Hi All,

After much hunting around for a Media/stereo solution for my M35 I have some helpful info for anyone trying to think of a setup.

1. This system started as a stock Jap system. First I wanted to have the TV work in Australia. So I brought a car TV tuner on ebay and had Andy install it.

He did a great job but the Tuner works fine all through Sydney, but the moment you drive to Newcastle... Bang! to tuner will never again get signal.

If you live in newcastle a TV tuner is out of the question ( I wish I new this before I spend $350 getting a tuner installed)

2. Now I have ripped out the tuner and installed a WDTV live media player with WiFi.

I installed a Infrared Extender from Jaycar that runs on 12VDC, this allow me to use the remote in the front and have the WDTV in the boot compartment.

Benefits:

1. Will play .MKV files

2. The WDTV runs on 12VDC

3. you can tether your phones internet and watch YouTube and other smart TV programs.

4. download DLNA apps on your phone and play movies off your phone directly to you TV screen wirelessly including music!

5. Load up a 500g hard disk drive full of movies and music and plug it in!

Screw the TV (in Newcastle) and get a WDTV.....

Hope this helps people pick a solution for there media setup.

Hi James

Did you rescan for TV channels in your local area?

With any TV tuner you have to retune when you move more that about 60-100km from you home base.

I would be surprised if you were unable to get reception in Newcastle. If you can get reception in your house with out a 40ft aerial on the top of your house you will get reception in your car.

Cheers

Andy

you can check out my 7" android tablet install in the other thread ;)

Yeah seen that - I don't want it mounted up front...I want 2 tabs mounted behind each front headrest for the kids...

I do have a cradle up front that can hold a tab if I really want to though...

Hi Andy,

Yeah I tuned it numerous times in many parts of Newcastle, I can get NBN (channel 9) in about 5 suburbs and always breaking up and not worth watching. Iv read about this on other forums, apart from main Australian cities, (sydney, melbourne, brisbane, gold coast etc.) TV reception in Australia is way below par with the rest of the world.

Just got back from a weekend in Canberra. Only Sydney and Canberra was the only parts I got reception. Only about 1hr of a 4.5hr drive. Worth ripping out id say.

why don't you just put a Ipod/Phone dock into the spare RCA for the time being(or until Digital gets to the coast) and watch movies/play music?

    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
    • I'm not going to recommend an EBC pad. I don't like them. Just about anything else would suit me better. I've been using Intima pads for a while now.
    • Agreed, and in particular the earth strap that should go from the subframe to the chassis but it often broken or left off. There is a section in the R32 workshop manual you can follow for troubleshooting if you don't see anything suspicious, and depending where you are (there is no location on your user profile) you should be able to get your hands on a second hand replacement unit still if needed
    • Yeah they mention as a R34 for 2.5 Turbo...but then again thos "small" were also for R34 by that different site. But i look into it and that 310mm EBC is for R34 GTT. And by those you linked the specs are the same 🙂    EDIT: I found these on one site here: DBA 4000 series T3 DBA42304S They are 310mm...and it says are for R34GTT...are there good? EDIT2: ok they have pads too.  What "color" should i get for street use? I dont want/need some noisy ones...(and if they are not that dusty that is good too)
    • Yeah, shame. Maybe  driver's carpet is available 🙏. I am waiting for both amayama and nangun to confirm.
