Hi everybody!!

I'm new to the car audio game and i've been looking a few system for my car I don't know much about what i need. (To me a $500 amp and a $1000 amp only differ in size) :headspin: ... i can't quite decide which brand to go for (or what to get ... i'm looking to spend about $1500-$2000) on the whole sytem? ATM i'm thinking of getting Cadence 2x Front speakers 2xrear speakers 1xamp and (1 or 2)Subs head unit will decide later as i already have a half decent one.

Some info or opinions is what i'm after.

Kor

basically i would choose what subs you want and what power they run before choosing your amp... if you buy a amp with smaller capacity of course your subs won't reach full potential and also if you have to much power it will just drain more power than you need. i have a 700 watt crosfire amp running 2 10" alpine type s subs and that does the job for me. if you aren't going to be going crazy with it just goto a car audio place and see what deals they have for a whole kit alot of the kits are pretty good with everything you need to get started

Most of the best systems utilise splits and the front and a subwoofer at the rear all running of a power amplifier. For you aloted budget I would suggest something like the following:

Source Unit(s): Alpine CDM-7874EB / Pioneer DEH-P5650MP / Clarion DXZ746MP

Front Speaker(s): Boston FS-60 / Diamond M361 / Hertz HSK 165 / Focal 165A / Rainbow SLX 230.03 / Morel Pulse / Phoenix Gold TX6.5

Sub(s): JL Audio 12W0-4 / Image Dynamics ID12V.3 / Diamond M312 / Hertx HX 300 / Boston GS1204 / Phoenix Gold R12D

Amplifier(s): Audison SRx3 / Phoenix Gold R8.0:4 / Zapco i450

Cable: Stinger

That any help?

gday kor,

stick to the well known brands kor as you are guaranteed some kind of consistency as far as quality goes.

I see that you are based in melbourne.

Im not sure where abouts in melb you are but I have recently moved back to melb within the last month and stumbled over a car audi store that have gone out of their way to help me with my car audio needs.

If you get an opportunity call gary car radios at Keilor East and speak to nick or better still pop down and talk to him about what you want to achieve and take my word for it you will not be disappointed with the service and help they will offer you their numer is (03) 9336 0053. I purely stumbled over this shop as I had a problem with an alpine tv that i purchased (mind you not from their store) and they helped me get it all sorted out.

I would recommend anybody in melbourne to make a trip to their store if they want to get installations done or puchase gear.

Kor feel free to drop my name Brad Churchmichael if you happen to contact them and im sure you will get looked after.

I hope this will help you out

Regards

Brad

i paid 1850 and got

alpine front splits 6"

alpine rear coax 6"

2 x 12" alpine subs in a box in the boot

4 channel alpine amp for the cabin speakers

2 channel amp monbloc for the subs

alpine cda9807 cd/mp3 head unit

alpine rca adapter thingy to hook up my dvd player

all that installed for 1850

dont pick the bits yourself unless you know what youre doing, getting a $1000 amp is pointless. goto an audio shop and get a few quotes. i would recommend garys car radio, your in melbourne goto high st preston store, rodney or jackie are your best people to speak to

have seen the guys install 5 or more stereo setups for friends on mine and their friends, 2 of them were in my cars all great and kickass value good installs and good parts and wiring etc

ive been warned away from likes of jb hifi, autobarn, strathfield etc...

yeah thanks... i hadn't even looked at those brands... are they any good? have you had any past experience with them?

I have installed them many many times over and have not had one person complain about it yet. Quite the contrary. :D

Hint; don't always go the for the big names. They're not always the best. ;)

Sub(s): JL Audio 12W0-4

Those subs they dont make any more i dont think i have 2 x 12 JL wd-4 gold signatures and you cant find them anymore greatest subs :D.......

its not hard nowaday to go overboard with the money when considering systems, the best possible advice i could give, is that you build it up one component at a time like i did.

First get yourself a decent MP3 deck i have the JVC KD series with trillimium lights;

Secondly, you dont need top top name subs, so buy 2 x 12" or 10" sony xplodes, run them off a smaller watt amp bridged so like a 444watt sony amp bridged will do that......

Eventually buy the 6" boston acoustic rally set, they r well worth their money and then some rear speakers, run them off another amp, and your car will thump.

    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
