im going back to the track as soon as i get my cage installed next week, new nittos, and adjust my clutch, then should be ready for some more launching.

excellent, I can't wait to see you run some good times

11.04@125 (1.8 60ft-grannied it of the line) in my 4.5L turbo toyota crown. (Mcrearey DOT tyres)

I realize it's not a skyline-but it's Japanese, 6cyl, 24 valve and runs a set GTR injectors..........

As for the radial tyres-Got Boost-it does appear that you are the dude I've pushed back to 8th in the current HPI list (sorry).....Although in a couple of issues the [email protected] I ran at the meeting after that puts me in 6th spot.

What are the Nittos you are running like mate? Currently I'm just using some tall Simex tyres cause they were cheap and tall (engine only revs to 6000 so I need all the gearing and tyre height I can get)-but the 11.37 is the best I think they will do. What $$ did you pay for them, where from, and would you recommend them?

Cheers dude

MS-75 ,

Don't tell me you have a 4.5 lt landcruiser engine in the crown !!!

I'm interested to know , how much boost are you running in the old truck engine ?

They are very tough engines biuld to last for ever ......

Looks like 10's are just around the corner .

you got it WRXhoon-it's a 1FZ-FE Landcrusher motor. It ran the 11.65 on 14psi-although the MPH was low at 108 as I backed off when it got a bit of a wobble up in the rear in the deep end of the track. (stock bushes in the rear end was the culprit) It had hit 124mph just before I backed off though. Next time out I had it at 17 psi, and had custom urethane bushes on board allowing me to keep the boot in for the whole 400, giving an 11.5, 11.37, 11.88 (too much gas-went up in smoke) then 11.04 on the semi-slicks. However the MPH (124-125) was the same as for 14 psi, so I don't think the 3psi made much difference (probably the stock plenum and cams I think-it's also nearly on the limiter at 125 so will need a change from 3.23 to 3.08 gears for more MPH). The 1FZ is certainly doing the job so far in relatively stock trim (except for a bit of head port smoothing and combustion chamber mods to dro compression)-and I'm getting stuck into more injectors, custom plenum and re-ground cams soon as well. If I actually stall it up off the line next meet it should go 10.90 or so as is.

It was really an experiment to see if the 1FZ turbo idea would work, and it's proving to be far better than I'd expected. (but yes-the weight distribution is average-however the Crown handles like a turd anyway  and it's only meant for 1/4 work)

Cheers

It must be one of the quickest 1fz on the planet .

they turbo them in the middle east but they have to push 21/4 ton landcruiser so they can't be that quick but yea they have heaps of torque and you wont blow them up in hurry ...

Yea they would be very heavy at the front of the old crown . How old is the crown ? mid 80's model ? Still auto ?

yeah thats me. my nittos are passed their use by date now and with the new turbo and cams in the power is much more on/off and its much harder to get away without bogging or smokin them hard. im hopin to race again friday night on full slicks again but with proper front tyres to match. you'll be lucky to find nitto's here mine were privately imported as far as know. try some bf goodrich drag radials.

Cheers 2RISMO-I had a look, but unfortunately they're 16inch-and I've got 15inch rims-

Has anyone on SAU got experience with the BFG's? I'd be curious as to their impressions.

The ones I had in mind are the 275-60 DragRadials (I borrowed a 275 60 Comp T/A to check sizes and they fill the guards perfectly). I just have to flog off a spare turbo I have to fund them. I'm planning on fitting the car with custom cams, the two new Tial 38mm gates I just bought (it runs two w/g's-one for each half of the split-pulse turbine/manifold set-up), tuning it on jungle juice of some form to about 20psi and fitting it with the drag radials for a crack at the radial tyre record for 6cyl rwd in HPI by the end of the summer. (10.4 is bloody moving though........and I may just end up with a 1FZ block filed with mangled engine parts instead :boohoo: )

I'll probably be hanging around here a fair bit as the skyline community has got a lot of valuable experience with big power turbo sixes. At the moment I'm investigating what would be a good cam profile for it-who is the expert on such matters around here?

The toyota crowd is (for the most part) more into the sprinter/celica 4cyl side of things.(slowly changing though with the 1JZ-2JZ becoming more common).

Anyway-take it easy-and I'll stop clogging this thread with my garbage now. Nice to meet you fellows. (although I'll start clogging other ones no doubt...=-)

  • 1 year later...

My first time ever on the strip, R33 gts25t typeM. full trim. BP ultimate. 10psi. using my 18's with kumho street tyres 265x35x18 :(. coudlnt fit my spares in my boot. so i just let pressure down to 26psi. will definently be back , chasing 12's with a few new mods and some decent tyres. im sure the car has a low to flat 13 in it, if i could just launch it properly. still yet to get it tuned yet, all mods done myself. only spent well sweet f*k all on the car so far.

    • I guess one thing that might be wrong is the manifold pressure.  It is a constant -5.9 and never moves even under 100% throttle and load.  I would expect it to atleast go to 0 correct?  It's doing this with the OEM MAP as well as the ECU vacuum sensor. When trying to tune the base map under load the crosshairs only climb vertically with RPM, but always in the -5.9 column.
    • AHHHH gotchaa, I'll do that once I am home again. I tried doing the harness with the multimeter but it seems the car needed a jump, there was no power when it was in the "ON" position. Not sure if I should use car battery jump starter or if its because the stuff that has been disconnect the car just does send power.
    • As far as I can tell I have everything properly set in the Haltech software for engine size, injector data, all sensors seem to be reporting proper numbers.  If I change any injector details it doesnt run right.    Changing the base map is having the biggest change in response, im not sure how people are saying it doesnt really matter.  I'm guessing under normal conditions the ECU is able to self adjust and keep everything smooth.   Right now my best performance is happening by lowering the base map just enough to where the ECU us doing short term cut of about 45% to reach the target Lambda of 14.7.  That way when I start putting load on it still has high enough fuel map to not be so lean.  After 2500 rpm I raised the base map to what would be really rich at no load, but still helps with the lean spots on load.  I figure I don't have much reason to be above 2500rpm with no load.  When watching other videos it seems their target is reached much faster than mine.  Mine takes forever to adjust and reach the target. My next few days will be spent making sure timing is good, it was running fine before doing the ECU and DBW swap, but want to verify.  I'll also probably swap in the new injectors I bought as well as a walbro 255 pump.
    • It would be different if the sealant hadn't started to peel up with gaps in the glue about ~6cm and bigger in some areas. I would much prefer not having to do the work take them off the car . However, the filler the owner put in the roof rack mount cavities has shrunk and begun to crack on the rail delete panels. I cant trust that to hold off moisture ingress especially where I live. Not only that but I have faded paint on as well as on either side of these panels, so they would need to come off to give the roofline a proper respray. My goal is to get in there and put a healthy amount of epoxy instead of panel filler/bog and potentially skin with carbon fiber. I have 2 spare rolls from an old motorcycle fairing project from a few years back and I think it'd be a nice touch on a black stag.  I've seen some threads where people replace their roof rack delete with a welded in sheet metal part. But has anyone re-worked the roof rails themselves? It seems like there is a lot of volume there to add in some threads and maybe a keyway for a quick(er) release roof rack system. Not afraid to mill something out if I have to. It would be cool to have a cross bar only setup. That way I can keep the sleek roofline that would accept a couple bolts to gain back that extra utility  3D print some snazzy covers to hide the threaded section to be thorough and keep things covered when not using the rack.
    • Probably not. A workshop grade scantool is my go to for proper Consult interrogation. Any workshop grade tool should do it. Just go to a workshop.
