Actually one thing to be prepared for is having to physically bend the hard lines for the water feed. This is going to take time as you have to be careful not to crush them, and it's also very frustrating getting them to line up properly.

Not sure if it will be necessary with your turbo though

Kasko, I'm very confident that you will have to do some serious (but very cautious) bending of the hard water lines.

This can be a complete pain in the ass, we got it there on Troy's, but i went and got a soft line made up for mine from enzed.

Mitcho, The 34 highflow will just bolt straight back on and everything will line up perfectly.

- There's 6 dump pipe bolts (if you have had a new dump pipe some time in the cars life these won't be too bad) If it's a stock dump you might be able to detatch the dump from the rest of the exhaust by 3 bolts (i think), then take it out and get the dump removed on the bench.

- 4 Turbo to Manifold bolts/nuts (Theses are the ones that will break if anything's going to go wrong. Get new studs if you can get the old ones out! search Hypergear's thread for the size of stud, any exhaust shop will have them)

- 2 oil lines (easy)

- 2 water lines (will be easy with the same turbo going on)

- and the obvious piping (easy)

It seems so easy when its typed out like that, but it never works out to be as simple. I have had the dump/front pipe on and off a few times, so im ok with getting it off. Im just not confident with acually removing the turbo/water/oil lines. I also really hope i dont snap any of the turbo to manifold studs. Is spraying them with heaps of wd40 a good idea or does it tend to not help much?

Yeah spray it with WD40, can't hurt!

I THINK the water lines are a 24mm banjo bolt, I may be off with the size but its a pretty big socket you need. They are on either side of the turbo (the oil feed is on the top and the oil drain is on the bottom).

the outside banjo bolt is easy to access, the one in between the turbo and block is kinda hard to get to. It can be easier to remove the dump and manifold nuts to you can slide the turbo out then get room to get the socket in there behind it.

As soon as you crack the either of the banjo bolts the head will drain all it's coolant out onto your feet, through said banjo bolt, so don't panic. So get a tray or something under there :)

The oil feed really is as simple as undoing an easy to get to bolt. the oil drain you can get off by just undoing a hose clamp under the turbo (stick your head under there and you can't miss it).

Okay so guys I pulled off everything yesterday except for the 2 water lines and the bottom oil line.

Didnt have the 24mm socket haha so I will be getting that today.

Either the product I purchased (instant freeze stuff) is amazingly good at what it does.

OR!

The why who bolted up my turbo and dump pipe is very stupid! because we managed to unscrew my bolts to the turbo and to the manifold by hand! They didnt need to be cracked or anything haha

How's the SS1PU looking?

Rusty haha the rear housing has already got surface rust.

Anyone know if there is paint capable or handling the heat on it if I sprayed it black?

It looks that it may not be a huge problem to fit but I should know by tonight.

Well I got a little side tracked and wired up my Z32 yesterday.

Shane pulled the last bit of the turbo off because we had to borrow a 24mm socket.

My stockie is out and today is gasket day/silicone joiner day.

Just need one gasket for the bottom of the turbo where the oil out line goes.

Then in it goes and im done!

Also have to put the whole front of the car back on haha because I decided to pull the front bar off and spray it

Plus clean the intercooler

I was talking to my mate yesterday and he thinks i should try and do as much as possible over the Easter break so I have a few free days in a row that I can dedicate to working on it.

I am thinking of doing the nismo fuel pump, trying the ecu to see if the car will run and maybe doing the profec b ebc on the Friday.

Pulling out the turbo/stock intake on Saturday and getting the hi flow and metal intake install started. Have a break on Sunday.

Then on Monday finish off the turbo install and wire up a quick swap over plug sorta thing for the z32.

Then I guess see if the car will still drive with all that and if not whack in the injectors and get it towed to the tuners during the week.

Is anyone going to be available to possibly help out over Easter (specifically with the turbo/ ebc/ afm soldering) ?

The wiring for the AFM quick swap plug was straight forward in mine.

I went to jaycar and got 2 plugs with 4 holes and wires.

EBC I have a greddy profec b spec and could help with that one to.

