Right, Soooooo the dream boats doing my compliance when my car arrives will not agree to turn a blind eye to the headlights and the fact there xenon. Apparently here in WA the car needs to go over the pits also?

DOES anybody know a way around this? It is the absolute last thing i want to happen, both times with my last two stagea's the guys doing the compliance let it slide, not this prick though." Do you have any idea of dangerous xenons are!" "Do you know how distracting they are" 'Sorry mate, i want people to know im f**king coming so they don't hit me!!!!'.

I need ideas people, even to the point of borrowing some butched headlights that have the poo halogen already fitted.

HELP! Any will be appreciated.

Ask for all the Xenon bits that come out to be returned to you, then install them after going through the pits?

OR

Have the guy rewire the lights as cleanly as possible, leave all the Xenon bits in there and give the globes to you.

Return to factory spec when you have the car.

Yeah i know what your saying and if it was as easy as that i wouldn't ask :(.

The problem is though when they install the halogen lights...they butcher the dream boats beyond repair, I have seen it numerous time(Anyone care to differ?). I would have to buy the entire back half of the light again in order to re-install them.

What i want is the flamin mongrel to not touch the lights which i have paid for. (Understood this is a problem with importing with xenon but no other compliance guy has had an issue untill this shiner!) I might go look at his cars in his yard and see to what extent he frankensteins them.

Still...anyone with some other ideas is more then welcome to elaborate! Please

Only suggestion I have is to buy another set when you get the car back from him. I can see his point as he could get audited on that car and catch him out. RAWS choose cars to audit at random so you can't say it won't happen and it covers his ass. Im lucky I got to keep mine nyaanyaa.gif

Yeah, had the same thing with my last two cars. Guy's let it slip as long as i said i put them back in ha.

By sounds of it, my compliance guy is an old prick with a grudge for cars with HID's; to quote, " You know how bloody dangerous and annoying it is all these high end European imports with the lights that blind you"

The issue Australia has with them is that they aren't self leveling so they can shine in the eyes of on coming cars. I don't know why they couldn't keep them but disable the manual height adjustment and just have them at a fixed lower point than the manual adjust will allow.

But Australia apparently knows best.

I have a M35 and V35 both complied here in Perth.

With the stagea they removed all the HID gear, although it was easy to replace.

The V35 they simply removed the bulbs and cut the wires, so when the car went over the pits i just put in the hid bulbs and reconnected 2 wires.

Another option is to take delivery of the car and arrange for another workshop to comply.

Northshore complied my Stagea back when they used to leave the halogen's in there.

Was driving around for a while with halogen lights, then decided to go back to the factory Xenon's.

Northshore had left all the HID gear in there and all I had to do was remove the H4 globe, unclip the + and - wires (they use a clip so it was very easy), then put the globe in and plug it in (the Xenon wiring was tucked down in the headlight housing).

Just saying, they don't have to butcher the factory Xenon's when installing halogen's.

Yeah, take your headlights out (remove front bumper to do so) and look for a black plastic box that looks like it is attached to the grill side of the housing, if the plastic is a slightly different shade or if there is a hole.

The box is the ballast for your Xenon's.

If it is still there, look inside your headlights for a large silver plug (it has a mesh protecting the wiring).

If you are lucky and still have that, you have your Xenon's in tact, just remove the halogen globe and wires and plug in a D2R globe

From memory Jase, when your headlights turned on in the garage the colour looked like it was the same as mine is with the Xenons in it.

Scott, I might have the internal wiring for hooking up Halogens - I can double check it over the weekend if you'd like.

Surely they would have picked up on my lights taking it through Regency if it had the Xenons? And if it does have Xenons, they must be pretty average Xenons - my Evo lights were WAY brighter and only Halogens..

The only way to be certain it has/hasnt got Xenons is to take the front bar off so you can get the headlights out to look at the fittings; so I dunno if regency would have gone to that effort. I assume itd be possible to get a higher lumen rated D2R bulb but I've never looked into it. I do find my Xenons a lot brighter than the halogens compliance put in though!

