Not wrong, just a view with my experience setting up and balancing pro karts.

Appreciate its the internet, but I tend to have a giggle :D at your scale of economy. You've got a Porsche 997 GT3 (911) yeah, 2nd hand low kms 2010 these babies set you back in the vicinity of $280-290k and a brand spankin new GTR 189k

So with that $100k you have sitting in your wallet to spend on (mods :), track days, and servicing) over the warrantied life of the car there's no way you're going to blow $33k/pa on services, tyres and brakes.. On top of your $$$$ on the Porsche, you've got your 12 month services or what ever they deem necessary on it.. so $289k + + +

The GTR offers so much more too, in the way that it has 2 back seats and a boot that matches a reasonably priced car, where the GT3 has a roll cage, and well.. nuttin much else really

What ever tickles your fancy TBH, sounds like you didn't enjoy any track days what so ever in the GTR.. Shame really its just so much win!

No need to giggle as your GT3 prices are all wrong, I paid $220k for a low-km, highly optioned .2 GT3 a year or so ago so today I'm guessing they can be had for very close to $200k.

Please don't think I disliked the GTR on track, it was absolutely awesome and it's ability to hit an apex when I thought it was all over on entry still makes me smile :) I just found the requirement of constant monitoring and management of engine and gearbox temps frustrating, and I love the challenge of managing balance more so in the GT3.

Easiest way. Just get over it. Transmission doesn't cost 30K$. Engine doesn't cost 55K$.

If I was you guys I would just nullify the warranty and go aftermarket. Willall can repair transmissions way lower than that.

Service costs has gtr tax. People are just ********* to pay and don't break the warranty. Even with mods by law the dealer has to accept warranty work funny or not.

Bring to your own very well known mechanic and they will do a bargain on you for the service cost. It's just a car nothing more why pay the ridiculous added gtr tax?

It's not about which one is better but, Even above average income guys don't want to pay ***** money for nothing.

Few k's on service costs I know. Pointless. With those few k's you could just go aftermarket and still be cheap on the long run.

Nobody has mentioned depreciation every year? That would cost loads if you buy a new car.

Could someone lock this topic I see where it is going from here.

On a related topic I am new to Melbourne and have an 2010 R35 GTR and was wondering if there were an specialised and respected alternatives to Nissan for servicing as my car is now out of warranty -Thanks

The E92 M3 will be cheaper to maintain / service I would think. Engine oil change intervals are 25,000km (I will change mine more frequently though). Although the oil isn't cheap, I just got my first oil change done on mine and the oil (10 liters of Castrol TWS Motorsport oil) was $43 a litre! It has been a relatively cheap car to maintain overall though. It does get very poor fuel economy though, I don't know how it can use so much!

    • Ps i found the below forum and it seems to be the same scenario Im dealing with. Going to check my ECU coolant temp wire tomorrow    From NICOclub forum: s1 RB25det flooding at start up Thu Apr 11, 2013 7:23 am I am completely lost on this. Car ran perfectly fine when I parked it at the end of the year. I took the engine out and painted the engine bay, and put a fuel cell with an inline walbro 255 instead of the in tank unit I had last year. After reinstalling everything, the engine floods when the fuel pump primes. if i pull the fuel pump fuse it'll start, and as soon as I put the fuse back in it starts running ridiculously rich. I checked the tps voltage, and its fine. Cleaned the maf as it had some dust from sitting on a shelf all winter, fuel pressure is correct while running, but wont fire until there is less than 5psi in the lines. The fuel lines are run correctly. I have found a few threads with the same problem but no actual explanation of what fixed it, the threads just ended. Any help would be appreciated. I found the problem though. There was a break in one of the ecu coolant temp sensor wires. Once it was repaired it fired right up with no problems. I would have never thought a non working coolant temp sensor would have caused such an issue.
    • Hi sorry late reply I didnt get a chance to take any pics (my mechanics on the other side of the city) but the plugs were fouled from being too rich. I noticed the MAF wasn't genuine, so I replaced it with a genuine green label unit. I also swapped in a different ignitor, but the issue remains. I've narrowed it down a bit now: - If I unplug and reconnect the fuel lines and install fresh spark plugs, the car starts right up and runs perfectly. Took it around the block with no issues - As soon as I shut it off and try to restart, it won't start again - Fuel pressure while cranking is steady around 40 psi, injectors have good spray, return line is clear, and the FPR vacuum is working. It just seems like it's getting flooded after the first start I unplugged coolant sensors to see if its related to ECU flooding but that didnt make a difference. Im thinking its related to this because this issue only started happening after fixing coolant leaks and replacing the bottom part of the stock manifolds coolant pipe. My mechanic took off the inlet to get to get to do these repairs. My mechanics actually just an old mate who's retired now so ill be taking it to a different mechanic who i know has exp with RBs to see if they find anything. If you have any ideas please send em lll give it a try. Ive tried other things like swapping the injectors, fuel rail, different fuel pressure regs, different ignitor, spark plugs, comp test and MAF but the same issue persists.
