g'day all

just made a recent purchase of an FMIC and its time for the piping to be done.

i have fitted (or will be) the cooler and cut the front bar so it all fits but my plan of running the outlet from the cooler back behind the cooler and into the stock return pipes is not going to work. I think i'm going to cut a hole in the metal under the battery facing the alternator (not the chassis!) and run the outlet pipe in front on the cam gears and into the stock return piping.

bad idea? good idea? it seems this is what most have done. Will paint black for 'stealth' look :) .

next question is about getting piping made. I have done a search and come up with the following places:

- ICE performance

- VMS in west footscray

- Dande exhausts

i'm thinking i won't pay more than $400 for just the pipes to be made (no fitting or anything as i'm handy with a spanner or two and won't pay others to do what i can do). will this be a good budget? i don't care if its just mild steel as it will be painted...

or is there someone on here that can do this for me? c'mon there has to be a bloke here that works in an exhaust shop and can do mandrel bends??

ideas welcomed on anything related...

hoping to get this done at the end of the week...

they did my dump pipe and i recommend them cos they do a good job at a very good price

warren my friend went to trufit with same cooler and they quoted him 350 for his rex

rex needs a lot more bends than skyline i would think

so for the r32 it would cost less

but the thing is they don't want anything to do with cutting front bar and fitting

they jus put the piping around it

but then they are a bit far from ur place

but you can give them a try dude

Ice use trufit for some of their cooler/exhaust work and they did some of the ext gate work on my car and they did a very good job.

My tip is not to go to Ice performance.

Why is that?

I'll go out on a limb and say they are one of the most trustworthy places in Vic to take a car.

Real adivce with no :bs!:

They wont sell you something that isnt suited to your application unlike other workshops

hmmm

ICE quoted me about 450-500 for stainless

am still a little dissappointed as i'm not after a show-quality piece of work, just a way to connmect and use the bloody thing!

anyone got any ideas for doing this myself? purchase some mandrel bends and connect them with straight rubber hoses?

will it be really bad if i use press-bends?

my intercooler outlet is 70mm so i was thinking i could get 80mm stainless pipe press-bent into shape by my local exhaust shop so the overall diameter is never less than 70mm anyways... i know flow won't be the best but once the air passes through the throttle body and into the intake plenum it will smooth out anyway i would think...

any more ideas will be great...

hey waz, i got quoted around 200 for mine.

i decided to chop and change the way i wanted the piping to run, so i ended up paying clsoe to 250 for mine. got the lot made up in mild steel and was only quoted a little bit more for stainless. i've just managed to get my hands on some wrapping for the pipes, so bling pipes wasn't what i wanted.

exactly as you stated, students on budget... you a biomed grad yet? 3rd year is hardcore, howd u manage to do it? gimmie some help man! hehehe...

    • Ahhh, I need the whole head unit. I definitely needed to roll back through and review your setup, ha ha! Neat setup they have going on. I just need a full double din head unit. But I want good and responsive. I might have to review what the likes of pioneer have out these days.
    • Ok so after much research and talking with knowledgeable people I've got my turbo conversion done and it's all running great other than 1 small issue.  Car has remained auto with the na auto and tcm, I've used a stagea ecu with. NIstune board and everything is great other than my gear selection on the dash. It illuminates park, reverse, neutral, 3rd and 2nd. But nothing drive or what gear your in when you pop it into tiptronic.  I'm sure there is may e 1 wire in the ecu plug I need to move to rectify this. Dose anyone here have any ideas?   Cheers guys
    • Sorry I haven't been following all the detail, so you may have tried this. Does it idle with the tiniest bit of throttle you can add? You've mentioned the IACV, does it have an AAC valve and have you adjusted it at all (ie, screw the idle adjust screw all the way in, then back it out a couple of turns until idle is stable)?
    • My bad, I unplugged the one underlined in red instead of yellow before. With the car started, after unplugging the IACV (the one underlined in yellow), it idled at around 400/500 for 3 seconds before stalling. Attempting to start the car without the IACV will not start the car.   It does stutter and sputter for around 5 seconds before dying. However, immediately after starting it, you can already hear some slight sputters from the exhaust.   It won't start with the AFM unplugged. If it is when the car has already started, it stalls in a few seconds.   Yesterday, I did take some logs using Nistune of 3 scenarios. Car idling till it stalls Car idling and unplugging the IACV Car idling and removing the AFM I also have some previous logs of when the Car is idling till it stalls and when driving and it cuts. I am not really knowledgeable enough to understand what to look for. After every test, car idles rougher and rougher, until I have to stop. It will be fine the day after.
    • There is no difference between a 17x8 and an 18x8. The total diameter of the tyre needs to remain +/- the same (so you don't mess up the gearing, speedo reading, and clearance when turning front wheels..... so you just need to use a lower profile tyre on th 18 than you do on the 17. /rocket surgery.
