Haven't posted here for a few weeks I sold my R32 gtst to another member (hope he's enjoying it)

So I bought a 98 s14a resprayed with only an exhaust boost controller aftermarket manifold and s15 turbo and side mount intercooler and coilovers

Dyno'd it on Saturday at boostech in fivedock it's doing 175rwkws at 10psi but its running very close to lean so I need to upgrade the injectors and grab a power fc so it can be tuned properly

I searched around the Nissansilvia forum but to be honest ( no offense to anyone whos on there) it's pretty boring

So is there much love here for the 200sx or am I gonna get bagged everytine I mention it?

Really I was just reading a thread about the difference between the 2 my mechanic has always tuned his cars and customer cars with the PFC so he was the one who told me to grab one I'm currently looking for one around the 700-800 mark

the difference between the 2 is minimal, but the nistune retains all the advantages of the stock ecu, such as using the knock sensors properly, rather than simply to give a readout, and more comprehensive cold start tunes, and the ability to view fault codes (not sure if the pfc can do this), etc. power wise they should both be the same. main advantage of the pfc is the hand controller, but from a data viewing point of view, you can get an ecutalk unit that will show a lot of data. it runs off the consult port.

Yeah go Nistune with the stock ECU you have. Your tuner shouldn't have a problem using it at all but best to find one who uses it regularly.

S14a huh, make sure you get some pineapples and strut bars. Those things are loose as a goose when stock. A turbo like the 2860 or 2871 is also a good idea if you can get one cheap.

SR20's are easy to tune.

My brother used to have a 99' ADM S14a with the S15 front (pic at the bottom). He was running a Jap spec S15 ball-bearing turbo, Nismo 550cc injectors, Apexi avcr, fmic, pod, turbo-back exhaust, PFC, custom diff (4.44 im sure) (prob a few other things im missing) and it was making about 330rwhp on a safe tune. Don't need to spend much to get them into the mid-low 12sec range.

Nistune is good, as it refines you stock ECU.

PFC, I think would allow you to be more in depth as in if you are savvy enough to tune it yourself with the hand controller.

+ It gives you the ability to cycle through the ECU and see it for yourself.

I would consider a front mount intercooler if I had a S14A, but that's just me.

Hah! Yeah I am on NS, it's quite funny actually.

The PFC allows access for many more parameters to fine tune I always thought. From my experience the stock s15 turbo is good for around 185-190rwkw depending on dyno (with injectors, fuel pump, FMIC and ecu tune). For an extra 15rwkw I don't think its worth it. Get a larger turbo (then your in 220rwk+ range and worth it then. ps try melbs15 forums. There is a lot of activity there and they seem to be a friendly bunch. You will also find many people selling cheap parts eg PFC, boost controllers etc. Good luck and enjoy the car.

Still, he would have to get upgraded injectors, fuel pump, FMIC and ecu tune, yeah..?

Or how much can the stock parts handle until upgrade is needed?

I already need to upgrade the injectors to atleast JDM s15 items as the s14 ones were maxing out on the dyno

Plus an FMIC is next on the list

My only problem with the nistune is installing it I looked on the site last night

I have a first level degree in electrotechnolgy and I used to solder my on guitar cables and pickups, but I'm a bit scared to stuff around soldering things onto my ECU

Nice s14, after I'm done with the power I would love to do an S15 front conversion but the head lights are so expesive, if I'd bought a series 1 I would defiantly do it but the s14a has a decent looking front as it is

All good then and yes, a FMIC will do you good.

Yeah, I'd leave the ECU to the mechanic...

