R33 Clutch Noise

Our R33 has an annoying noise that sounds for all the world like a drive belt squeak, only it goes away when the clutch pedal has even the smallest amount of pressure applied to it.

It's a series 1 GTS25T if that makes a difference.

If anyone has any ideas what this could be, or how to go about fixing it, I'd love to hear it.

Lubricate the pivot ball and fork. You can also lubricate the shift boot where the pivot fork goes through on the side of the gearbox.....that one caught me out once before. The rubber squeaking on the alloy bellhousing. Usually it's the pivot ball, fork or the actual throwout bearing. Have had good success with just lubricating these components

Sound's like an input shaft bearing. Relatively common in Skylines/silvia's around that age. Also relatively harmless, just a bit annoying.

Big job to replace though.

the line "only it goes away when the clutch pedal has even the smallest amount of pressure applied" would indicate that it's not the bearing as the smallest amount of pressure on the pedal will not stop the gearbox from spinning

Yeah if it disappears by slighting pressing on the clutch pedal, I would say it is the thrust bearing responsible. This action presses the thrust bearing up against the pressure plate, cutting out the noise. I had the exact same issue, sprayed some lithium grease along the clutch fork and on the thrust bearing (don't spray towards your clutch) - has fixed it for quite some time now.

Birds is right... I have the exact same issue, sounds like a twittering noise but when i even just rest my foot so ever lightly on my clutch it goes away, and i've been told it's my thrust bearing too.

sprayed a bunch of grease up along the lever today, hopefully that fixes the issue for me
