Hey guys, did a bit of searching but didn't quite find my answer....soo...

R33 gts4 was originally N/A, have turbo converted it (rb25det off stagea) and been since running about 190kwatw for just under 2yrs now, gearbox still feels fine but I'm now looking to upgrade to a hiflow and aim for 250kwatw.

Has any gts4 owners reached around that power vicinity and still running strong? Did read some where that their stronger than normal N/A boxes but not as tough as s2 gtst and GTR boxes.

Any ideas or advice much welcomed! =D

Anyone who tells you the GTS4 box is not as strong as a GTST box is talking out their arse.

We run around 550rwhp on one. Have run 600+ hp on them as well. The only thing that kills them is age. IF the synchros are crunchy and it feels sloppy and old, get it rebuilt as the shift clips like to jump out when the synchros get thin.

250rwkw is absolutely nothing for one of these BUT, like any gearbox, if you mistreat it and it's old, it can and will break eventually....not from HP though

does this count for the R32 boxes? mine is going to cop a tidyup anyway.

lol. I thought it was a trap.

If you say GTR/GTST = same then yes, GTR/NA R33 GTS4 = same

The ratios are different = quicker acceleration. Eveything else is the same

:merli:

Just trying to workout whats in em, if its just ratios then all good.

Thanks for replies guys!, looks like i won't have upgrade gearbox after all :D.

The thing that still gets me though is why would nissan put such a strong box into a weak N/A lol

To save making 2 different boxes with transfer case attached.

What I know: R34 25DET has FS5R30A box as does 33GTR and 32 GTR

RB20s had FS5W71C

So if your GTS4 has a FS5R30A you should be sweet.

that answers my question then. mine has that box in it.

dan,

not yet. have a few of them. been mixing them into various nissan orders. I may get you to drop that gearset into another (later) case.

What about the factory 33gts4 diff? did that hold up ok as well? or did you replace it?

We have a complete NA R33 GTS4 drivetrain in Gervase's R33GTR and haven't broken it yet. He's done several 9000rpm launches on semi slicks without problems. He is experienced at driving the car though and has never really broken anything except an Exedy twin plate clutch and a Direct clutches twin (exedy one rebuilt)

Now with the single plate NPC in there we have no problems so far.

Also all our stuff is cryo treated. Definitely worth while getting this done if you want to put anywhere over 450hp at the wheels through it all