In the mean time, solder some humbuckers on your guitar and get some mad 'Chug Chug' and Shred going in the Heavy Metal Music Thread \m/

Lol nah no more guitar cars put a stop to my playing days been in heaps of bands one of them was playing a club gig every weekend fir a year but I haven't picked up a guitar in 3 years

I'm pretty happy with the power I'm getting from the 200sx ATM it's faster than my r32 was

Would a fpr be a good idea for the mean time to bring the air/fuel ratio back down to acceptable levels without needing a new ecu?

the best bet would be to see what the actual cause of the car leaning out is. it would be worth getting yourself a consult cable to check the injector percentages. it may well be that it is the fuel pump the issue and not the injectors (although i wouldn't be suprised if it was injectors). or in the short term you could try getting the injectors professionally cleaned. most likely they will be at least a little bit blocked, so you should see at least a small gain in the amount of fuel they can deliver.

as for the PFC being able to adjust more parameters, well yes and no. the nistune has a much more indepth mapping system (even if they have less map resolution). all up the nistune has something like 10 or 15 different maps which all interact with each other to a certain extent. the pfc has 2. 1 for ignition, 1 for fuel.

Ok cheers I'll get my mechanic to check that out

While he had it on the dyno he got it up to 170rwkw with the mods I have listed and the afr was reading 13.4 as soon as he saw this each time he back off the throttle

for 10psi boost the injectors if working properly should not be maxed correct?

well at 10psi they shouldn't but at around 170kw they would be getting up there a bit. my mate was running 15psi on his s13 (with the t25 turbo) and it was fine, and his missus had a s15 turbo on her 180sx. it was running 15psi with no fuel issues. my old 180sx was running 15psi on the stock turbo making around 170kw and it wasn't maxing out the injectors, however the first time it was put on the dyno it was leaning out and only made 135kw (before they backed off). a new fuel pump solved the problem.

So I could have fuel pump issue or possible blocked injectors?

I might have to get him to check that before I spend over 2000 bucks on upgrading the injectors and ecu as I don't have that money lying around and I'm quite happy with 170rwkw for the time being

I love silvias but if i had one again, first thing id do is put some rocker stoppers in (cheap mod to prevent your rocker arms cracking off)....yes this happened to me; put my foot down once one night and pop (took the camshafts with them too)

    • An update regarding the registration with the DVLA I sent off the paperwork the day after I collected the car from the port, two weeks later it was all returned with a letter explaining they have rejected the application. This was because the cheque was £20 short for the road tax (I used a price list I found online). Nevermind it is what it is, it was sent back to them the following day with a new cheque. Fast forward another 2 weeks or so, I called them for an update to be told it had been rejected. Yesterday (16th September) I received the documents back along with another letter, this time it was because I didn't put an X in one box on the V750 (personalised number plate certificate), which declared that I had the rights to the personalised number plate. Why this wasn't mentioned in the first rejection letter, I don't know, but it could have saved this headache. The documents were sent back today, so fingers crossed third times a charm and it'll FINALLY be registered on the road just in time for the bad weather (woohoo!) To cheer myself up I lowered the front 25mm, was sick of seeing it sit like a monster truck. No idea how much clearance I'll have getting on and off the driveway, I'll worry about that when I can actually drive it

    • A few little updates that weren't filmed due to not taking long to do or not interesting enough for their own video. My new K&N Air Filter arrived, I went with an RU-4180 which matched the dimensions of the universal cone filter the car originally had.  The battery had gone flat, while that was charging I tidied up the spaghetti wiring at the bulk head and down the sides of the engine Next job was to swap the stereo The Kenwood harness had the female ISO plugs cut off and the male ISO plugs cut off the adaptor loom and joined with bullet connectors. I ordered in a repair loom through work and re-did it all. New Kenwood unit installed (Android Auto, DAB, Bluetooth, Reverse Camera) The bonnet/hood gas struts have been poor since collecting the car. I couldn't find any suitable replacements locally so took a chance on a pair from AliExpress.  The originals don't use a retaining clip to secure the cup onto the ball fixture, would explain why I struggled for 10-15mins trying to pry off the cups. The ball fixtures unscrew using a 12mm spanner, new ones are the same size. Sadly no photo of them fitted, you're not missing much lol The dished Momo steering wheel got replaced with my Momo Tuner, turns out I ordered counter sunk bolts for the horn trim ring (like they normally are for the steering wheel) instead of allen cap (flat seat)  A terrible photo of a Quaife style gear shift knob I've had stashed in my tool box for many years after purchasing the incorrect thread size (I can see a pattern emerging with ordering incorrect parts...) Also threw in a cup holder and a (empty) Boss Coffee can, because why not
