I am getting tired of my R33's drony 3" system

I've done some research and after watching youtube videos to compare the noise difference the varex seems like a good option

Can anyone give me some feedback as to whether I should invest my hard earned $ in one?

Im looking at this one on ebay atm http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/130583220548?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Thanks

I've sold a few sets in the past few years. None returns so far, the feedbacks on them are pretty good. But I haven't seen any one using them on high powered setups yet. (I don't carry them now, get them direct from xforce)

Their standard 3inch turbo back system worked pretty good with their cat knocked out. How ever they are considered loud.

The other best exhaust I've had was the HKS silient power system. It wasn't cheap, made only 4kws difference out of 314rwkws setup (310rwkws exhaust on, and 314rwkws exhaust off). They are pretty quite on the road.

thanks for the replies

I dont have any crazy power

atm ive only got the exhaust, r34 smic, and splitfires and it made 176rwkw on the dyno, which i was pretty happy with

in the future I'd only plan to do the usual stage one - get a fuel pump, pfc, fmic, ebc and aim around the 200rwkw mark

i think taking the bit out of the Varex that flips open and closed, and puting it between a screemer pipe and normal exhaust would be awesome... so u can flip from screamer to normal.... just throwing it out there... haha

I think you'd be better off with a HKS silent muffler of fujitsubu system, i have a 3 1/2 inch fujitsubu system , i decided this week to have a cannon welded on to see if it sounded better and it was terrible, sounded like a riced up honda or commodore ,

i also got pulled over by police for the first time, they saw me accelerating and quickly came after me like a had just robbed a bank. lol.. claimed that they saw smoke and suggested i was doing a burnout, this is just from hearing me take off from an intersection with zero boost upto 2500rpm..

so for me , id never have anything that is loud ever again..

Good quality legal level exhaust >> illegal $400 muffler.

For the price of the muffler again you get get a proper, top quality bolt on exhaust which sounds great, doesn't drone and is fully legal. Might sound pricey, but a single fine for the defective muffler and you'll have forked out more than the cost of a good quality exhaust anyway.

Do it once, do it properly. A Varex is a dodgy way to overcome an issue which can easily be rectified properly, in my opinion.

That said, if you are set on a venturi muffler, the Varex are the goods from what I've heard.

I had one on my old 32 came with the car was very loud and didn't give the crisp rb note I changed it for a apexi silent system and made it sound super mean I highy recommend the apexi system not cheap but. On my new 32 I run a rsr system sounds great not load very quite on the freeway and can be bought cheap on eBay or you may find one at a jap wreaker

A friends dad had one on his supra, completely destroyed the 2jz sound and considering how much power he lost when it was closed he never closed it.

Just get a jasma approved bolt on. Most sound great and are legal. I've got a hks hi power and love the sound.

    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch. I want to ask if this noise is from the throw out bearing or could it be the clutch assembly or disk att.xFliq87Gzw6kImKBVqDebXkj0fBqymk0JaYeP3_3SlM.mp4
    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
