Hey All,

I have an r33 gtst s1 - recently I've put on a new 3076 turbo with a 4inch intake pipe. I have yet to get injectors + fuel pump so I've just been putting around. Anyhow was driving home when I had an issue with the crank angle sensor which has now been fixed..

The issue is ever since that happened I get a screeching type of sound that comes in and out (not sure but could be metal shavings) and everytime i come to a near stop the engine sounds like it is going to cut out although it doesn't

does anyone know what the issue may be here? or what that sound is?

list your mods...

how did you expect a new larger turbo to go without getting other supporting mods?

and without getting it tuned?

please tell us you have a tuneable ECU or af control of some sort...???

i wasn't expecting it to "go" or planning on trying to do that without supporting mods.... injectors + fuel pump should be here within the week.

basically crank angle sensor went and had that fixed but ever since that there has been this winding sort of noise which hasn't gone away yet..

Did one of the washers for the CAS fall into the timing covers? Or anything else when you did the CAS?

Hard to say without seeing. This is just a guess as it's the last thing you touched before it went wrong

Nah I don't think so aye, also checked the belts and all that is sweet - while I was checking everything I noticed my exhaust was leaking though? it was leaking from the front so i lifted the car to make sure everything was tightened up and it was...

after turning the car over I had a closer listen and noticed the winding sound is actually coming from the exhaust, I just can't seem to find what the issue is and why it is leaking when everything is tightened.. I couldn't see any cracks either

map sensor + turbo change + no tune = silly.

map sensor has no way of knowing airflow like an AFM system and a turbo change will throw the tune out.

are you asking, when you install a new turbo do you need to have it re-tuned?

- new ECU and you got it tuned everything fine

- new turbo and 4" intake & tune not adjusted

- CAS issue and now you have problems

is that the order in which things have happened??

Just trying to verify the steps along the way

I got a tune as soon as I got the ecu, I was able to take the airflow meter off and stick on 4 inch intake pipe because he had been mapped.. does it still throw that tune out because I've got a new turbo on there???

a map sensor relies on the overall setup staying within a small margin of difference, a different turbo is not a small change to the system. get your tune checked it could be massively out.

on my car the difference made by having it tuned with VCT off and turning VCT on in some points made what was 14:1 now 15-16:1 AFR.

yeah that is pretty much the order that it all happened..

I see so it leans it out alot...

thanks for the advice guys, i think i know what the issue is now and definitely the solution - ta. i'll let you guys know how it goes once it's all finished and whether or not I am still having the same issues

    • Hi...so a "development" here aswell The swap is "done" and car went "test drive" BUT it seems the clutch(maybe gearbox?) is a little bit sad? I bought this clutch kit https://justjap.com/products/xtreme-heavy-duty-organic-clutch-flywheel-kit-nissan-skyline-r31-r32-r33-push-type "Problem" is that the first gear is hard to put into and it seems that the clutch is not disengaged. It was not the problem with the old clutch...(or like sometime the first gear would not get as easy specialy when the fluid was cold) So? Can it be like...bad "install" or is the clutch wrong ((it should not have been) i done research to get the right one) Or is this "normal" with new clutch and needs to be break in?
    • @Duncan I can try  and thanks i did not thought about VIN and part numbers for 33/34. @GTSBoy yeah it looks like iam gonna do that
    • Forgot to include this but this is the mid section of my steering rack that looks like it has a thread/can be turned with that notch mentioned in the post:
    • Hey everyone, Wanted to pick some brains about this issue I'm having with rebuilding my 33 rack (PN is 49001-19U05). All of the tutorials/videos I've seen online are either R34 or S Chassis racks which seem to be pretty straightforward to disassemble but this process doesnt carry over to my rack. Few of the key differences that I've noted The pinion shaft on the other racks bolt on with 3 torx bolts: Whereas my rack bolts on with 2 allen head bolts: These changes are pretty inconsequential but the main difference is how you pull the actual rack out of the housing. The other skyline/s chassis racks can be taken out by tapping the rack out of the body with a socket and it just slides right out. I'm unable to do that with my rack because there's a hard stop at the end that doesn't let the seal/shaft be tapped out. Can also see a difference in the other end of the rack where mine has a notch that looks like you're able to use a big wrench to unthread 2 halves of the rack whereas the other racks are just kinda set in with a punch. My rack: Other racks: TLDR; Wanted to know if anyone has rebuilt this specific model of steering rack for the R33 and if there were any steps to getting it done easier or if I should just give this to a professional to get done. Sorry if this post is a bit messy, first one I've done.
    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
