What about a R34 GT-FOUR? Non turbo for license reasons, but full GTR style driveline (4WD, etc), starting building a RB26 to drop in when you're ready and have a pseudo GTR!

Edit: Or even a R33 GTS-4.

Fat heavy slow slugs.

You want power to weight, also remember that a 10k GT will be worth 5k in 5yrs when you try and sell it.

DONOT do any mods on a NA Skyline, waste of money really, if you want one then keep it stock and save your money instead of wasting it on meager increases in power for a large out lay.

If you want a GTR save for one and don't waste your money.

MX 5 would be another good choice, quick and nimble, and chicks like them so its a win win really, but get a hard top.

My opinion is that a skyline isn't as enjoyable without a turbo-but that said u own one because of the looks that go with the power- r34s look sweet in my opinion and if I had my ps for 4/5years I'd prob find a cheap clean and non-defectable one and settle with that---hey beats driving a ford or commie ;)... Have you considered a track car?this way you can have the enjoyment of performance and also keep it for the track-no compliance and you can hire tailem bend/mallala if you have the $$?u can get some quite cheap "done up" imports from japan for 10g and less.. Kristian would be able to help you out..

You may think that it's "only $10K" but since insurance (if your under 25) will cost you $2000- $4000 per year your 10K could end up costing you $26K at the end of the 4 years.

Put that against something like a Magna/Ford which will cost you $2000 + $400 per year you can save the extra $21K for something decent when your back on your full licence. Oh and a Magna/Ford would be around as quick as a GT as well.

Even taking all this into account, I still think if it was me and I wanted a Skyline, I'd buy a Skyline. It makes economic sense to buy something cheaper, but if thats all we were worried about, none of us would be here.

It's all about how much bang you want for your buck.

Taken it all into account and realised that I honestly want a skyline.. I'm not going to be able to get much power out of any non-turbo/non-v8/non-supercharged car anyway.. I understand what ur all saying but thinking that i may aswell get the car i love the look of since I'm not going to get much power from any car anyway.. U seriously think the insurance will be that much? Some suggestions on insurance companies to go with just so I dont miss out on ringing some1 that will give me a good deal?

Don't really have the money to have a track car and a daily.. I kno wat ur gettin at but tbh probably not a reality even tho I'd love it, I still want to drive around in somethin I'd enjoy anyway.. And when it comes to an mx5 my mate used to have 1 a few years back. Theyre so frigging small, and do u really think chicks love them or do chicks love driving them lol? And I did look up commies before i stumbled upon this car and theyre mainly all in auto so.. sick of driving boring cars I've done it all my driving life.

I kno that if i buy some nice mags ill b able to fit it onto the GTR when i buy it but I'm mainly wondering if i buy an exhuast or any other mod such as intake fuel pump will that fit on the GTR or is it all going to be a waste of money? Like i said im a noob when it comes to cars so if theres any suggestions on what way to modify a GT so that they could be put on a GTR when bought and not a complete waste of money it'd b appreciated?

Your not gonna fit good gtr sized wheels eg. 18x 10.5 + 15 under a gt so u can scrap that idea, just keep it standard till you can get a gtr.

Here's food for thought however, if you buy like a calais or something you will be able to use it as a daily when u get a gtr which means you can go bonkers on it :D

Thinking of gettin 19s 8.5 front 9.5 rear... I kno what ur sayin bro but 5 years of driving something that isnt entertaining at all, ive driven commies before but fk they're broing... n I'm only young once hey... I get that non-turbo skylines r almost pointless but i guess i'm mainly thinking of gettin one for the look until i can get a GTR, easily the sexciest car out there... Are they really that gutless?

If it's going to end up costing you 20k at the end of the 4 years you do have the money for a daily and a track car. And the track car won't need insurance and if the track car breaks and funds are tight you can lay it up for a while.

Your issue is that insuring an import with any sort of bad driving history or young age will be basically impossible and if you do manage to get coverage you will be paying between 30-50% of the cars value per year for insurance, (don't even think of driving with out any though).

Thought about buying an R31, being Australian delivered they will be cheap to insure and parts are cheap as well. You could even have a R31 daily and a track car.

Ring Just Car Insurance for a quote.

Dale, I honestly get what your saying but his hands are tied as to what he can get. If I took into account the initial cost, mods + insurance money on my 32 GTSt over 4 years I've owned it I could have bought a mint 33 GTR...

Likewise people with a 32/33 GTR could have bought a 34 GTR after a period of time. Cars are not something that makes good money sense, but we love them anyway.

I doubt ud have huge insurance costs for an unmodified na skyline if your history isn't too bad-- I pay less than 1500$ with just car a year full comp and under 25 bracket... And that's obv gtt and with a mod list under agreed value a lot higher than 10g. Just cars would be your best bet-even shannons won't prob want to know you. If u buy a 34 gt for 10g now and sell it on in 4/5 years and only get 5g for it then uv got a car that prob doesn't depreciate near as bad as a domestic car, and you get to drive the car of ur desired looks--ur not a tool for driving an na-only when u drive it like its a slider on the road! Rego would be on par with a commodore.

Yes they are gutless no better than commodore, commodore feels better,

Anyway do what you wish, sounds like you had your mind made up already before getting everyone to give you logical advise to suggest you'd be better off without it.

