I think I might end up pussying out, rather than buying a car like that and leaving it abandoned because I can't afford to get it fixed every once in a while. I wanted a fast car that I wouldn't have to spend much on to make it fast (illegal), and with it being reliable. A GTR is fast out of factory, but the reliability, and my lack of knowledge about cars would kill me. Maybe an XR6T with mild mods will have to do :glare:

Appreciate the time and effort some of you blokes put in, would have definitely saved me a few dollars here. Cheers again :D

Get an evo 6 or 7 or a bug eye sti or a wrx over the dam dad in middle age crisis that thinks his cool with his family sedan cuz its got a turbo lol. Evos are I think what you would be looking at and having fun in the most for what you seem to be wanting to do with the car

Mehh. Evo's do nothing for me unless it's the Evo VIII or IX, and they're out of my budget. Rexy does nothing for me, unless it's the classic rexy shape in an STI, and they're too old to be spending money on just because "it'll have to do". I'd honestly rather the "dad in middle age crisis that thinks his cool with his family sedan cuz its got a turbo" :P

I dunno guys. The R32 GTR and the S8 RX7 were always my favorite cars, one's engine and reliability issues scares me a little more than the other, and buying my first house 10 months ago, mixed with the fact that I'm paying it off by myself (mrs is studying) while planning to get married to my mrs in under a year or so, I think either of them would be a silly move. I'll probably end up driving a buzzbox for a few months and hit something up at the auctions with a bit of balls.

Unfortunately, I think that's the way it's panning out for me. I don't want a car where I'm constantly spending money on to bring it back to par. I don't mind spending money to do it up, but I cbf spending money to make it "normal again". I wanted a fast car out of factory so it isn't cop bait, which is why I wanted a stock'ish GTR, but ahh well.

Cheers again

Just wondering if this idea would spur ur interest: I met a guy once who wanted an r32 gtr but he was concerned about the age of components so what he did was buy an rb26 from an r33 gtr and freshened it up.

he bought his gtr a few months later (nice clean one too) and swapped in the fresh engine and sold the stocker.

IT worked out well for him cos he had his dream car with a new motor and box

*Yes i made this story up but the idea sounds good dosent it? that way you can have the major components and save money, then make some back when you sell the stocker

all the best mate and remember, stick to your dreams and dont back down cos you will be dissappointed if you settle

True, but OP could just drive a shirtbox for another year (so no XR6T) and save up some more in the meantime. That way you don't have to risk the dream becoming a nightmare.

Threads like this pop up all the time and in this case it's clear the OP has made the smart choice, leave the 32 for someone else.

I'm amazed how it's always engine and driveline that gets the replies, apparently no-one notices the general wear and tear on a 20+ year old car.

Replacing those items is way up there with an engine rebuild, if you want it to look new again.

Door rubbers, glass rubbers, DASH, door cards, seats, engine bay hoses, various clips, wheel bearings, suspension components and a thousand more...........

That's presuming it hasn't been molested by some previous owner who thought he knew more than Nissan.

This stuff that costs real money as you have 2-choices, genuine or 2nd hand and good luck sourcing as-new condition 20 year old components.

Then there's the rust worry and anyone who knows where to look will find rust (or where it was) somewhere on a 32.

If you're in love with an original 32 GTR, prepare for a long search and a high price tag.

For starters read Chris's project build.

Thanks for the serious yet informative reply jiffo, well said. To the other guy, I have a TX3 as a daily buzzbox, gets me to work and back I guess. I might save up a little longer

And to the OTHER other guy, my GTST was fun, but I won't get that again. Like my S15, the power was only at the rear wheels and fun, but dangerous. And on top of that, was cop bait with the mods it had, and it wasn't close to the power of a GTR. Pointless, considering I have more money now than back then while I was at uni

    • Unsolicited advice? Keep the engine as close to stock as you can. Nothing wrong with adding some boost and making a little more power, but given where you are, you really don't want to try to make it into a monster. I can't imagine the roads are up to it, and the lack of locla support when it grenades will be a ball ache. FWIW, If there is a dyno around that you can access, then brand new injectors are a good idea, which will lead you to (at least) putting a Nistune in it, which will allow you to put an R35 AFM on it, all of which will make it possible to make it much much nicer to drive and live with.
    • List all of your mods. It sounds like an aftermarket ECU hitting rev limiter. Like a valet mode, or a cold rpm limiter?
    • @Kapr Haha yeah thats the one. I missed that you had a built up engine, I wouldn't want to run it on there either then. It was good in my situation just to replace the original turbo on a stock engine. @MBS206Yep definitely not a replacement for anything name brand
    • You are selling this? I have never bought something from marketplace...i dont know if i trust that enough. And the price is little bit "too" good...
