MP_R33
Hey guys looking at jumping into an Evo 5, have heard quite a lot about themand evos in general being common for rust. I had a look at one and snapped some pictures of the rust. I am not that knowledgeable when it comes to rust so any advice would be appreciated. UNR33L
If it was me, I wouldn't worry about it too much you gotta remember cars from the 90s are almost bound to have some rust - I doubt that will cause any structural integrity, my GTR has some in places but still drives straight and turns well and didn't snap in half on the track I say if that's the only thing wrong with it get it Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/375327-advice-on-a-car-i-am-looking-at/#findComment-5987351 Share on other sites
alr33x
I'm no rust expert but that looks like surface rust which is only superficial should be an easy fix? Maybe try asking in one of the technical threads Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/375327-advice-on-a-car-i-am-looking-at/#findComment-5987412 Share on other sites

iseekool
Even my R34 has some minor underside surface rust, nothing to worry about. Sand back lightly and go nuts with zinc primer. Let it dry. Final coat with under chassis black or white. MP_R33
Hey guys, how long do you think the rust pictured above can go untreated before it does some serious damage? KURAUN
not that hard to treat that kind of rust there is some rust converter stuff you can buy in a pack then just spray some colour or something over the top once you have done it but its not corrosive rust, just surface so its not much of a deal Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/375327-advice-on-a-car-i-am-looking-at/#findComment-6010196 Share on other sites
MP_R33
So would it be ok to leave it untreated? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/375327-advice-on-a-car-i-am-looking-at/#findComment-6010207 Share on other sites
Borci88
So would it be ok to leave it untreated? Yeah maybe for 5 years or more, hard to say, some spread slowly and some spread like wildfire. Why take the risk though? Why not just treat it? I'm not suggesting cut it out or anything but find some Anti-Rust from bunnings and all that and you'll be sweet. KURAUN
dont think you need iirc from the rust convertor stuff just clean the area, brush it on and then primer/paint it... used it on a project car a while ago and was about $20 for the kit its pretty easy to use Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/375327-advice-on-a-car-i-am-looking-at/#findComment-6012951 Share on other sites