Just depends on if I have to work a lot

    • Sorry, just assumed that talk of coloured pads meant EBC red/green/yellow/shit stuff. I don't know the DBA pads, but it's a reasonable bet that they will be OK. DBA make good stuff generally. Those 4000 series rotors I linked to are very good. I may well replace the RDA rotors I have with those when required.
    • The average previous owner for these cars were basically S-chassis owners in the US. Teenagers or teenager-adjacent. I often tell people that neglect is easier to fix than something that was actively "repaired" by previous owners.
    • Update 3: Hi all It's been a while. Quite a lot of things happened in the meantime, among other things the car is (almost) back together and ready to be started again. Things that I fixed or changed: Full turbo removal, fitting back the OEM turbo oil hardlines. Had to do quite a bit of research and parts shopping to get every last piece that I need and make it work with the GT2860 turbos, but it does work and is not hard to do. Proves that the previous owner(s) just did not want to. While I was there I set the preload for the wastegates to 0,9bar to hopefully make it easier for the tuner to hit the 370hp I need for the legal inspections that will follow later on. Boost can always go up if necessary. Fitted a AN10 line from the catch can to the intake hose to make the catchcan and hopefully the cam covers a slight vacuum to have less restrictive oil returns from the head and not have mud build up as harshly in the lines and catch can. Removed the entire front interior just shy of the dashboard itself to clean up some of the absolutely horrendous wiring, (hopefully) fix the bumpy tacho and put in LED bulbs while I was there. Also put in bulbs where there was none before, like the airbag one. I also used that chance to remove the LED rpm gauge on the steering column, which was also wired in absolute horror show fashion. Moved the 4in1 Prosport gauge from sitting in front of the OEM oil pressure gauge to the center console vents, I used a 3D printed vent piece to hold that gauge there. The HKB steering wheel boss was likely on incorrectly as I sometimes noticed the indicator reset being uneven for left vs. right. In the meantime also installed an airbag delete resistor, as one should. Installed Cube Speed premium short shifter. Feels pretty nice, hope it'll work great too when I actually get to drive. Also put on a fancy Dragon Ball shift knob, cause why not. My buddy was kind enough to weld the rust hole in the back, it was basically rusted through in the lowermost corner of the passenger side trunk area where the wheel arch, trunk panel and rear quarter all meet. Obviously there is still a lot of crustiness in various areas but as long as it's not rusted out I'll just treat and isolate the corrosion and pretend it's not there. Also had to put down a new ground wire for the rear subframe as the original one was BARELY there. Probably a bit controversial depending on who you ask about this... but I ended up just covering the crack in the side of the engine block, the one above the oil feed, with JB Weld. I used a generous amount and roughed up the whole area with a Dremel before, so I hope this will hold the coolant where it should be for the foreseeable future. Did a cam cover gasket job as the half moons were a bit leaky, and there too one could see the people who worked on this car before me were absolute tools. The same half moons were probably used like 3 times without even cleaning the old RTV off. Dremeled out the inside of the flange where the turbine housing mates onto the exhaust manifolds so the diameter matches, as the OEM exhaust manifolds are even narrower than the turbine housings as we all know. Even if this doesn't do much, I had them out anyways, so can't harm. Ideally one would port-match both the turbo and the manifold to the gasket size but I really didn't feel up to disassembling the turbine housings. Wrapped turbo outlet dumps in heat wrap band. Will do the frontpipe again as well as now the oil leak which promted me to tear apart half the engine in the first place is hopefully fixed. Fitted an ATI super damper to get rid of the worn old harmonic balancer. Surely one of the easiest and most worth to do mods. But torquing that ARP bolt to spec was a bitch without being able to lock the flywheel. Did some minor adjustments in the ECU tables to change some things I didn't like, like the launch control that was ALWAYS active. Treated rusty spots and surface corrosion on places I could get to and on many spots under the car, not pretty or ideal but good enough for now. Removed the N1 rear spats and the carbon surrounding for the tailpipe to put them back on with new adhesive as the old one was lifting in many spots, not pretty. Took out the passenger rear lamp housing... what do you know. Amateur work screwed me again here as they were glued in hard and removing it took a lot of force, so I broke one of the housing bolts off. And when removing the adhesive from the chassis the paint came right off too. Thankfully all the damaged area won't be visible later, but whoever did the very limited bodywork on this car needs to have their limbs chopped off piece by piece.   Quite a list if I do say so myself, but a lot of time was spent just discovering new shit that is wrong with the car and finding a solution or parts to fix it. My last problem that I now have the headache of dealing with is that the exhaust studs on the turbo outlets are M10x1.25 threaded, but the previous owner already put on regular M10 nuts so the threads are... weird. I only found this out the hard way. So now I will just try if I can in any way fit the front pipe regardless, if not I'll have to redo the studs with the turbos installed. Lesson learned for the future: Redo ALL studs you put your hands on, especially if they are old and the previous owners were inept maniacs. Thanks for reading if you did, will update when the engine runs again. Hope nothing breaks or leaks and I can do a test drive.
    • No those pads are DBA too  but they have colors too. I look at the and imo the green "street" are the best.
