my r33 gtst has been playing up for the last few weeks, i duno whats up with it and i need help to find out what the problem is

my car stalls when i pull up to my dirveway after i give it a little hit, when i brake and the car is in neutral it still does it, the exhaust temp light comes up and the car dies, it also dies when i am pulling up to my uncles driveway

last night my car died on the highway at 110km/h, this was a short while after i took it to 180km/h, but it was also after a bump,

ive tried braking hard at the lights and the car is fine,

the battery light has come on once aswell,

i have been told to go see the person who installed my exhaust and ask them questions, but i got the car like that and the guy who did ithe exhaust is in japan, i have also been told it could be the fuel pump, or the timing or even the battery

i need help in finidng the problem, any ideas??

sounds like it could be a few things

1. after market bov - or idle circuit

2 o2 sensor not working

this would be my first few guesses based on what u have told me

but id say its something to do with or near those items

also could be a faulty afm

maybe you banged your air flow meter around to much, have you got an after marker air filter,if so check that when you put it on you didnt damamge the afm, but it sound like you might have an electriacl problem in your car if it dies on the freeway, get it checked out by a proffesional they should be able to find out if you havnt got a good earth to your fuel pump and so on,. good luck

Yeah could be a number of things.....the stalling suggests aftermarket bov...if its atmo venting this causes severe confusion with your afm. Perhaps the spring tension isn't correct - maybe adjust it and see what happens. Make sure there are no loose hse connections round the engine...could be a possible vacuum leak....There is another thread about stalling problems in General Discussions... might be worth checking it out.

I almost forgot about this.

Go and get a new battery, it's running out of charge, slowly though so it'll still start but at time it won't start in the mornings etc.

The reason why I know, is that a WRX had the exact same problems as yourself wouldn't start up and keep going on cold mornings, etc.

Spent something like 6 months and finally the battery died on it's ass put in a brand new battery everything working as if there wasn't anything wrong with the car.

This was also after a $500+ full service and had the car completely pulled down and put back together again 3 times and nothing could be said as to what the problem was.

So go and get a new battery, a very good one at least $500+ be worth it as the wouldn't be able to handle the drain placed on it and also can't charge up quick enough.

Lets us know if that fixes it also, as I think a guy with a commonwhore has the same problem, stalls on starts he's changed the computer 3 times also :) meh haha ha.

hey zagan, i had a brand new battery put into the car two months ag to pass rego, apparently this battery goes into the holdens and are fine, its a deepcycle light truck battery, but yeah i have noticed th battery light go on by itself and the car almost dying, about 5 mins ago in fact, when i was reversing and i made sure i reved it so it wouldnt die, i was having thoughts about the battery but i didnt think it would be it coz it is basically a brand new one, ill use my rev speed meter and see how the voltage is when its about to die and see if i need a new battery,

cheers for the advice

yeah, today when i was on the way home, i braked in the middle of an empty street to see how the voltage was going through the car, and i looked at my revspeed meter, it read 11.3 before the car began to stall, it is normally at abour 13.8, 14.1, but as soon as the revspeed displayed 11.3 or so it turned off, i backed off the brake, and the car resumed normal idle, but the revspeed meter died, and now its bunged and wont come on again, the revspeed is hooked up to the ecu and nothing else, does that mean i dont have enough power going around or something is stuffed??

the revspeed meter was only a month old, i wanna see whats up, ill check it out tomorrow and see if its just lose or exposed wires but otherwise im stumped on how it could just die liek that

any ideas?

ur car died wen u were goin 110kms/hr? and ur still here asking wats wrong?

wow consider urself lucky

doesnt the steering wheel and your brakes lock when your car dies?

your steering and brakes dont lock when your engine "dies", you just lose your power assistance on both brakes and steering, still shouldnt have any problem stoping or steering you just have to put in more input. the only way your steering will lock is if you take the key out of the ignition.

    • After @Kinkstaah debacle, I'd never want to try and get it right 😛
    • The hood lines up with the fenders. The front bar doesn't perfectly line up with the fenders where the wheel arch is. You have to 'squeeze' the front bar 'in' as it wants to naturally flare out and be longer on the sides. There's a few threads where people notice this when they only swap a GTR style bumper and front bar. Unless you have genuine OEM items - you may be better served getting conversion kits. There are GTT bumpers to fit GTR hoods. There are GTR hoods (non genuine) to fit the GTT bracketry. MAY
    • The real question is, on some of those wild roads they call highways, how many times did a farmer in an old ute from the early 2000s blaze past you over double lines?   Tassie is a wild and really cool place, and after doing a work related road trip there January of 24, I understand why Targa Tasmania is ran there, and is so tough to do well at! We had a brand new Camry Hybrid that handled quite nicely, and thankfully weren't in an old car, because cresting some of those hills in a 100kmh zone for it to suddenly be like "surprise f**kers, this is a recommended 30kmh hard right turn" wouldn't be pretty. We weren't racing the Camry around, but we weren't slouching in the bends either. But my lord those old farmers know their old clapped out utes, and those roads, as they were absolutely hammering it!   You're also super lucky to make it up to Mt Wellingtong this time of year. It's often road closed with snow/ice! Also, I hope you hit up Salamander Road in Hobart for some insanely good food (I highly recommend the dimly lit Irish pub for a Guiness Pie, or even the bangers and mash!!!)   How long did the Ferry take to get across? I want to do a road trip of Tas on my own time, but I get horrifically sea sick, and I don't want me on the Ferry, just the car 😛
    • So far so good, about 30km on it so far and nothing out of sorts yet thankfully
