M35 Funny Turbo Sound

Hey guys,

Pretty much as the title spells it out, I get two random turbo noises from my car. One occurs under hard acceleration and it sounds a bit like it's rubbing, it comes on instantly then backs off straight away but it's a funny twangy sound to the normally smooth whine.

The other, which I have a video of occurs when the throttle is released after accelerating. Sounds as if the turbo whines up and then down and it gets noticeably louder, try to listen in the vid when I come off the power... Is this normal?

Cheers

Nick

Turbo be dead. :pirate:

Get on to Jetwreck... He can save you.

Edit, its either highflow time, or I have a stock turbo here if needed.

Great... Something that can be claimed under warranty?

Warranty won't cover the full value of labour & rebuild. Better off doing it properly, and going with a proven replacement.

Hmmm turbocharger covered for impellers and bearings to the sum of $3000...

What exactly do u guys reckon is the issue, and is it right to drive?

Ah FFS,

Can't exactly afford a turbo replacement and a tow truck to Sydney... Might risk it and get it home, then I can deal with getting it sorted out. Anyone had experience with turbo's going and getting warranty, kinda new to both games.

Jet wreck what can you recommend as far as getting it fixed/replaced?

  • 2 weeks later...

The car is getting sorted out on Wednesday. The dealer I bought it from, Nagoya, have been extremely helpful in making arrangements for a warranty assessment and the subsequent turbo rebuild, and hopefully it should be sorted in the next week or two.

Cheers to Jetwreck for the advice!

Nick
