INSURANCE + A CAR ALARM + KILL SWITCH(S) + STEERING WHEEL LOCKER+ AS MUCH SHIT TO SLOW THIEVES DOWN!

This year there has been close to 40 imports (mainly skylines) go missing in the brisbane to gold coast area (that have been reported on the forums!!) and most of them havent had any anti theft installed or insurance!. Of that about 2% have been returned unscathed, the rest have either turned up as smoldering wreck or in some scumbags shed stripped.

Want yours to be next? Dont do any thing to make sure your import is safe and you too can feel the frustration as some drug addict is stripping your 'girl' to pieces while you have no car for work and the police are too busy reloading their speed cameras to care.

At the rate theyre disappearing I thought someone should make a post, as its clear people dont know whats going on or have the "it wont happen to me" attitude.

Also if you have mates that dont frequent the forums and have an import tell them the above! Lets not give these losers any more money!!!!

Anyone else want to chime in and say something useful go for it.

+1 to this! I know guys that have started taking their steering wheels with them when they park the car somewhere a little dodgey.

3 point imobiliser, alarm and kill switches were the first things I did to the car when I got it. They went in the day after I picked the car up. When I ran a pub in Inala I parked the car in plain view, well lit area and it sat under a CCTV camera. The tech used to protect the car is part of it, being smart about how and where you leave it is just as, if not more important.

I am in shock at the amount of people who have NO insurance because they cant afford it but have just bought a new set of wheels or rebuilt engine etc etc.

I got a quote from Just car and for my car for the bare minimum ( 3rd party, fire and theft) was a grand total of $288 per year!

People need to get there priorities straight and insure the bloody things. If you cant afford it then dont buy it.

I am in the process of upgrading all my security on my car to make me feel a little bit better, but then i dont park my car where i cant either see it or at least hear it.

The only way this influx of stolen cars will stop is when we make it harder to take them.

Also if you have a feeling parts are hot DONT BUY IT. That " too good to be true" deal often is and you are making sure these thieving scum keep at it.

Most of it is basic common sense..... Theres exceptional ciscumstances where poeples houses have been broken into and thats just shit, but i rekcon 90% of these thefts could have been avoided.

this is true.

so many people dont have insurance or adequate alarms.

also - as much as losing your car would be bad - im amazed at the amount of cars i see with gps - ipods, iphones - phones in general - laptops etc just sitting in cars in plain view (like in shopping centre car parks etc) its common sense but dont tempt anyone - having a thief in your car stealing your shit still leaves the proverbial 'sour' taste in your mouth, let alone someone stealing the car..

shame on these people domokun.gif

Ok so basic rundown list for anti theft should go...

  • Full comp insurance
  • 3 point immobiliser/alarm
  • Steering wheel club lock
  • GPS tracker

I'm pretty sure your insurance premium should be down aswell with a decent alarm/ immobiliser setup. Not sure about the other deterrents.

Budget method:

  • Killswitches
  • Remove ecu upon exiting
  • Remove steering wheel ditto

I reckon everyone should have a gps tracker though, if they decide to use a truck to 'pick up'

add this to budget methods

pasted from my stolen skylines thread.

"An old computer technician told me what he used to do in Melbourne to stop theft.

Only if your car is auto.

Using the wire that prevents you to start your car in reverse. set a key activated switch up to it in series to all other gears.

So you turn the key when you leave your car and take the key with you.

Obviously hide it in a good hiding place.

And yeah car won't start.

Nifty old trick."

sounds nifty.

When i jumped into a convo with chris and someone else last week, the general theme of it was "it might stop joyriders but if someone really wants your car it's gone, all you can do is make it more difficult for them"

Sadly I agree with this. Can only prepare for the worst by doing all you can to prevent and making sure your insurance is up to date and you're know what you're going to get out of it (agreed value) if the car does get stolen :(

Also if you have a Pfc you can adjust your rev limit to 200, then remove the hand controller when you leave

Dude have you actually tried doing that? I takes forever - then you have to sit there getting it back up from 200 before you can drive. lol

Its a good idea in theory though.

I'm unhappy with the level of security that I've put in place on my car. So, I need to get a decent alarm still, and install a kill switch on it. I currently use a club lock when I park in questionable locations, and have full comp insurance.

I was thinking, do you think we could organise a group buy and installation for the SAU forums? The theft is rampant at the moment, and maybe providing some incentive to members is in order? I don't mind organising something like this, but I need suggestions on what shops to approach. If we get 10-20 cars, to be put in over a period of a few weeks, with money up front or something, I'm sure someone would be willing to do us a good deal.

Another think you can do is remove your fuel pump fuse from your footwell before you vacate your vehicle.

    • When you crank your car, and hit it with a timing light, can you see a steady crank timing?
    • Oh, forgot to add, A few months ago I was getting mixture codes and the car was using crap loads of fuel. You could smell the unburned fuel in the exhaust, it was crazy strong. Economy was over 17.5 l/100 and usually around 19. I smoked the engine and found a leaky CCV hose which I replaced and then I replaced my two pre cat O2 sensors, I also replaced the MAF. This fixed my mixture codes and improved my exonomy but I'm still 14 - 15 l/100 when pottering about town so something is still amiss. Throttle response is much better and it has more pep but I'd like to know why it's still so thirsty (and I'm hoping that whatever it is gives me a bit more poke).
    • Car is on factory injectors/z32 maf/ q45 throttle body/ z32 ecu with nistune
    • Hello all, currently finishing up a rb25 swap into my s14. Having issues with starting, car has spark (confirmed by pulling a plug and watching it spark), has fuel(confirmed by checking pulse/voltage at injectors all spark plugs are soaked in fuel). Car cranks over and pops into the exhaust with a heavy fuel smell but no attempt to start or run, I have torn the timing cover off and triple confirmed timing, turned the CAS in multiple spots both directions, attempted to start with coolant temp and maf unplugged, checked my fuel lines and made sure they weren’t backwards, checked voltage at cas/injectors/coilpacks, made sure all the grounds in the harness are connected and added a few grounding straps (1 from chassis to block, 1 from chassis to head, and 1 from chassis to igniter chip) I am getting stumped here. As a last ditch effort I made a full grounding harness tonight that’s going to run from the battery and add an extra ground from the battery onto the coil pack harness/igniter chip/ intake manifold/ Wiring specialties harness ground/ and alternator. I’m hoping maybe the grounding harness will fix it here but posting here to see if anyone has any other ideas on what else I can check. My fuel pressure is unknown right gauge will be here tomorrow.  IMG_3206.mov
    • yeah I was shocked when I checked my spare OEM on and as below that's how they come from Nissan. (side interesting note new NEO gearbox and replacement park lack the brass bush on the tips and its just all alloy) unsure about damage to the box currently back at 1110 to be pulled down/inspected and selector fork replaced as he built it previously and given the never before seen failure on his billet forks he is replacing it under warranty. He said he has used always OEM the keyway tab without issue for years so it could be an unlucky coincidence. I did talk to him about the sharp corners and stress concentration too. Re: hard shifts i got 7+ years out of the OEM one and the fork itself failed not the keyway. so could be bad luck as I said or an age thing + heat cycles in box and during fabrication of billet?
