Mate was at the cruise when it happened. Apparently it was lols. Cops were everywhere and got a hold of one of the maps and were just tailing them. Was an extremely stupid thing to do IMHO. Giving all Skyline drivers a bad name.

Wrecking the previously positive image that we had in the public eye? :P

Thing is, lots of people don't know that you're not allowed to accelerate quickly. So it was probably innocent enough.

That's fkd.

Farkin cops, there was a situation in northbridge where I was stopped for "braking hard" at the traffic lights, accused of speeding, they gave me a breath test and flash their lights all around me car but the weird thing was the farkin cops were on the other side of the intersection n they sed I was lucky coz they ddnt have their "radar off" pfft what a load of bullshit

I don't think the cops got a hold of the map, I rocked up to the cruise on time and there wern't any maps left! Plus they cops dissapeared before the first meet point.

The guy who got hoonedlawed in the 34 had invited me to the meet itself. I was confused as to why he didn't rock up to the first meetpoint. :P

Mostly well behaved cruise apart from a white 33 who's accelerator must have got stuck and accidentally did a 100m skid.

try it infront of a cop and report back on your findings :)

I once used close to 100% throttle accelerating from the lights on Tonkin Highway & there was a Police car a couple of cars back.

Was in a 4 speed slush box Corolla though...

  • 11 months later...

After almost a year, this case was finally heard by the Magistrates Court earlier this week.

To clear up any confusion, according to the police statement a maximum speed of 80km/h was reached by both vehicles prior to being pulled over. Excessive speed was NOT a factor.

After being offered and declining a plea bargain to downgrade charges from reckless driving to excessive noise, the case went before a magistrate and was promptly dismissed due to lack of evidence - the 2 officers didn't even bother showing up!

So after 5 trips to the Magistrates Court, both the co-accused and myself can put this behind us!

Also worth noting, the lawyer who's services I used was top notch - would definitely recommend him. PM me for details.

what a load of rubbish. honestly i see nothing wrong with accelerating to the speed limit itself, i think this was a case of traffic cops with a carrot up their arse! now every overly concerened driver on the road (that may or may not know what a skyline is) is gonna crack it or give us dirty looks at lights!

maybe they should actually concentrate on geting rid of cars that are in extremely shabby condition spitting out black smoke and have panels hanging off them smoke coming out the bonnet rather then people who actually care about their cars!

Sounds like they took off fast from the traffic lights & did 0 to speed limit (or there about) in 4 - 5 seconds instead of the usual 1/2 minute most road snails does in their Camrys.

& now general sheep public in their Camrys are outraged due to this accelerating too fast from the ligts...

O/T but Tonkin highway has a 100km/h limit with traffic lights!

^^^this is true but only 80kph at the traffic lights themselves

FYI speed allegedly reached of 80km/h was in a 70km/h zone. Police probably were a little over eager and will pay for it :) Of course even though the charges were dismissed the accused still had no use of their vehicle for 28 days for which no compensation can be sought.

& people wonder why I hate the hoon laws...

Cops are fkd and the whole hoon law is absolute bs..not even a hour ago I was driving the misses aurion and sped up to make the lights not knowing that there was a police bike on the other side of the lights and a unmarked cop car to the left of me. Ill be the first to say it was stupid as speeding is dumb but wtf if I was in my 32 for sure I would of been pulled over and done for sure as I hit 75 in a 60 zone. These laws are shit and bias and will only get more stupidly ridiculous until imports are a memory and ford and Holden rule the streets..bogans f*ktards and a % of the general population r shit drivers but there's no idiot laws for them so where's the fairness and equality for every person if you are judged by your car..

So you did 75 in a 60 zone and didn't get a fine/pulled over and you are complaining?

Yes it is true that cops profile people by the cars they drive. The reason you probably did not get pulled over is because they wouldn't have paid any attention to the car, possibly scanned the plates and realised it belonged to a 25(or whatever) year old woman with no prior fines. If you are in your R32, there is a certain stigma, and they will go out of their way to run your plates and check your car, it is the way it is when you own an import. Trust me, Holdens have it worse then us, because most of the f**kwits who do up those cars don't spend the time and effort we do, and dodge everything, like cutting/heating springs. The only example I can think of right now.

It all comes down to the way you drive. I have had my r34 for over a year now and I am yet to be pulled over, (with the exception of booze busses) and it is by no stretch of the imagination legal. I even had my underglow (yes, I do have it, come at me bro) earth out on something and turn on without the switch, and still didn't get pulled over. Cops have U-turned at lights and cut across lanes and turned the wrong way, basically gone out of their way just to get behind me and run my plates. After running my plates to find out I haven't got any infringements, then they pull up beside me and eye off the car. Then the most amazing thing happens... THEY f**k OFF.

