Hi guys and girls this is my 1st post in the brake and suspension topics so i will apologise in advance for any 'noob' questions :blush: anyways after driving the old mans R33 V spec with DBA 4000's,HEL braided lines and i think Remsa pads(GSL recommended them) my standard sumitumo clamps with RDA ugroove rotors,HEL lines and EBC red stuff pads dont feel near as bitey as the brembos on the Gtr.

Now this is where my dilema begins........... Now i havent set a budget in stone yet but im thinking maybe around $2500 - $3000 zone.

After shopping around online only found 1 full set of brembos off a 33 with rotors for $1800 which i think is a bit rich.

Ive looked at the K sport kits as well and the 356mm kit is $2300 but im kinda weary of putting 'cheap' stuff on my car that may be unreliable (brandwhore) obviously unless anybody can confirm otherwise from 1 of these kits? :ninja: But thats just for the fronts alone.

The 3rd option im contemplating is picking up a full set of wilwood calipers 6 piston fronts and 4 piston rears which on Ebay i can get for maybe $1500 but then id obviously need to fabricate my own brackets up to adapt the wilwoods to my mounts and correct the brake bias yeah?

So in saying that is correcting the brake bias as simple as putting a proportional valve in?

Please correct me if this isnt possible but im thinking this would be my shopping list? V spec front rotors 6 piston wilwood calipers on the front using my standard rear rotors with wilwood 4 piston calipers on the back,good quality pads,custom braided lines,motul fluids and a proportional valve do-able for around $2500 and my time in making brackets and install???

Id like to hear some peoples opinions on some of the brake kits they have used and what their opinion is of what i propose to do and possibly any recommendations for my shopping list :yes: obviously the aim of this exercise is to get the best stopping power for the least amount of money. Id also really appreciate some name drops on who sells this stuff at competitive prices! :thanks:

Ksport/D2 kits are perfectly fine.

Plenty of cars using them @ WTAC last year, and again this year. They are tried and tested, I have them myself and cannot fault them for the price.

Been trying to get a GB organised for a while (will be well under 2k), just having trouble getting suppliers to play ball, at a decent enough price to make it worthwhile for everyone.

Oh ok thats good keep me posted if a group buy kicks off Ash im keen if we can get them for the right price :worship:

I am in the same boat. Done heaps of research on the web and asking friends who do club sprints. I've only had personal experience with a few different pads myself - currently run Ultimates.

My thoughts are if it is mostly street driven:

First do the best you can with your current rotors and calipers

1 - buy a brake cylinder stopper (make a huge difference to control/feel)

2 - bleed brakes well

3- Get decent pads for the street (Ultimates are prob the best pure street pad but will only stand a mild track day)

After this you have to make some decisions about street vs track use.

Choose:

A Use a street/track pad (A1RM, or similar) all the time and put up with reduced rotor wear (<40,000km for a rotor set), some noise and have some mild issues with cold friction feel (possibly very noisy).

B Buy a 2nd set of pads for track use that aren't super aggressive (P-Mµ HC+, HT-10, DS2500) and swap then at home before you head out and then swap them back after you get home >> these pads are all expensive or noisy.

C. Buy a larger brake rotor that allows you to keep using fast street pads (and or the swap combo with lower end race pads as above). The 324mm upgrade kit might work OK with Landcruiser DB1199 Ulimates or some such.

D. Go all out and get a specific kit as below.

Buy a kit from USA. Any kit that COMES WITH CALIPERS from Silvia, 240sx, 300zx should fit fine (same 12mm hole, spacing and offset - it is the stock caliper legs that differ). Seek on the internet and you will find plenty for ~$2k plus shipping. But you won't find fark all for R33 GTST, you need to seek under 240sx and 300zx if buying from the states.

K-sport, Stoptech, Wilwood, etc. If you're not upgrading the front you will prob make do with 13" (330mm) or less and these will likely fit under 17" rims. Pads are up to you.

With the larger rotor upgrade you can probably get away with fast street pads, rather than needing to stretch up to compromise pads (DS2500, A1RM, HP+) which will wear you rotors in <40,000km with street driving.

Consider the replacement cost of pads and rotors when buying full kits (Wilwood, Stoptech, etc).

I'm going to get a DB power brake kit for the 33gtst, wilwood superlight 4 spots with brackets to fit, 345mm Brembo rotors (just 1 piece). Running a MS stopper, HEL lines rebuilt oem calipers in thd rear, rda discs and QFM pads as I have always run, prob Comp 9's front Comp 2's rear with good ducting to the front. NACA ducts in the front bar with 3" donkey dick running back to the rotors. Endless fluid or similar. What I'm running is actually fairly effective but this should be just a bit better. Just running oem size rotors ATM with QFM ar1m pads. Can get the wilwood kit for 1200 or so landed and the rest is basic. And replacement rotors/pads won't send me broke

DS2500 are fine for the street. Been using them for 8 months and they are not noisy at all.

Yeah you won't get 40,000kms out of a set of rotors - but I'd rather get 10,000kms and know it'll stop when i ask it on street or circuit.

DS3000 are circuit only, you never get them up to temp for street duties.

Where were you getting the Wilwood kit for $1200 landed?

And how do they compare against the D2's/Ksport's etc.?

    • Oh, also, forgot to add these photos I believe.
    • Thought i'd update on this. I was able to get in contact with Craig Lieberman and later on Darryl Alison (owner of Kaizo Industries). Darryl was able to help me verify that my car was in fact one of theirs and is helping me find more info on mine !
    • There's restrictor pills in the stock boost control hoses. That's how they set the amount that was bled off and hence the "high" boost setting. The usual mod in the day was to remove it and send the "high" boost setting up to about 14 psi.
    • Thanks Duncan, that's the best info I've read. Furthermore after learning about the PCM programming side controlling the factory boost solenoid, the purpose of the solenoid is to "bleed" boost when pin 25 is earthed, thus allowing spring pressure in the wastegate actuator to overcome diaphragm boost pressure, thus closing or reducing the position of the wastegate flap creating more boost as the turbo is able to spin faster. It's pretty cool to see a designated Pill to do exactly this, would have liked to have seen it with a tiny filter over the end for those moments in vacuum.  The constant bleed pill has now been removed completely from the system and solenoid boost control has been restored once again.   Case closed 😂
    • The wideband reading is meaningless if it's not running. Why are you using shitty old sidefeeds on any engine, let alone a Neo? What manifold and fuel rail are you using to achieve that? Beyond that, can't help you with AEM stuff as I've never been their ECU/CAS combo.
