Hi Guys

Hoping someone hear can help, iv been searching & reading about what diff the R34 Gtt manuals came with, half of the information I have read states it is a Viscous & the other half states it's a Helical, the sales brochure says the manuals were Helical & the Auto's were Viscous however the sales brochure I have were for the series 2, I have a series 1 & would like to know what I have, can anyone confirm for sure if its Helical or Viscous otherwise could you explain how I can tell myself if I look at the diff?

Thanks in advance

Both. I suspect that the later ones were the helicals. I had seen that brochure as well, rubbed my hands together with glee, went and bought a diff from an R34 manual.....and it was viscous. A 4.11 viscous, just like an R33, but it was definitely from a 34.

End of page 3 - start of page 4 of this pdf shows the R34s had both either side of Aug 2000, although it is a little hard to work out what transmissions they refer to. The auto diffs are 4.083 and the manual diffs are 4.11, and you can definitely see there that they maintain there were only helical 4.11 manual diffs. http://www.nismo.co.jp/en/products/competition/lsd/pdf/lsd_price.pdf

But I don't trust it!

Thanks for that using the link you provided & the below link that explains the codes marked on the name plate it looks like the series 1 came with a Viscous (R200V) & the series 2 came with a Helical (R200H)

Can anyone else confirm if this is correct?

Jack it up, gearbox in neutral. A VLSD will turn the opposite wheel the same direction as the one you turn by hand, a helical will behave like an open diff and spin the opposite wheel in the opposite direction.

There are also nameplates/markings on some of the diffs with the code, and it might even be on the plate in the engine bay.