    • Apologies for the long post, but needed somewhere to lay out the entire timeline of events and actions taken:   I've got an 89 GTR with a R34 RB in it. It's been running great all year, driven probably 500KM in the last month. It's not my daily driver, just a weekend fun car.    Build info: R34 RB26 - HKS 2.7 stroker kit, HKS adjustable cam gears, HKS turbo upgrades, Trust intercooler, R34 factory DENSO 440cc injectors, JUN chipped/tuned R32 ECU. All of this work was performed in Japan back in 2019.    Thursday 10/2/25 - It's a nice day and decided I'll drive it to work, I start it up in the garage and I notice it took a few extra cranks and sounded a bit funny. I figure maybe it was just because it was a pretty chilly morning. I pull it out into the driveway to warm up a bit before leaving. As I leave the driveway, it feels very off and sounds like a misfire. I pull it back in the garage to deal with after work and take the daily to work. I was able to diagnose it as a cylinder 5 misfire with the old spark plug test (unplugging each plug until a sound change with the engine running). I take off the whole ignition system, ignitor, plugs, spark. *Important note, it is still on the R32 ignition system with the separate ignitor system. I test each system with a multi-meter and nothing presents as a smoking gun. I put it all back together and it starts up no issue. I go ahead and order the PRP R35 ignition conversion kit. It should arrive today (10/13/25)   Friday 10/3/25 - Another nice day, car starts up great and drives great all day. Very pleased that everything seems to be OK   Sunday 10/5/25 - Decided I'll take it to play some golf, load up and drive to the course about 25 minutes away. Drives wonderful the whole way there, I pull in the parking lot and the engine completely comes to a stop. I do not recall if it sputtered at all, but just remember all of the sudden the engine was off. I roll it into a parking spot, try to crank it back on and nothing.  It'll crank and crank and not even try to start. End up getting it towed back to my house and push it up into the garage.    Items I have checked: Fuel in the tank Fuel Pump relay Fuel pump fuse  Spark Plugs & gap Coil packs Ignitor    I know the cylinders are getting fuel as the plugs smell like fuel after a start attempt. I tried spraying starter fluid into the manifold and cranking and not even a sputter.    I decided to do the live CAS test (removing the the CAS, ignition on and spinning the CAS stalk to see if the injectors pulse and spark is active). All of the injectors were pulsing and I have spark at the plug. The half-moon end of the CAS did seem very loose, I'm not sure how much play is supposed to be there, but it was more than I expected. There was no in/out play of the shaft, just the tip end that is pinned on had quite a bit of play.    CAS Play video   When I put the CAS back in, I stupidly did not re-time the engine. I know I need to do that tonight, however, I do not think it will start given it seemingly was not the issue. My plan is to do the PRP R35 coil kit and retime the engine at the same time.    I plan on ordering the Haltech Nexus Plug-in ECU once they are available again, but ideally would like to get this sorted before firing the parts cannon at it and potentially adding more variables.    Anything glaring that I am missing here, I'm a bit at a loss?          
    • Get it on a dyno. Get something logging Consult. Run it up and find out what is causing it.
    • Looking for a plenum for rb25 de+t neo  Not looking to push much power maybe 300kw at the wheels, is there much difference in flow for Freddy “Greddy style” compared to original Greddy or options like Proflow or Otaku garage?    I won’t be porting the de Neo head for now as I think it’ll be fine 280-300rwkw but appreciate the help and any experiences anyone has between them and any advice. Thanks  Looking at this plenum for now below 
    • engine wise almost no mods: stock ecu Greddy front mount intercooler Greddy forward facing intake w R33 TB stock fuel system, stock injectors, rail etc. Kakimoto racing hyper 3 inch exhaust system Apexi intake filter New NGK –R BCPRES (.8 gap) plugs  
    • Nice one @Pac - looks like a fair few 1600's there!
