hey S.au

obviously not as simple as low range and high

setup : 15inch sub running off seperate amp .. amp is set too Low Pass Filter

2x 6x9 and tweeters in seperate box in boot with seperate amp ... amp is set too high pass filter

4 fairly average pioneed speakers inside car

pioneer headunit has high pass filter option and sound retriever .. cant tell much difference with HPF on headunit but sound retreiver on option 2(bass) is clearer

What HERTS should sub be set on ?? 60Herts ?? low range ??

what about mid range and other settings ?? theres millions or HERTS SETTINGS LOL

reset battery so my settings are goneeeeskiiieeee f**k THE POPO!!

what is so wrong about it? slight overlap is fine, I doubt 6.5" car speaker have a flat response all the way down to 60Hz anyways, they're not home speakers.

to add, front speakers are infinite baffle, not even sealed or ported, so if my advise if "wrong" as you say, what would you recommend?

80hz is fine on sub

Disconnecting what sounds like pawn shop speakers in the rear is right Too dodgy sounding to know how its installed

4 average speakers in front at 60hz in infinite baffle will be the death of them

Infinite baffle is the worse control of the cone there is except a way out of tune box

Most front speakers cant play down to 60hz without excess cone excursion because of the above reason , good home speakers in a sealed box you could go low but even them 60 is too low unless your crossover is 24db rolloff even then its risky

120hz -200hz would be more like it depending on the rolloff, power applied , specs on speakers etc

120hz -150hz at 6db rolloff is fine for most quality 6.5 in if no bass boost is used on amp or deck and power is clean

But like i say 60 hz on 6.5 " is going to be a short life before voicecoil death

All of this is assuming active crossover not passive and active mixed together which throws in phase delay and a few other items

I did say 60hz to 80hz, I ran my Focals at 60hz to get good solid midbass at the front, I am still sure the voice coils are perfectly fine if I were to put a multimeter across them.

You prob did run your focals at 60 -80 on the amp and then ran them thru the passive crossover !!

Which filtered out the bass overriding the amp Electronic crossover at certain freq ranges

And creating a 18-24db crossover in the process

The natural rolloff is higher then 60hz in most all cases for 6.5 "MID "range

60hz is bass to subbass region not midrange freq

Focals arent magic they will die just like any other speaker , dont forget this guy has low range speakers and possibly thin mount coax as well recipe for burned coils

Without getting into advanced acoustic / electronic engineering and why you dont xover at 60hz on a 6.5 mid range any brand !! Even 6.5 WOOFERS can struggle at 60hz unless designed for free air application or custom box made for speaker resonance Q

The overlap with a 15 " would sound horrible

Lots of peaks and valley in response curve With big holes in sound

    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
    • Any going to watch World Time Attack at SMSP this year?
    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
