Hi All,

Just thought I'd see if anybody could help me with research on one part of my 8,000 word report for uni... :(

I'm absolutely stumped in finding the right article or book for this part of the assessment. I have to do a Literature review on an article, book, journal, case study etc from a credible source.

In the literature review I have to, (Describe racing cars you find in the literature, include key features of the design of a racing car. Describe sizes, materials used, optimum speed, specifications of cars available on the market. Aesthetic requirements of the car and any other details you find in your literature review).

One thing which is off limits is, Formula 1, becuase every second student I speak to is just copying and pasting from their website.

I was hoping to find an article/book/journal which would have in depth design details and specs on the z-tune or any other nissan based race car. If that is too difficult, then any car will suffice as long as it's not formula 1 and is a race car.

If anyone can link me articles, journals and such that would be good for the above, that would be GREATLY appreciated as I'm really struggling.

Cheers in advance

Bill

Hi mate,

I think you would be hard pressed to find a book like that about a modern Nissan race car. Generally teams are very cagey about the exact specs, and secrets about what's involved. Plus, chances are its in Japanese.

So thinking outside the box, why don't you go for something like NASCAR? There has got to be shitloads written about it. it's going to be in English, and you could FedEx it and be here in 5 days.

Make a detailed analysis of how the cars are set up to run oval- different tyres, suspension geom etc. restriction plates etc.

Cheers guys,

That is the exact problem I presented to the lecturer, He didn't respond however.... Detailed analysis on what, why, how things are done to modern (competing) race cars are very secretive, which almost means half this assignment HAS to be bullshitted. He seems like he's happy to accept bullshit :-ss ??

Both very good options that I didn't really consider though. I'll have a look into NASCAR, hopefully I don't get the same issues like other modern forms of racing. Group B could also work well, as I have used a bit of info from the 1960's Lotus Formula one team as reference points.

Thanks

Bill

    • I couldn't wait But, the black constant tension hose clamps were too thick and there wasn't enough clearance at the T/B and I couldn't get it to seat properly, so I had use a silver one there I also added some 3" silicone over the alloy bit that goes through to hole on the radiator support as it looked like it was sitting on the edge of the hole in the radiator support, I never noticed a rattle or anything, but there was a witness mark It is basicly done, and I can live with the silver hose clamp at the T/B, I will get a black clamp for the head vent though where it is attached to the bulkhead fitting  It never stops...LOL, only issue now with the shock tower brace is it slightly touches the under bonnet liner now, if I leave it it will either wear some paint off the brace where it touches, or damage the liner, so I removed the liner to see what I have to work with, with the liner removed I have about 20mm of clearance, but sadly the middle part of the underside of the bonnet is only dusted with paint and looks crap, so I cannot have that, but.... as I have a roll of Carbuilders premium under bonnet insulation in the garage laying around that is only 5.5mm thick (we were going to use it on the boys Patrol, but he crashed the front of it a few months and it was written off, hence why he now drives my old Honda Accord Euro), I'll use the OEM liner as a template and get the Carbuilders stuff fitted up to cover that dusted paint up
    • You have a knack for photography my friend. It makes the 86 look like a complete bucket. The 34 went with you to Europe and back. It's special. (we all feel the same about our 'shitboxes' that every bystander seems to absolutely love)
    • It's been quite the ordeal but hey, at least you figured it out.
    • The final part arrived today to un-clampify and simplify the intake Who would have though a 1/2" hose stainless bulkhead fitting designed for below waterline bilge pumps would be what I needed Test fit on a 3" offcut I had laying around to see if it would work, and it worked a treat All going well the intake will be on its "final version" tomorrow
