This is such a fked topic!! i cant believe the scum that do this to others. we arent thugs or crims with excess money to buy grey imports cause we want subz chicks and we constantly run drugs, we are enthusiasts that belong to a club, group that appreciate simmilar vehicles.

AND these are the ones that are going, the clean, crisp, well kept JDM examples, take for instance Sir RB and my gtr's, gun metal kept in immaculate condition.

The next one (import whether Gtr supra RX7 whatever) i get is going to have the following.

-steering wheel which i can remove, removable boss kit.

-fancy alarm with all the goodies and the trackable stuff

-fuel cut imobiliser whatever linked in to alarm system

-car cover and locked up, if i drive it anywhere i will park it in an underground monitored carpark, dont even care about paying extra or inconvenience.

im fking sick of this, you cannot have a nice car these days.

im also buying a rotweiler or staffi to guard the bloody thing also. and seriously will consider my movements, obviously they track and look out for these cars to learn patterns etc etc so when they can they pinch them, going to use the motorbike as my daily and car every other time or weekend.

its totally bullshit, and mine was from a good area! insurance is better for me living there! CRAP.

haha well said. but with all the goodies it only still takes 2 seconds to get towed :<

Cant do much... Pray to god it never happens... i wanted to cry for sir rb, to much effort then its snatched from in a heartbeat :@

When I was in my 20s, what with the presence of XY HO, GTR XU1, Lotus Europa or better still Elan, Alfetta GTV which were the envy of all to own; one would say, "I'm going to save up for one of those".

Nowadays Marcus, it's as high as 5% of the masses saying (whilst no-one were watching), "Which one am I going to take?"

And my friends/family think im being over cautious/stupid because i really dont like leaving my car unattended in public...

I think im being the right amount of cautious really!

Definately need to be cautious mate, nothing wrong with that.

Its pretty sad when you hear some of the stories and extents that people go through to take a car.

Ive heard of a car getting stolen despite being parked in the garage with another car parked infront of it. If they really want to take it they will stop at nothing until they do so

^ ^ ^ ain't that the truth...

My son Mark had sold his VL Brock Group A to another Blue Mtns resident - on an acre set back from the road.

6 months later the thieves broke open a locked cabinet inside a secured garage, to obtain the ignition leads for the HDT car > never seen since.

My same son had his 1st car an R31 Skyline GXE stolen whilst training inside the Dojo.

The 2nd car of his that was stolen was a 25th Anniv VP Maloo

The 3rd car of his that was stolen was a Suzuki Swift GTi > set off red flags with the insurance company > investigation came out clear > paid out 6 weeks later

The worst part of an insurance 'fraud' investigation is that you're presumed guilty and have to prove your innocence.

Like Mark went to the Movies with someone, and the investigator wanted to know when the picture started and when it finished, since the GTi was stolen from the carpark. He also wanted to know what movie he saw and what the story was about.

Then the investigator checked the cinema operator about the start/finish time and then came back and implied that Mark had left early.

We asked how early.

He said about 5 minutes early.

We said, "You mean you expect Mark to sit through the credits? Wtf!"

He backed down; but he thought he could bait Mark for a while.

I have a feeling that these cars stolen in less then a week since purchase, that someone inside those dealerships were the cars were purchased has 2nd keys to the car.

This story sounds a bit like that guy MR-WRX Brian El-Hassan who used to own MC Racing in NSW and turned out they were just a stolen car crime syndicate and who used to brag about driving his STI with $10,000 gold plated rims. This was about 6 years ago that he got arrested but it still shows that there is still a large scene for stolen imports and Japanese high performance cars.

Thats fricken rediculous.

My Gf use to work in in insurance and was telling me about some of the loop holes etc that they try and put you through.

When you think about it in real world scenarios, if your friend baited you in to a situation its sick.

Mate i cant believe all the problems your son has had!! what an issue and a headache! i would have just lost the plot.

seriously becoming a problem!

So now added to the "i drive an import" i must be a hoon quick where are the police i need to be bent over my car and A** raped for pod filters etc i have to now look at storing my car, anti thefting (preventative measurements), watching my patterns of how i drive where i drive and which ways i come home etc, leaving the car in certain areas etc etc and watching for ppl checking out my car etc.

it is F**ked up. totally going to become a paranoid freak with my car now. i suppose thats a good thing, i just thought i was reasonably safe, i mean you hear of cars getting pinched etc and presume it will never happen to you and then it does and u feel violated and sick.

I was compeltely shocked when Mike SIR RB told me how his went.

i mean its almost at the point where taking the wheels off and bricking your car is a safety feature. come the fk on.

Just been reading this and yes its just totally fked man, do u guys have GPS trackers on ur cars?? I think Im goin to get one pretty soon. What about removable steering wheels, do u remove the steering and take it with u, man thats a big lol!

some of the grief we cop from insurance companies is because of the few scumbags out who there who have no problem with commiting fraud when it comes to car theft. . . . . . .years ago a mate of mine sprung a towie reversing up to his F100 (late at night)with the intention of hooking it up and taking it away, he soon got out of there when confronted!

Honestly with skylines they get stolen often because they hold very high chop value.

Have a think about all the stuff you've done to your car, then add up the value of all these parts a pretty normalish street GT-R could probably be wrecked for 10 - 15k easily, and they are not hard to steal.

Just ask Chris Rogers to show you how easy it is to get into one(I'm glad he is in the car security business and not the other way around!), one of the reasons I will be getting a good security system as soon as my build is finished.

