Its a 4202.... on 12 psi....... with a standard engine....... just cam and springs..... Through an auto....... in full street trim/Exhaust.

Made 695 on 17 psi and never had an issue...... ever....... The engine never died, never cracked a piston from this "timing drift" I hear so much about.

The 1JZ is also a stock engine. No cams, No springs. No Pistons, nothing.

Went 9.1@153 in a 3050 lbs car. Quickest 1JZ in the country and yes runs a wolf.

We also have track cars, street cars, targa cars, boats and even hovercrafts that run wolfs.

We dont have the dramas everyone else seems to plague these ECU's with.

But, we also have cars that run Mircotechs.... and start in the mornings... ans run 9's.... with stock engines.

We also tune Motec's that drive like dreams, Autronics that start and run and power the quickest single cam VL in QLD.

Haltechs, EMS, Link They all work in there own respect..... Some ECU's are better than others than some things....... but you use the correct ecu for the application.

If some one wants the best on board logging.... do you use a microtech or a wolf?

What about PWM control over wheel speed and TPS do you use a Haltech? Or direct fire ignition on a V8?

2 Step... over wheel speed would you use an EMS?

Budget...... Motec?

I think not. Every ECU has its place in the market. I hate to say it but its the tuners that wont take the time to work out where an ECU will work and when it wont that cause the most trouble to the end user.

End rant.

Yeah maybe one day you'll learn how to tune them and they won't seem so bad.

You made the wrong choice. The Autronic is still a better ECU

Anything can be tuned and we have no issues tuning them, i could sit here and post a million fast cars with any ecu on the market, microtech would kill wolf if that was the premise on choosing an ecu but its not...

There is no pissing contest, i don't have to defend any particular brand of ecu.... the car i bought is neither from you or involved with with your business.

We get asked all the time to sign up to particular brands but we prefer to use the best ecu for the job,to be objective this requires us not to be tied to any particular brand.... objectivity will always be the backbone of our business..... its what allows us to remain a tune only business.

As it is ours also but when an ECU does everything better than the rest, why not promote it? I do what I feel necessary to ensure the brand I like gets a proper plugging. We have cars using every different type of ECU. Some we have removed to replace with others that do a better job.

You are the one who mentioned having a piss on and burn party. I'm not sure why you are so scared of the V500/550. We get the absolute best results when using them

TBH looking from outside the dealer perspective i can yes v500 and v550 do do a good job, better than the rest? well beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

on a lighter note as shit got way to serious.. our new acquisition is a v4... so im sure we both agree its an anchor :P

Like status has said. Anything can be tuned. Hell we even to a carby turbo 308..... May as well be a bucket with a hole in it but it works and its fast. Bloody fast.

Its not The injector/coil control that I like about the wolf. Its the fact that when My customer says...... I would like to run boost over wheel speed. I can say yes no worries. But limit it when the engine is cold, yes no problem.... But I don't want to run more than 22 psi on transbrake.... yes not a drama. But I want my nos to turn on at full throttle, only when the the car is at 0 kph, only when its at 1 psi then turn off at 17 psi so I can leave off my transbrake at 22 psi with no gas. Yep easy as.

Or I want to switch my AC on, and make my pump turn on, then 1 second later my fan to turn on, but turn off over 80% throttle or under 600rpm.... or when my cabin temp is below my desired input temp.

Auto trans control, PWM line pressure over throttle position, Anything over anything with anything controlling it.......... Its only limitation is your imagination.

Show me an ECU that can do this under 2k, with no additional add ons, upgrades or unlocks.

Back on topic, yes Autronic SM4 is a great ECU. Just run there disk in your cas and have years of trouble free motoring and awesome injector control

E1280s from adaptronic.... but you have to deal with the software which personally sucks a little life everytime we do one :P

Honestly haven't had the pleasure yet.....

Ever had a scope on the coil charge time under snap throttle conditions?

haven't had the need to dig the scope out for awhile tbh.

sounds like you get alot of *special* customers... lol

try a vipec... its very flexible like that.

Totally agree its amazing that there are big branded ECU that havn't got the basics(fuel and timing) sorted and yes I've scoped alot of ECU's with various issues and it does keep them honest. I've tuned a few WOLF V500 and some have been ok - I had one that overheated and would cut injector output.