Your choice at the end of the day, what would we know

^^ this man speaks the truth

thats what I was trying to say...lol

get a honda lots of go fast parts , wont break unless you do a 9k clutch dump with fat rubber, insurance cheaper and will leave a mx5 for dust . many NA cars dominate the time attack, drags etc.

mazada 121 haha cheap, you'll be virgin for a few extra years with that car..haha

toyota rolla, newer one.

first gen lexus 400 the 1j , the v8 is most likely not on the p plate list but these are cheap, and last forever. GO VIP . the attention to detail when they built that car is crazy, even behind the dash steel isnt sharp..lol

plus has lots of room for shagging and subs, safe car too

still leave you money for insurance, etc .

or buy some old school, steel, datto, rolla, and do it up, those pull some serious cash when sold , and run on a oily rag

LS400 likely isn't legal. V8. If they were, I would've suggested it, I loved my old Celsior, shit was awesome.

Hence my suggestion of a GS300.

But it really sounds like he's made up his mind.

Go buy a 34 GT, cover it in stickers, put some shit wheels on it, and make some noise about a supercharger conversion in a couple years time.

    • Back again. I returned to Japan in Jul/Aug to spend time with the car on my birthday and remind myself what all the sacrifice and compromise is for. It happened to line up with the monthly morning meet in Okutama, which I have been wanting to go to for a long time. It's a unique event at a unique spot with really rare, interesting, and quirky cars. It's where all the oldheads and OGs gather. The nighttime scene at DKF certainly has its place and should be experienced if you're into cars, but there's too much bad attention and negativity around it now. IMO the better time is Sunday morning at DKF or Okutama; it's more chill and relaxed. I'm glad I was finally able to go, but not sure it's worth the drive from all the way from Nagoya immediately the day before, unless I was already staying in Tokyo for the days right before the meet, because you have to wake up quite early to make it in time. Funnily enough though I didn't drive the car all that much this trip because it was just too damn hot. While there were zero issues and running temps were nominal and the A/C was strong, RBs already run crazy hot as it is. Sure, it took it all like a champ but something about driving these cars in the ridiculous heat/humidity bothers me and makes me feel like I'm asking too much of it. I'm just me being weird and treating the car like a living thing with feelings; I'm mechanically sympathetic to a fault. Instead I was mainly driving something else around - a KX4(silver) 2001 X-Trail GT, that I acquired in May. There's a few different flavors to choose from with Xs, but visually it's the Nissan version of the Honda CR-V. Mechanically it's a whole different story as this, being the top-trim GT, has an SR20VET mated to a four-speed auto and full-time AWD! It was a very affordable buy in exceptional condition inside and out, with very low mileage...only 48k kms. Most likely it was owned by an older person who kept it garaged and well-maintained, so I'm really happy with how it all worked out. It literally needs zero attention at the moment, albeit except for some minor visual touch-ups. I wanted something quirky, interesting, and practical and for sure it handily delivers on all three of those aspects. I was immediately able to utilize the cargo and passenger capacity to its full extent. It's a lot of fun to drive and is quite punchy through 1st and 2nd. It's very unassuming -in the twisty bits it's a lot more composed than one would think at a glance- and it'll be even better once I get better tires on it(yes, it's an SUV but still a little boat-y for my liking). So...now I have two golden-era Nissans in silver. One sports car and one that does everything else; the perfect two-car solution I think👍 The rest of the trip...I was able to turn my stressed brain off and enjoy it, although I didn't quite get to do as much as I thought. I did some interesting things, met some interesting people, and happened into some interesting situations however, that's all for another post though only if people really want to know. Project-wise, I went back to Mine's again to discuss more plans and am hoping to wrap that up real soon; keep watching this space if that interests you. Additionally, while working in the tormenting sweatbox that is the warehouse, I was able to organize most of the myriad of parts that my friend is storing for me along with the cars, and the 34 has a nice little spot carved out for it: And since it can get so stupid hot in there, that made it all the more easy -after I was standing there looking at the car and said 'f**k it'- to finally remove all the damn gauges that have mostly been an eyesore all this time. Huzzah. The heat basically makes the adhesive backing on the gauge mounts more pliable to work with, so it was far less stressful getting this done. I didn't fully clean it up or chase the wiring though; that will happen once I have the car in closer possession. Another major reason to remove all that stuff is to give people less reasons to get in my car and steal s**t while it's being exported/imported when/if the time comes, which leads us to my next point... ...and that is even though it's time in Japan is technically almost up since it's a November car and the X would be coming in March, I'm still not entirely sure where my life and career is headed; I don't really know what the future looks like and where I'm going to end up. I feel there's a great deal of uncertainty with me and as a result of that, it feels like I'm at a crossroads moreso now than any point in my life thus far and there are some choices I need to make. Yes, I've had some years to consider things and prepare myself, however too much has happened in that time to maintain confidence and everything feels so up in the air; tenuous one might say. Simply put, there's just too much nonsense going on right now from multiple vectors. Admittedly, I'm struggling to stay in the game and keep my eyes on the prize. So much so in fact, that very recently I came the closest I ever have before to calling it quits outright; selling everything and moving on and not looking back. The astute among you will pick up on key subtext within this paragraph. In the meantime I've still managed to slowly acquire some final bits for the car, but it feels nice knowing there's not much left to get and I'm almost across that finish line; I have almost everything I'll ever want for my interpretation and expression on what it is I think an R34 should be. 'til later.
    • Thanks for that, hadn’t used my brain enough to think about that.
    • Also playing with fire if they start to flow more air down low than what the stock twins can. It's not even up top you need to worry, it can be at 3000rpm and part throttle and it's getting way more flow than it should.
    • Any G40/1000 or G40/1250 results out there?
    • You still want a proper tune on the stock ECU though. Stock tune + stock ECU with GT-SS/-9s is probably playing with fire if you're running more than stock airflow/power.
