Gday Fellas

Ive been looking alot more seriously lately at getting my hands on one of these beasts

for those of you who i havent had a chance to chat to im looking at the M35's

as ive been looking i began to think of possibly going through the import process

ive come to you guys to see what your thoughts are in comparison to buying one already ashore

id love to know how the prices and hastle stack up aswell...

i just rekon the love of the import would make you appreciate it soo much more once you find.. "the one" lol..

anyway.. give me your ideas and thoughts ( especially in regards to price and hastles etc etc )

Jetwreck has a good one for sale, depends on what you want.

I knew which options I wanted, and was looking at importing one, but then I found one for sale which was already imported. I was still the first Aus owner, but I didn't have the Jap hassles.

Also depends how fussy you are :P

So you want an N/A M35? Theres only one option then; a Series 2 PNM35 from Northshore. Pretty sure you cant import and comply one yourself, they're the only people with the relevant credentials to comply them in the country.

yeh ive heard that... i think im going to have to go and have a talk with those blokes from northshore

i wouldnt mind the PNM35 axis..the interiors on those look soooo stunning!

Northshore are the best place to go for M35's in Aus, I've not heard a bad word about them. If I'd decided to go for an M35, that's more than likely where I would have gotten one from. If you want to import go to Kristian from Iron Chef Imports. I got my C34 through him, and he was fantastic to deal with.

Someone else may know better, but to the best of my knowledge you cant private import a PNM35 and get Northshore to comply it - they just wont do it.

As for the rules of what P platers can/cant drive.. theyve never made sense :P

so yes... apparently they will allow you to drive he PNM35 haha... thats what drew me to the stagea in the first place

i was looking for a wagon first of all, to have my road bike in when i go on tours (cycling)

and also somthing with a little grunt.. the stagea was the only way to go haha...

probably one of the only turbos im allowed (legally that is)... one year of greens left..

If it was me, I'd risk it for just a year to get the car you want. They hardliy give you a second look, if you behave yourself that is :whistling: .

Some of the cars I see driving around with RED & green P's are obviously illegal (huge FMICs, BOV's venting to atmosphere, looooowwww suspension etc etc) & they seem to get away with it.

However, if you take a while to find the right car you could find you won't have an issue for very long at all....

What a joke. Two cars, same power, weight and drive, one legal one not. Surely they have some back door to cover themselves there, so they can claim to have banned all M35s?

If Northsore are the only guys complying the PM35 I doubt very much they would comply it for you if you bring it over yourself. Bit of a sh*t thing if that's what they would do but I suppose they are just keeping a strangle hold on the evidence to make the outlay getting it worth while.

i may not even end up going for the PM35.. might just go for the high end axis or... yeh... who knows haha

So when was the last time you gave $30'000 away to a stranger?

The cost of getting evidence is very high ($30'000) and that is the test is successful...... personally I am happy that someone was prepared to put their money at risk to get the PM's.

As I said, I understand why they do it. But why can't they comply a PM for someone that buys a car in Japan themselves. I would imagine they would/could charge $3500-4000 for compliance. This gets the 30k back pretty quick. That's a nice premium over the $2500 usually charged for compliance on an nm35. This would still allow you to bring one over cheaper than what you could buy in a yard. The big part of them not doing it would be missing out on the easy 4k profit on the car, plus profit on the cost of compliance they would make by selling you one from their yard.

This is the point I'm making!!!

Who says they don't? AFAIK no one has asked Northshore to comply a car imported through someone else. They might do exactly what you suggest.

It's also their reputation though, if it was my business I wouldn't want someone importing a dog then telling all their mates that my business did the compliance, or worse, "I got it through XX".

Remember that $4k profit on the car also covers the time necessary to find a nice, clean car, verify everything, service it, etc.

I bought my car from Northshore, and yes I probably could have saved some money buying direct from Japan, but in the end it suited me at the time. They had exactly what I wanted, in stock, at what I thought was a reasonable price. Ben bent over backwards to help me out, and I was a pain in the arse, having never bought a car from interstate before. It was easy for me, and I was prepared to pay for the convenience. At the end of the day my time is worth something, and I couldn't be happier with the result!

    • I don't know it is due to that. It could just be due to load on track being more than a dyno. But it would be nice to rule it out. We're talking a fraction of a second of pulling ~1 degree of timing. So it's not a lot, but I'd rather it be 0... Thicker oil isn't really a "bandaid" if it's oil that is going to run at 125C, is it? It will be thicker at 100 and thus at 125, where the 40 weight may not be as thick as one may like for that use. I already have a big pump that has been ported. They (They in this instance being the guy that built my heads) port them so they flow more at lower RPM but have a bypass spring that I believe is ~70psi. I have seen 70psi of oil pressure up top in the past, before I knew I had this leak. I have a 25 row oil cooler that takes up all the space in the driver side guard. It is interesting that GM themselves recommend 0-30 oil for their Vette applications. Unless you take it to the track where the official word is to put 20-50w oil in there, then take that back out after your track day is done and return to 0-30.

    • I take it that the knock retard is from bearings tapping a little tune? Thicker oil is a fragile bandaid. You need a much bigger oil cooler and probably the bigger pump being discussed.
    • Hi @Chupapy i had several leaks from coolant pipes being corroded, i also had one leak on back of the head onto transmission. For me that leak was from the turbo water line. Follow the line to the back of the head The hose and metal pipe had perished these are the best pics I took of it at the time