I still think as far as a engine control system goes the autronic is still years ahead of the rest. You can do all those things you said before but you can add actual PI control loops ontop - with PI loops that actually work. The other biggest seller for me with the autronic that no other aussie ECU's I've seen (motec, haltech, wolf etc) have is idle delta igniton timing.

You can do idle ignition timing with a few ECU's....... Autronic is by far the easiest to set up in that regard.

Others you need to do 4D and 5D outputs, but it still can be done.

They also have the best logging, bar none and are as reliable as anything. Individual cylinder control over load and RPM.

I rate them very highly as an ecu and tune many of them.

The new Wolf V550 has PI control on there outputs. I haven't had much of a play with them yet but im sure I will get the chance.

Haha, every customer is *special* in their own way. We try to cater for everyone in that regard but sometimes when you see someone who just says they want it to be a burnout car and nothing else, you can tell in the back of your mind they will never use it for that at the end of the day....it will end up being their daily driver instead and they will complain about the ECU 'they' selected. It's always better to have a little bit of overkill for those ones.

BTW are you still tuning over in the land of sand? How is/was it?

    • Greg speaks wisdom. These dirty old Datsuns are only value when they are cheap. When they are not cheap, there is no value. Sounds contradictory, but it's true. We are now 20 years past the hey day of modifying cheap 90s JDM cars for small amounts of money. This is a different world. If you are rich and can afford not to care about what is effectively wasting money on an old Datto shitter, then I have no reason to argue against it. But if you are wanting to experience what we all experienced back in 2005 (and I bought my car last century!) then there is no way to do it.
    • Short answer: No. Medium answer: No, because you still need to conjure the things out of thin air to bolt them to a NA to make it a NA+T. Long Answer: No - The things you need to conjure - meaning a turbo, intercooling, manifolds, exhaust, intake/manifold/piping, clutch, injectors, fuel pump, AFM (?), ECU + Wiring (woo, N/A loom fun) have to come from somewhere. You could have many scavenged these things from an OEM car that someone had upgraded from and use some of these. This will be cost prohibitive now, especially so in the USA. You'd probably pay the same for newer, upgraded components that are better than old OEM stuff from 25-30 years ago. None of these big ticket items are re-usable for the N/A car. Why not buy new and upgrade while you're there? The only real consideration is turbo and fuel sizing and determining whether you want to stay within the bounds of the OEM engine or get into rebuild territory. These limits ARE lower with a N/A motor and especially N/A gearbox at the starting point. And if you're gonna upgrade those then you may as well consider having them built to begin with. Because everyone here knows you're never far from that next engine rebuild once you start making the power you want... The cars you see on the internet and SAU etc have been built over decades. If you're really clued in... you would sell your US car to somebody for what you paid for it. You would then scour AU JDM pages or SAU and buy a car like Dose's on this forum with your powerful American Dollar. This will save you so much money in the long term. Importing it could be tricky. Or it might not because USA. I have long said the only reason 90's Japanese stuff took off was because a) Japanese people had Japanese cars so that is what they used b) Australians could import these cars to Australia with very minimal changes and use them on the road here c) Neither country had well-priced access to US or EU Sports Cars. I don't believe the JDM scene would have taken off in Australia at all if we had EU priced EU BMW M offerings, or more especially the AUS V8 Scene would never have existed if we had the multitude of US cars like Camaros, Mustangs, Corvettes at the prices you folks do. After all - Do the math. I would say put a V8 in your R34 and that's the smart way forward. It is. I did it. I know this from my own experience. But at that point there's no reason to simply not buy a C5 or C6? It would be simpler and easier and cheaper and bette-
    • Reading all this... hurts lol. I have an ENR34 5MT and I paid an inflated USA price for the car alone, had to do tons of preventative maintenance past that, and so I'm over $30K USD into the car already and haven't even touched power.  I wanted to +t it. Not even trying to make GTR numbers, I'd be happy with 250hp.  Can I get away with paying much less to make that happen?
    • Damn you’ve done well, definitely snapping necks.
