I think he's talking about the inlet manifold runner design... I didn't realize they were that different until I saw these either.

Bingo, I meant the upper part of the lower manifold

I'd imagine they'd be close

Anyone know why the plazman is so expensive when all you are getting is half a manifold?

Made in Australia.

Like most things made in aus, they are twice the price they should be, but awesome quality

That's not an acceptable answer. Here in Australia, we get shafted for parts.

When I buy new, I order from the US and save a bucket load. For example, just placed an order with FRSport.com as they were nearly one third cheaper than my favourite Australian source (Kudos Motorsports) and even got a further saving due to the strong $AUD.

Ordered a water pump, crank pulley and timing belt amongst other things but these stand out since these items alone gave me a saving of $450.

Price gouging for performance parts needs to stop. I also praise GKTech as Greg has listened and taken it upon himself to provide a cheaper option while still maintaining quality.

Just because you designed and tool all your own stuff, doesn't mean you can be greedy and charge through the roof for a 'quality product'.

So I have to pay a premium because it's made in Australia? Yes, that makes sense. Since we're a developed country and have a governed minimum wage, the owner just invoices out his time @ $XXX (qualified, self-employed with overheads) an hour to cover his time and tax obligations. I get it now...

You're right in it being a 'one of' part, isn't available anywhere else (until it got ripped off) but it's still an overpriced cheque-book racers wet dream.

Some of gktech's stuff is made in australia

If you don't like the price, don't buy one. Personally I'm perfectly happy with how much I paid.

Keep in mind, parts for our cars are a niche market here. There isn't enough money in the industry to setup a parts manufacturing business and give away high quality parts cheaply. Supply and demand.

Yes but they are still relatively new on the market,

Take aftermarket v8 heads been around for 30 odd years, but are only now becoming affordable for joe average

If you want show car quality..what if I just want a manifold that works..its just a few bits of metal welded together, how hard can it be?.. A 6 boost manifold is about the same price and there is a shitload more work goes into making one of them, hell my ecu wasnt much dearer..Im sorry bit the main reason your friends rag on about quality is to justify the ridiculous amount of money they spent on something simple..I love plazmaman plenums but no way I can justify their expense..

Go get one for 400 then, just don't complain when the welds are full of holes and it aint seeled properly ..... btw I got my rb20 plazmaman for 650 brand new off the website and the quality is insane

    • Wife wanted basket things in the wardrobe in our temporary house. Thought about ripping our the wardrobe and fitting the entire IKEA set, but it's a temporary house and we want to move in a few years. So IKEA advertises this as a 50cm unit, however the actually basket and rails measure 46cm wide. Only issue was depth, IKEA stuff is quite deep, where as the builder special junk is super shallow at less than 40cm. Send it, chopped the rails, then offset the mounting holes, job done, happy wife, less shit scattered all over the bedroom. Did the same to the other side too. Also drove the Skyline shit box today, dropped off oil at Supercheap Auto. I didn't realise they only now take max 2x bottles per visit. I visited 2x Supercheap Autos.
    • I've seen similar actually in my situation. You never know what tables are attempted to be used when the car thinks it's -99C or +200C. The fail state is not usually that extreme but you know what I mean - it was in my case though! This is where being able to read all the sensors is useful cause you see this stuff really quickly.
    • The above is very important. However as long as you keep timing relatively low, it's plausible to make your own knock ears and plausible to learn to tune with a modern ECU that can do wideband O2 correction like a boost controller. I mean if you only have one viable road to even drive the car on, learning to tinker to this level may be worth doing given you can't do much else with the car...?
    • I find the fact that the rear plate has to be bent inwards at the rear not so bad: but the front is just awful: It's like come on. (these are my very old, now retired/turned in plates) TBH it is a lot of money to fix a minor issue, the fact I said "I'll never really spend the money on doing this" is why people ended up buying them as a gift for a 'car guy' who can be hard to shop for.. for car guy things.
    • I just bent the ends of my premo plates. It even went through Regency like that after the engine conversion and the inspector (a great bloke!) just squinted his eyes and said "I didn't see that". Plates, and how they look, are just something that have zero importance to me.
