Hello I know i am probably testing peoples patience here but as there is no ideal solution to the Nav/Media player option I was just wondering what option people actually go for?

Has anyone bothered changing the Japanese buttons?

Has anyone bothered putting up the money to get the Sat Nav?

What is the Ipod connectivity like?

This one is for sale in Perth. Looks like he went the whole way and change practically everything to english......and is now selling it......bit of a waste of time and money.......You can see from his asking price that it obviously cost him an arm and a leg (and possibly his left nut). He was asking more at one stage I think, its been for sale for a few weeks.

My car is currently on a boat from Brisbane to Perth so I dont have any first hand experience, but my plan is to look at hooking either an Iphone (which has been done before) or and Ipad 2 (dont know if this has been done, dont know if it will even work) via the AV cables (will be picking both of these up in Hong Kong in a few weeks, Ipad2 is $200 cheaper ex Apple Store Hong Kong, we really get bent over here in Aus). I have played around with a couple of the sat nav apps and whilst not perfect (what sat nav is???), for the price its a pretty awesome option. Plus you can then basically run any app through the main screen and even surf the net etc etc. Keeping in mind that I will need to figure out some sort of stand for the device for when the Missus isnt sitting next to me to control it.

The above option is obviously going to handle the ipod issues but I think there is also a pretty simple cable for sale that lets you hook the Ipod up through the centre console and control it through the steering wheel. I will also burn a mountain of 50c CD's and copy my 4000 song itunes library to the Music Box anyway. Actually by the time I go through the thing and ditch all of the crap it will be more like 2000 songs......if that.

I have seen buttons for sale from the US, not cheap and once everything is setup most options can be controlled via the steering wheel anyway. No real point spending the money for my own use, but when I go to sell it in a couple of years it might be worth considering.

This seems to be the only real BUDGET solution available, anything else will require a trip to a car audio expert which will again involve big $$$. If I lived on the east coast then having the sat nav converted would mean a lot more to me, but here in Perth, if you manage to get REALLY lost, theres something wrong with your head. Probably why I bought the missus a sat nav.....................thank god she wont read that!

I did that car. thought I recognised it.. I will not disclose what it cost to do it but that was one car that was a LOT easier to do that what most of you have.

Sounds like we are in a very simular boat. I have the exact same car as you coming on a vessel from Brisbane to Perth as we speak.

SAT NAV isnt a big thing for me either as Perth is yeah a pretty easy place to navigate. It was more for playing music off my iphone. Unsure weather to use the music box. Does the quality differ from the music box to using an ipod?

Where have you seen the buttons for sale? What are you doing in regards to radio?

duuno what you are thinking but the 2008 up spec cars didn't support ipod.

the one in the for sale advert DID support it.

buttons - I have them. cost - not cheap. radio us usually a band expander. should have mentioned it to RAWS/TGI when it was here and I would have tossed one in.

Bugger, oh well, guess I will definitely be burning CD's then, or using bluetooth. Chris, what format does the music box burn to? I hope that it doesnt compress the files and therefore lower quality. Ipods not that popular in Japan or is there another reason they took away support?

WA-CVK, I know exactly which car yours is, you got it through Geoff @ Prestige, was on the same boat from Japan as mine, was at the same compliance centre at the same time as mine (Bruce said that they both looked practically new) and is now probably on the same boat as mine to Perth lol. Only difference is that you didnt get the FM expander put in at the same time!!! *Face Slap!

Chris, I think that my FM expander came from someone else, a new plug in version, sorry if you lost the business. Hopefully it is decent or I will be pissed that they didnt just go for your version. i only really got the FM expander for the missus and for resale, I would rather sing to myself than listen to the s&%t on the radio these days. I cant ever remember the electric aerial on my RX7 going up. It would completely mess up the balance and aerodynamics of the car as well :P I am pretty sure that you will find someone here in Perth that can put one in for you.

CVK, It was an awesome time to buy, just after the earthquake/tsunami :) (Sorry Japan), from what I have been seeing them sell for recently, we both got an AWESOME deal! You must be dieing to drive it by now, you bought yours a week or two before mine and have been delayed on shipping twice. one advantage you have is that you will probably be in Perth when it gets here, I'm going on holiday overseas tomorrow for two weeks. Good thing to come back to though.

When I get back we will have to catch up for a cruise.

havnt looked at what they are selling for now but I was very chuffed with the deal. Geoffs a good man too.

Just sold my old car on Monday so yeah cant wait. I'm guessing next monday is when it will be all registered and good to go :)

I was told by a friend that autotainment can put one in but undecided at the moment. Seems that bluetooth with the iphone is the best way to go for music. But its hard to judge without seeing it for myself.

The entertainment options in the console is easy to use without any conversions. You can rip your CD's onto the hard drive and you also have a Compact Flash card slot for all your mp3's. No need for bluetooth unless you purchase all your music from itunes.

As for the GPS if you are prepared to spend big money now you might as well wait until Infiniti releases the car in OZ next year and then get a proper full conversion done. I'm sure there will be a way then.

Also, my advice once you get the car don't play with the GPS buttons you might activate it and it will keep on speaking Japanese, it was entertaining for the first 10 minutes but after a few days you go crazy. Took me a while to learn how to turn off the voice.

yeh as i dont have the car yet its hard to gauge what its like. Think i will just go with the music box option. No biggy.

Cheers for the advice everyone. Really appreciated.