Yes it is true, if you were in your 32, you probably would have got pulled over, but certainly not hoon lawed. You would have got $150 and 3 demerits, and when you talked shit to the cops, then they would have started to look around your car and possibly canary you.

You get these idiots who say they get pulled over for nothing (and I'm sorry to the people that this actually happens to, even though it is a very small %) then abuse and be straight out dream boats to the police, and then complain they get a yellow sticker and have a cry against hoon laws. I know a lot of people who are police, and I have had the opportunity to converse with their partners and others in the force. They are just doing a job, and 99.9% of the time, if you are nice to them and not a prick, they will let you away with obvious yellow stickers. They also said this: there are "cops" in the force, and even they (the police) label them as cops. The ones that will pull you over for no reason and find any tiny little thing to defect you for and make your life hell, no matter how clean or defect-less your car may be. And the police hate these cops, because it gives them all a bad name.

You see!?!? There is a small percentage of import owners who give us decent drivers a bad name, and cops have exactly the same problem!!

Moral of the story here is, if you don't drive like a tool, and don't modify too excessively, you should be fine.

I have a straight through exhaust, no cat, no mufflers - it is extremely loud. You know how I don't get pulled over? I don't redline it in traffic.

    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
    • Place the new daughterboard in the case and mount it using the 3 small black rivets provided, and reconnect the 3 factory ribbon cables to the new board Then, use the 3 piggyback cables from the daughterboard into the factory board on top (there are stand offs in the case to keep them apart. and remember to reconnect the antenna and rear cover fan wires. 1 screw to hold the motherboard in place. Before closing the case, make a hole in the sticker covering a hole in the case and run the cable for the android unit into the plug there. The video forgot this step, so did I, so will you probably. Then redo the 4 screws on back, 2 each top and bottom, 3 each side and put the 2 brackets back on.....all ready to go and not that tricky really.
    • Onto the android unit. You need to remove the top screen because there is a daughterboard to put inside the case. Each side vent pops out from clips; start at the bottom and carefully remove upwards (use a trim remover tool to avoid breaking anything). Then the lower screen and controls come out, 4 screws, a couple of clips (including 3 flimsy ones at the top) and 3 plugs on the rear. Then the upper screen, 4 screws and a bunch of plugs and she is out. From there, remove the mounting brackets (2 screws each), 4 screws on the rear, 2 screws top and bottom and 3 screws holding in the small plates on each side. When you remove the back cover (tight fit), watch out for the power cable for the fan, I removed it so I could put the back aside. The mainboard is held in by 1 screw in the middle, 1 aerial at the top and 3 ribbon cables. If you've ever done any laptop stuff the ribbon cables are OK to work with, just pop up the retainer and they slide out. If you are not familiar just grab a 12 year old from an iphone factory, they will know how it works The case should now look like this:
    • Switching the console was tricky. First there were 6 screws to remove, and also the little adapter loom and its screws had to come out. Also don't forget to remove the 2 screws holding the central locking receiver. Then there are 4 clips on either side....these were very tight in this case and needed careful persuading with a long flat screw driver....some force required but not enough to break them...this was probably the fiddliest part of the whole job. In my case I needed both the wiring loom and the central locking receiver module to swap across to the new one. That was it for the console, so "assembly is the reverse of disassembly"
    • But first....while I was there, I also swapped across the centre console box for the other style where the AV inputs don't intrude into the (very limited !) space.  Part# was 96926-4GA0A, 284H3-4GA0B, 284H3-4GA0A. (I've already swapped the top 12v socket for a USB bulkhead in this pic, it fit the hole without modification:) Comparison of the 2: Basically to do the console you need to remove the DS and PS side console trim (they slide up and back, held in by clips only) Then remove the back half of the console top trim with the cupholders, pops up, all clips again but be careful at the front as it is pretty flimsy. Then slide the shifter boot down, remove the spring clip, loose it forever somewhere in the car the pull the shift knob off. Remove the tiny plastic piece on DS near "P" and use something thin and long (most screwdrivers won't fit) to push down the interlock and put the shifter down in D for space. There is one screw at the front, then the shifter surround and ashtray lift up. There are 3 or 4 plugs underneath and it is off. Next is the rear cover of the centre console; you need to open the console lid, pop off the trim covering the lid hinge and undo the 2rd screw from the driver's side (the rest all need to come out later so you can do them all now and remove the lid) Then the rear cover unclips (6 clips), start at the top with a trim tool pulling backwards. Once it is off there are 2 screws facing rearwards to remove (need a short phillips for these) and you are done with the rear of the console. There are 4 plugs at the A/V box to unclip Then there are 2 screws at the front of the console, and 2 clips (pull up and back) and the console will come out.