Best advice, make your car as hard to steal as possible. that is the deterrent. proper car thieves can steal a car without making a sound.

I had a mate who lost a very expensive 180SX this way while he slept not 3 meters from it.

Don't even bother with alarms or immobolisers, they are very easy to bypass..

The best thing you can do is get kill switches and hide them in strategic locations in your car, that will ensure your car wont get stolen with thieves on foot and your only vulnerability will be getting your car towed on a truck.

If you park your car on the street, buy 2 very cheap cars to box your import in which means the tow truck will have to tow one of the other cars first before it can get to yours

OR

buy a heavy duty wheel lock.....and combine that with kill switches....and the box in strategy.

But yeah, having kill switches are the most stealthy.

^^^are you allowed out of the wasteland benjamin?

i genuinely lol'd at the cheap box cars idea though.

i'm amazed at the lack of respect/acknowledgement for the concept of ownership these days.

i know people in West Melbourne who live in a pretty steep hill-ish suburb. Their car got broken into (but not stolen) by some kids, who just let off the handbrake and pushed it down the hill. i mean, what the f*cks the point.

i think a quick release boss kit is probably the best thing to stop people actually driving away with your car. just take the steering wheel into work with you.

there isnt much you can do (in practicality terms) to stop your car getting towed. i remember here on SAU a while ago, someone 34R was taken from a shopping centre car park, broad daylight on the back of an unmarked tow truck.

    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
    • BTW I measured the jack I have, it is 70mm at the saddle but you only have about 700 until it returns to 150mm high at the cylinder so it is good but no magic bullet.
    • My experience with Rising Sun Exports Before agreeing to the sale I tried to do as much research as I could (obviously), his Facebook reviews are 98% and he goes Live at least once or twice a week. I contacted 2 people in the UK who had used him for their imports, both had positive feedback. His explanation and talk through of the import process was thorough, answering any query no matter how stupid it was. It felt as soon as the money was sent, communication dropped off. I asked for shipping updates every 2 weeks or so, not wanting to pester him, he never had any updates. I wasn't informed the car had been dropped off at the port, I only found out by his Facebook story. I asked for the photos taken at the port, knowing he would need some for insurance purposes. I received a few 5 second clips and that's it. When asked again, he said his staff had them. Weeks later I asked again, he tells me he doesn't have any, but does have 50 photos from the original advert. I never received them. I eventually got the documents sent via WhatsApp after I mentioned the port was requesting them. I purchased a CarVX report, to find out the vehicle is a Grade R with recorded accident damage, first recorded in 2017 when it was first auctioned. He never told me the grade, then again I didn't ask. His response was "Grade R means nothing, it wasn't chassis damage". Still, I would have liked to have been informed about it. Jon prides himself on being open and honest when it comes to inspecting cars, it's his main job doing so at the auctions for customers. When the vehicle arrived in the UK I noticed a few little cosmetic issues. It's a 21 year old car so it wasn't going to be mint condition. The side skirts are cracked on each corner and the sealant is failing. The front grill on the bonnet/hood isn't secured very well, mounting studs are missing. Both minor things, but again, it would have been nice to be told. During a Facebook Live walk around video of the vehicle, he mentioned it has a front Whiteline anti roll bar/sway bar. While on the inspection ramp, I noticed the stock item has been installed. When first questioned, his response was "the ARB? Switched? Since when, it never had them". Since sending video and photo evidence I've not received a response. I'm probably being over critical of the overall condition of an old car, but all I wanted was honesty (which he claims to have). I'm aware I wasn't his only customer, he's busy doing XYZ but other reviews praise him for great communication with regular updates and photos, I felt I didn't receive the same treatment.
    • I was able to get some underside photos while the car was on the ramp The suspension is all Altezza/IS200/IS300 so getting part's will hopefully be less of a headache
    • Welcome to my 2004 Toyota Mark ii IR-V Fortuna (series 2) With a 1JZ-GTE powerplant under the bonnet (hood) it'll give me plenty of scope for power upgrades. For those who aren't familiar with imports, the 1JZ-GTE is a 2.5L 6 cylinder VVTi engine with a single turbocharger. This has the factory R154 5 speed gearbox, along with a aftermarket 2 way LSD differential (brand unknown). Under the arches are a set of CST Zero 1 alloys, 18x9 +30 225/40 up front and 18x9.5 +15 265/35 on the rear. The car was quite low in Japan and there's evidence of the wheels catching the rolled arches/fenders. The tyre's aren't great so I'm in two minds whether to replace both or just the tyres and put up with the wider wheels on the rear. The car still uses stock brakes with the addition of some braided hoses. The exterior is stock with the exception of a BN Sports front bumper and a replacement Fortuna grill  Moving to the interior, the steering wheel has been replaced with a dished MOMO steering wheel (which will get swapped for my Momo Tuner for the time being) Defi Link Gauges are mounted above the climate controls and on the A pillar, the Oil Temp,Oil Pressure,Water Temp and Boost gauges should help with spirited and track driving  The stock seats have been replaced with some retrimmed Recaro bucket seats. Being a larger build these are a little snug, unfortunately the orange isn't for me so I'll look into replacing these down the line. Other modifications include a twin plate clutch, Blitz intercooler, Evolve alloy radiator, a stainless exhaust with decat, HKS EVC-S boost controller and coil overs