Hahaha ill stay well clear of the GPS for now.

My 08 370GT SP reads SanDisk Extreme 16GB CompactFlash Card (100MB/s) with 12GB of MP3's perfect, I have 3400 MP3's on the card. the entire list of folders is readable. I know it will read a 32GB too!

    • Gday Thought it was about time I started a build thread! As expected this project has snowballed into a huge financial liability, but unless you’re strong willed and responsible, it’s not a surprise. Background -  My first turbo car was an R32 GTS-4, got my full license and then totalled my Au Falcon a week later, so while trying to sell my RMZ450 dirtbike to buy another car a bloke offered to swap the R32 which at the time I felt like I was ripped off but looking back and seeing prices of those now ($40kish) it was a good deal, I didn’t know enough about these cars to appreciate what I had so sold it before the RB20 blew up. Between here and there, out of 12 cars I’ve owned the note worthy ones are a V8 Lexus SC400 (soarer), a couple of XR6 Turbos and my beloved S15 which I had for about 3 years, picked it up for $12500, repairable write off but she was fine, gun metal grey/pewter and bone stock/unmolested until I got my hands on it. Ended up spending about the value of the car and 280kw, 2 demerit points by the time I got defected and sold it for $14500 (also $40kish in today’s market, rip) Fast forward to the present day, I’m in a much better position financially and daily an MQ Triton (great cars, pipe down Ranger Bois), I cruised marketplace and car sales for a few months looking for another R32, the best deal I could find was an absolute rust bucket half finished project for $12000, until this R33 popped up in Port Macquarie for $18k - unregistered and barely running but decent shape, kept an eye on it for a few weeks and the price steadily dropped, $16k then $15k then $14k, that was the point where I was like shit someone’s gonna snatch this up! It was owned by a young bloke who had big plans but him and his missus just had a baby so smartest move financially for them but big gain for me. So 2 days later I’m towing a car trailer to pick this thing up. Roughly 2 weeks and $3500 later I’m cruising around Newcastle in my beat up R33 all smiles and dose noises! It only needed some basic shit to get it going, coil packs and air flow meter, electrical stuff and all fluids changed, 158k kms and running pretty good, nice smooth engine after oil and coolant flush - when I say coolant I mean it had been filled up with tap water, every gallery and heater element was filled with rust, 8-9 flushes later and still had brown liquid coming out but she’ll be right. The car was painted R34 Bayside Blue at some point but whether it was a cheap job or just not looked after is anyone’s guess, clear coat flaking like sausage roll.  Was rethinking my choices and contemplating life, had it up for sale for $22k - still cheaper than any registered R33 but got little interest, next minute I had an opportunity at work - 6 months overseas for good money, so that was a no brainer, fast forward again and here we are with a 50% finished project. Current Mods - 200ish KW according to butt dyno Was tuned with Apexi PowerFC EBC (old school Greddy Profec)  Stock turbo (more shaft play than a Tinder date gone right) 3inch turbo back Varex muffler  Aftermarket injectors of mystery size, Power FC showed 36% duty cycle at full boost so not behd good size Someone had good intentions but stuck with the stock R33 MAF so we had misfires at 6000rpm due to the MAF hitting 5.2V So far I’ve redone the entire interior with carpet form Car Mats Direct, new Seats and steering wheel from Autotechnica, also sound system by Autobarn (mainly Kicker) Also MCA pro comfort coil overs - Hands down best purchase yet, worlds of improvement over the tired 30yrold shocks Goals - 450kw/600hp on flex tune New paint job - Midnight Purple 2 Engine is at the shop getting rebuilt with forged rods a pistons, new valves and springs, ATI Harmonic balancer, Aeroflow 7.5L sump, rear head drain and oil restrictors as per oil control thread* and cam covers modded for larger breathers, other stuff I can’t recall of the top of my head Parts purchased and to be installed once the engine is done -  Engine loom from Wiring Specialties including these options: Haltech Nexus S3 R35 Coil pack conversion  PRP Dual Trigger kit Fan controller  Other Parts -  262 Kelford Cams Turbo - Hypergear ATR43SS3-ProS with T51R mod (whistly boi) 6 boost manifold (high mount) 50mm Turbosmart Pro gate (plumbed back for legal reasons) HKS Super Turbo Exhaust with High Flow Cat Custom 3.5inch dump and front pipe 1500cc Bosch injectors  Fuel Pump walbro 525 Haltech MAP and IAT sensors Haltech Flex Sensor Fenix Radiator with dual thermo fans LS1 Alternator Kit Oil Filter Relocation from EFI solutions and Cooling pro oil cooler Many other things sitting in my garage waiting for that engine to come back. Progress pics to follow -
    • Losses have to be less with DC coupling. Provided the battery inverter has decent MPP tracking ability - which really shouldn't be a problem. It's not 2005 any more.
    • Hi, Will the R33 GTR rear brake backing plates fit a GTST? I'm struggling to find GTST ones but can find new GTR ones.   Thanks.
    • I also got the same floor mats for a bit of extra bazzaz haha
    • Some more close up pics now that I’m back to working on the car, the loop pile is nice but again haven’t compared it to the other types in person, it’s hard to tell from the pics on the website. View of the hemming on the edges too, it comes in 2 pieces - front and back, honestly very happy with it for anyone on the fence.  Also attached my previous pics from further up as it didn’t let me post them directly before. (Nothing worse than photo bucket pics that aren’t hosted anymore years later)
