
    • What do they look like right after you've tried to start it with everything connected? Also post photos of what they actually look like.
    • Also wanted to say, my new spark plugs are blackened looks like it's very rich. I have splitfire coilpacks but stock coilpack loom and ignitor. I tried directly grounding the ignitor ground to body as well.
