if the o2 sensor does nothing or its still bad afterwards check:

coolant temp sensor - the 2wire one, can be replaced with any of the same colour

cam timing - my 32 was a tooth out, didn't realise and wondered my the rb20 was such a pos, the ppl i sold it to worked it out and it goes wicked sick now

also, i think i got about 700 out of a tank once with my turbo brick, but my tank holds about 65 litres

just change the motor for an rb25neo

Hey the afm has been cleaned and im all very jealous of your fuel economy, i had a chat to the old skyline owner and he said his fuel was about 350k to a tank and it went down to about 200k once and it turned out to be the afm. He suggested replacing it with a new one and do the O2 sensor. The coolant temp sender does work but seems to read a little low so i will change it. what ones work ? the reason my mechanic is finding it so hard to diagnose is it runs well and goes hard. He says most fuel economy issues are with cars that run crap. Im going to get a mates r32 on the scan tool as well and do a compare on everything. Ill also get the injectors tested soon maybe thats why the idle hints slightly because its getting an irregular spray of fuel

you say the temp reads a little low, now issues with the clutch fan? my little bro's 32 had a stuck clutch on his, and it made his economy bad. but having said that his car was slow and loud and cold because of it.

hey guys as far as i can tell the ecu is stock. my clutch fan is in working order and from the sounds of it injectors will appreciate a proper clean :) ill keep you posted. Thankyou everyone who has contributed to this topic. I have just scored a job and it seems like its going well. Oh and got a 8 week payout for un fair dismissal :P The first things i will do with my first pay check will be an O2 sensor and MAF these are the one im looking at. probably like most im looking to spend the least amount of many but still get semi decent stuff ( I know thats near impossible ) This is the o2 sensor can anyone confirm if it fine for rb20det as it says rb25 but apparently they are the same

And the MAF ( cheaper through the US because the aussie dollar is so strong)

what do you guys reckon ?

I wouldn't touch that AFM, looks too cheap to be true, and who the hell is "AIP Electronics". There's no gaurantee has the exact same calibration as a genuine JECS made AFM.. I would only go with genuine AFMs made by JECS

i'd try re-soldering your current afm before you try that one

maybe unplug your o2 sensor for a tank and see if you get better consumption

and deffinately get onto that cool running (check thermostat too? you can run an r33 one but its 82dec not 87 like r34's run)

in the tridon book it says 82

but i got a nissan r33 one with my timing belt on it and it said 76.5 i think

both run at about the same temp tho, so maybe they rate it differently (opening vs fully open?)

    • would a r34 gtr hood line up with gt/gtt stock fenders? after latch, front bumper and hinges are swapped for gtr ones? or would the fenders be too low or high in relation to the hood surface? ( I believe seeing somewhere that gtr front fenders use some type of riser for the sides, but do not know how that relates to stock gt/gtt fenders.)
    • You just need to remove the compressor housing, not the entire turbo. I would not be drilling and tapping anything with the housing still on anyways.
    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.
    • Damn that was hilarious, and a bit embarrassing for skylines in general 😂 vintage car life ey. That R33 really stomped. Pretty entertaining stuff
    • Hi, I have a r32 gtr transmission. Does any of you guys have an idea how much power it will hold with the billet center plate and stock gearset? At what power level and use did yours brake with or without billet plate? Thanks, Oystein Lovik
