asps91
Hey guys, have been searching the forums to no avail for someone who has had similar problems that I am having with my r33 Gtr. First gear is really hard to engage, same with reverse. And a little notchy throught all of the gears. Mostly like this all the time, I think temperature has a bit to do with it as well as when cold, still notchy and hard to engage but not as bad as when it's hot. If I roll slowly (-5km/h) it pops into 1st no problems. Master cylinder is full, visually everything seems to be ok. No leaks that I can see out of the slave cylinder. Clutch started slipping a tiny bit in 3rd the other morning (gearbox still cool), could this all be tied in? Really confused and need to get this fixed quickly, its my daily at the moment. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks guys. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/399301-gearbox-problem-hard-to-get-into-gear/ Share on other sites
Moodles2
When is the last time it's had a fluid change? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/399301-gearbox-problem-hard-to-get-into-gear/#findComment-6342227 Share on other sites
asps91
No clue, I purchased the car a few months ago. Reason I haven't changed it is that I am doing the 100k service next month so I was going to get it all taken care of in 1 hit. This happened all of a sudden though, so I'm guessing it's not that. It was smooth a few days ago and now it's a bitch to drive. Hadouken
Have you been flat shifting or abusing the box? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/399301-gearbox-problem-hard-to-get-into-gear/#findComment-6342470 Share on other sites
asps91
Nope, honestly. Only 1 launch since I've owned it (wasn't even a hard launch).... Hadouken
Hmmm. Maybe give the oil a change and see what it feels like then. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/399301-gearbox-problem-hard-to-get-into-gear/#findComment-6342559 Share on other sites
asps91
Yea... I'll give it a go this weekend and see how it feels. I'll bleed the clutch system and see if that does anything as well. tricstar
Clutches don't slip if in good condition and nothing wrong, shouldn't matter if its cold or not ( unless its a full carbon, but thats another story ) Load it up in 4th and see if it slips again, could answer your question. also change fluid ( make sure you use the right weight oil ) Car is 15+ years old, could just be normal wear on box.. Birds
Unless you've had a recent fluid change, gears don't all of a sudden start getting notchy. Therefore unlikely to also be a gearbox oil issue, at least, that doesn't sound like the root of the problem. The fact it's happening in all gears and happened all of a sudden sounds like it could be clutch related. Specifically, hydraulics...which change with cold/hot temperatures. Get under the car while someone pumps the clutch pedal and check that there is enough travel in your clutch fork. If it's lacking, bleed the system and check for leaks - could have a worn master or slave cylinder. If there is plenty of travel in the clutch fork, then you may have a worn pressure plate or your spigot bearing is grabbing the input shaft and turning the gearbox even after you press the clutch pedal.
